Disable a host alert, still getting text messages

We had a host drop offline due to a bad power supply and started getting text alerts. We new it would be a few hours until we could mess with it, so we disabled alerting using the enable/disbale feature for all tests. The host shows up blue, but we are still getting text pages for the conn test on this host. Is this a bug or known issue?

If you are using linux, netstat -a will list all network connections. Hi, I have made some interesting (to me anyway) changes to the hobbit code at the site I am currently contracting to. They had no monitoring system at all when I started working here so installing and integrating hobbit has been an interesting exercise. These are after applying the allinone patch: 1. email acknowledgement details to the user that acknowledges an alert (allows you to the forward to heldesk or other). 2. a working but not thoroughly tested change that propogates the ticks from acknowledgements upwards so that you see ticks at the top level if everything below has been acknowledged. 3. an additional column on the hobbit screen that lists an icon next to the server name that is a link to rdp://servername or ssh://servername so that you can click next to the server name and fire up a terminal session directly to that server. 4. a php and perl script that creates an excel file returned to the user through the web browser outlining outages etc for a given period 5. a module for monitoring the status of EMC/Legato Networker Backup systems (including mulitple Backup servers with many clients). 6. a small javascript web page that displays two frames in your browser, the top one shows a summary of alerts by color and the bottom frame swaps between the front hobbit screen and the non green view on a 10 second cycle. 7. Additionally, I found it hard to keep the config file up to date with a large number of IT staff making changes to servers and adding new servers constantly. In order to make this easier, I created a database and an application in front of this to handle adds and changes in a way that allows for verification and approval of server data. This data is then pulled automatically via a perl script that is run periodically to update the entire hobbit bb-hosts configuration. This includes the ability to auto generate pages by system owner, by location, by priority. There is also the capability to determine additional pages that a server should appear on such as by Service. The database contains details such as Contract No, install date model number, owner, support group etc which are displayed in a table on the info page of hobbit so that anyone can bring up a server and find details on it directly from within hobbit. Unfortunately, I was forced to write the application in MS Access with an Access Front End and a seperate Access Database. I would have preferred MySQL and PHP, but they are paying the bills so they get to determine the method. I would like to gauge interest in these changes/additions and see if anyone is interested in helping me get the code above into the main stream. In addition I would like to write a PHP / MySql version of the DB but would need some help given my time and financial constraints. Dual Hobbit servers and acknowledgements.

Hi, I have two hobbit servers that each recieve updates from all our client machines. This is working fine with two entries in the client configuration file. What I am struggling with however, is how do I get acknowledgements submitted on one server to also show up on the other server. (Is this possible with the current code?) mangled and/or assumed data in rrds with 4.3.0-0.20080327 snapshot

I think I'm seeing some rrd bugs in our Hobbit snapshot, v4.3.0-0.20080327, or something in our config is really out of whack. 1. When a new host is added to bb-hosts, the first data that goes into the rrd for the conn test is mangled and wildly inaccurate. The trend charts have an Y axis with a scale like 10 ?, 20 ?, etc., and the rrd file is filled to the 576th day with data, most of which looks like this:  <row><v> 8.5485381823e-72 </v></row> 2. When a host goes offline and stops reporting, sometimes the rrds associated with the disk trend charts simply fill in the missing data with 0s instead of NaN. Any ideas? I didn't find anything useful in the rrd-status.log. Thanks, Tom

Background color

Is it possible to have the background color on EVERY page be the color of the worst issue? That is, if any service is yellow, shouldn't all pages have a yellow background so that no matter what system or service you are looking at you know that something is yellow somewhere. (same goes for purple or red) I thought I read with the all-in-one patch that the background color now mimics the way Big Brother worked. Perhaps I misread. Is this a switch I missed somewhere? Mailing list problems - hopefully resolved now

my server hosting the Hobbit mailing list had developed a disk/filesystem problem affecting the list of subscribers to the mailing list. This held up processing of mails sent to the list, which is why you haven't received any mails from the list the past couple of days. It should be fixed now, although I had to re-create the subscriber list from the log of subscribe/unsubscribe events over the past 3 years. I believe I got that right, but if You find yourself suddenly getting mails from the list after you have unsubscribed, please accept my apologies in advance - and unsubscribe either by mailing me, or by mailing the automatic list manager at hobbit-unsubscribe at hswn.dk Regards, Henrik

Hi Henrik Sorry to ask this directly, hopefully you can help me. I have asked this of the group a couple of times but have not had a suitable answer back. I am trying to use the output received from hobbitd when issuing the bb ghostlist command. The command reports correctly, but after modifying the bb-hosts file, ghostlist continues to report ghosts. I need to do a full restart of hobbit to get hobbitd reporting correctly. I started digging through the source tonight but I have to admit that I just can't understand C well enough. hobbitd knows the bb-hosts file has been updated because the host appears on the webpage, but ghostlist still reports it incorrectly.
