Hi, I have changed the name on my server hosting Xymon server, a Ubuntu 16.04. But Xymon server do seem to still use the old hostname: The old name was "mail1": - I get ghost report: "127.0.0.1 mail1 mail 0:38", I have shutdown Xymon client, to isolate that it is coming from the Xymon server. - the link in alert mails is "http://mail1/xymon-cgi...." - A "ps" is showing: "sh -c vmstat 300 2 1>/home/xymon/client/tmp/xymon_vmstat.mail1.7997 2>&1; mv /home/xymon/client/tmp/xymon_vmstat.mail1.7997 /home/xymon/client/tmp/xymon_vmstat.mail1" Here is what I have done: - Used hostnamectl to change hostname, but have also being over /etc/hostname and hosts. - Changed the host in hosts.cfg in Xymon server. - Used the 'xymon 127.0.0.1 "rename OLDHOSTNAME NEWHOSTNAME"' - I have deleted the old make file and run make clean, and configured, build, and installed all over again. - I have search for mail1 string in Xymon folder, and found nothing. Updating ext scripts for use with Xymon WinPSClient

I've tried to run the winupd.vbs script with Xymon WinPSClient and it runs fine having added the following to client-local.cfg: external:slowscan:async:bb://winupd.vbs|SHA256|ab7fdf4a1cdb93d39eaad60748a9872ae9f224760a0ebb5ee4a79139865a0a9a But it is not getting reported to the server because it is getting written to root of C drive. I can see the script is looking for where to write the output to, but it's checking the Windows registry: Set oShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") ' Check to see If used with BBWin or Big Brother client and set extPath. extPath = oShell.RegRead("HKLM\SOFTWARE\BBWin\tmpPath") If extPath = "" Then extPath = oShell.RegRead("HKLM\SOFTWARE\Quest Software\BigBrother\bbnt\ExternalPath\") End If Xymon WinPSClient doesn't write these registry keys. I use the following for backwards compatibility / consistency in it's xymonclient_config.xml, but the script doesn't know that: <externaldatalocation>C:\BB\BBNT\Logs</externaldatalocation> How should this (and potentially other) scripts be altered to work with the WinPSClient? I guess adding the registry key value is one solution, but is there anything less dirty? Kind regards, SebA

Tiny suggestion: create download directory

I have a tiny little suggestion to the developers, at least of the RPM, create the download directory. The xymon-4.3.28-1.el7.x86_64 RPM does not create it and there is no official documentation about where to create it that I could find. Anyway, for the above RPM, creating it in the xymon user's home directory works (so it will be /usr/share/xymon/download ) and means that clients can download files from there using the bb://filename URL syntax. New server - using Terabithia RPMs - disk layout?

Hello, I have been given a new server to which to move our old Xymon service. The old service was all run out of one directory. With the RPM's I can see that things have split up a bit - for example into '/var/lib/xymon', '/usr/share/xymon', 'var/www/xymon' and so on. The new server has a (separate from the O/S) 30GB disk which I was going to create as a single partition and mount as one directory. However, I am unsure as to which directory is going to become most used (in terms of the number of files/directories). On the new server the '/var/www/xymon' directory has nothing in it, but according to our old server it contains the 'rep' and 'snap' subdirectories which contain the most data (5GB each). If both 'rep' and 'snap' can have most of their data deleted (which I think they can), then perhaps the partition should be assigned to '/var/lib/xymon' since (on the old server) it contains the 'hostdata' and 'histlogs' subdirectories, which in total are at just over 6GB at the moment. Any thoughts about this? Server - snap and rep directory contents

Hello, I am in the process of moving an old 4.3.12 (built from source) installation to a new server which will be running the 4.3.28 Terabithia RPMs. The old server has two very large directories - '/home/xymon/server/www/rep' and '/home/xymon/server/www/snap'. (The whole BB/xymon service was run out of the home directory.) Each directory is about 5GB in size. So I'm wondering if their contents need to be copied across to the new server? As far as I am aware we do not usually create actual reports of any sort. So is it generally okay to just delete the contents of both of these directories, perhaps keeping the past few months worth of reports? I see that the man page for 'reports.cgi' mentions about using a cron job to clean the directory (or unset the '--noclean' option if used). This is probably something we should look into for the new server. Should the same be done for the 'snap' directory too? how to remove XymonPSClient

Hi, I've been using the XymonPSClient for a while now successfully, but have never had a need to know how to uninstall it, until now. The installation is via command line. Is the uninstall done the same way? How do I remove this from my system? -- Kris Springer

Client uptime status is failing

Hi, I am having trouble w.r.t to uptime status generation in clients. The server is displaying uptime correctly since xymond fetches the data, whereas for the clients it does not fetch the uptime data. However it populates all other columns. Can you please suggest if I am missing anything here. Situation : Xymon server and Xymon clients are configured. The table is populated with colors and data being generated except for uptime in clients whereas the server is reporting uptime correctly. This is probably because of xymond daemon. The status message also indicated service not available which indicates xymond service. So how can we get the Xymon clients to update the uptime. Tasks.cfg file : # The client back-end module. You need this if you are running the Xymon client on any system. file check flapping and HTTP500 for xymoncgimsg.cgi

Hi, I have a problem where a file check for a machine hosting an ELK stack is flapping between green and white, triggering alerts because of this. FYI, the host is sending its status information over authenticated HTTPS POST calls to xymoncgimsg.cgi. I got to the point where I found out that the list of files that the client is reporting on is received from the server on every call and then, on subsequent runs, it is used to check the files and then report back. Upon further investigation I observed that on some runs, this HTTP POST returns an HTTP500 error, thus the client then points $LOGFETCHCFG to a file that contains the HTTP500 page instead of the list of files to check. This means that on the next run it will no longer report back to the server the status of the files. It will recover when the POST returns HTTP200, hence looping between green and white in between successful/unsuccessful POST requests. Now, I would very much like to understand what happens BUT xymoncgimsg.cgi which is receiving the HTTP POST is a binary and I'm not aware of how to enable debugging to see what happens on those runs that fail with HTTP500. FWIW, the calls only fail w/ HTTP500 for this particular host and I did consider the size of the status message - it's just around the 1MB mark. The MSG size set in the configs sits at 2MB currently so I thought I should be covered here but maybe you guys know better than me. For now, my quick/dirty hack was to `chattr +i` on a working $LOGFETCHCFG just so that I no longer get the flapping behavior but I would like to see this get a proper fix. Would anyone be able to advise on a next step? Looking through C source files is not exactly what I want to do since I don't have the expertise to do so but would be willing to give it some love. So... help?!? :) Thanks!

History broken after cleaning up old data with trimhistory

good day all, my xymon 4.3.28-1.el7.terabithia running on Centos7 has encountered a problem since i made a cleanup using trimhistory command. If a test (i.e. conn or anyelse) has been failing for a few hours, clicking the History Button shows all green bars, no red bars for the KO period. The bars show red lines for previous failures only until the time i used the trimhistory. What is the possible cause and solution? I issued this command: /usr/libexec/xymon/trimhistory --drop --droplogs --dropsvcs --cutoff=`date +%s --date="1 Oct 2018"` --env=/etc/xymon/xymonserver.cfg Thanks in advance!
