Debian 9 stretch clients - trends netstat graph bug?

Hi, We have three Debian 9 (stretch) servers running the xymon-client package (version 4.3.28-2). I noticed yesterday that the 'trends' column for these clients was showing a 'TCP/IP statistics' graph, but was only showing values for the 'In' graph. Both the 'Out' and 'Retrans' values were NaN. If anyone else is running the Xymon client on a Debian 9 server, or may be even Debian 8, could they check their 'trends' graphs and see if the same problem exists for them. Thanks. As far as I can tell this started when we upgraded the client server O/S from Debian 7 to 9 (a few months ago now!). It seems there were values for all 3 graph lines when they ran Debian 7. The RRD netstat file, which is used for the statistics graph, shows a 'U' for the 'Out' and 'Retrans' values. Looking at the actual code (in xymond/rrd/do_netstat.c), it seems that the netstat output is expected to be the same for most Linux distributions and versions. It shows: ========= /* This one matches all Linux systems */ static char *netstat_linux_markers[] = { "packets received", "packets sent", "packet receive errors", "active connections openings", "passive connection openings", "failed connection attempts", "connection resets received", "connections established", "", "", "", "", "segments send out", /* Yes, they really do write "send" */ "segments received", "", "segments retransmited", NULL }; ========= However, the netstat output collected by the clients shows, looking at the TCP section: ========= Tcp: 3045575 active connection openings 251770 passive connection openings 9335 failed connection attempts 4520 connection resets received 37 connections established 1359715245 segments received 1330630207 segments sent out 119457 segments retransmitted 10 bad segments received 32339 resets sent InCsumErrors: 2 ========= Some things seem to be wrong: 1) The code looks for 'active connections openings', but netstat shows 'active connection openings'. Singular on the 'connection' word. 2) The code looks for 'segments send out', but netstat shows 'segments sent out'. So despite the comment in the code, the output uses 'sent' rather than 'send'. 3) The code looks for 'segments retransmited', but the netstat output shows 'segments retransmitted'. So there is a double 't' in retransmitted (or 3 all together). 4) The order of the 'segments' lines is different from the code, but I'm not sure if that is important. (Haven't looked at the code that much in depth.) I'm not sure if this is the cause of the TCP/IP stats graph not showing values, but it doesn't seem right. Feature request: being able to use client certificates for network tests (NOT http)

I want to be able to test a TLS service that use server and client certificates, and the only way seems to be with http, but this is not an http(s) service. It would need to be configurable in protocols.cfg or some other way in hosts.cfg. I tried pretending it was https and it says 'SSL error' in the test output. It doesn't create the sslcert column either, or I could just disable the https test and still get the certificate monitoring, which is what I wanted most anyway. Kind regards, SebA

Hi I have committed v2.41 today - bit of a version number jump because we've been testing a number of small fixes internally before releasing. Download from SVN<https://sourceforge.net/p/xymon/code/HEAD/tree/sandbox/WinPSClient/> (the documentation has been updated also, including uninstall instructions). Key changes: * replaced classic event log discovery (Get-EventLog) with Get-WinEvent - this opens up new event logs like Windows Defender etc * removed [EventLogSummary] section - [msgs:EventLogSummary] works * incorporated function XymonEventLogs into core event log processing (function XymonMsgs) - this allows the summary to only contain the logs in eventlogswanted This is the main change, which should not impact but does open up new options. Newer versions of Windows have a new event log format only accessible via Get-WinEvent and there was one place in the code still using the classic commands. This change means you can now specify these new event logs in eventlogswanted, like this: eventlogswanted:application,system,Microsoft-Windows-Windows Defender/Operational:2500000:information,critical,error One side effect of this is that the event log summary now only contains the logs specified in eventlogswanted because there are hundreds of non-classic event logs available on typical installations. * add different status colour options for XymonSendLog (contributed by Andy Smith <abs at shadymint.com>) This is the second key change - the idea is to capture the logs when the client is updated (which occurs on a slowscan). The additions to the xymonlogsend directive allow you to change colour on a slow scan and a client restart, which causes a history change in Xymon - this means you can then view the logs from those changes in the Xymon front end using the history options. Hello, I am an IT Manager for a non-profit charity, and am looking at using Zymon, to monitor our servers: . My Terminal Server (same network as the Zymon server) . Web Server on Azure (Windows Server 2019) . Hi, Could you please help me? I am trying to install xymon on red hat 7. I google the internet but can't find any support information. HPE BL460c Gen9 SNMP tests going clear

Hi all All of our Gen9 servers are flicking between green and clear for Devmon SNMP tests. (Posting here as Devmon seems a dead project.) The attached screen region grab shows what I'm trying to say. I've updated the firmware (including iLO) on one server and it made no difference. Anyone else seen this? Thanks CC

What does the 'dns' test do?

Hi, Using the 4.3.28 Terabithia RPMs, can someone tell me what the 'dns' test actually does? We actually negate the test ('!dns'), and run a client-side dns test ('dnsr') to check that resolution is working. As far as I remember the standard 'dns' test checks that the client DNS service can resolve something. This will always fail in our case as the client DNS service is always restricted to just the local host. (No querying allowed from an external server.) I'm trying to work out why most of our servers are taking less than a second - giving a 'Server unavailable' reply, but others are taking around 20 seconds for a 'Timeout' reply. I know why the timeout is 20 seconds, I'm just wondering why it's not giving a 'Server unavailable' reply. Alerts STOP command not working

Does anyone have a working example of STOP? The man page says: # STOP - Valid for a recipient: If this recipient gets an # alert, recipients further down in alerts.cfg # are ignored. enhancement request: memory usage in real values

Hi, We need an historic graph of the real values of Physical, Actual and Swap memory usage. But only the percent values are stored in the rrd files. Has someone already patched the sources to create rrd files with the real values? If so, can I have the patch :) Otherwise I have to brush up my C knowledge and do it myself. Stef
