Jeremy, Try adding another column to one of the tests: Humidity : 21.0 Test : 19.0 I had a problem where I was feeding in four values, the fourth one would never appear in the rrd file. I figure out that it needed a newline when I sent the status message: `cat $line` " I just put the quote on the line below the cat. When I had it on the same line: `cat $line`" , it didn't read in the fourth value. I'm just wondering if because you only have one value, the new line isn't sent and so it's not creating an rrd file. By adding a value below Humidity or Test, you could check for it. The other thing I did when I created my test was to restart Hobbit Server. Problems with hanging hobbit page

Hi, I'm currently testing a hobbit installation using 2 hobbit servers (4.3.0-0.20080103) and some bbwin clients (0.10). I'm using the centralized mode, pushing configuration files to the clients from the server(s), which works fine. I have a problem with the hobbit status page though; when the page is re-loaded automatically, it hangs mid-way on diferent places different times. If I press F5 to reload the page, it loads all of the page without problem. I have examined the apache log files and client browser log but could not find a cause. Have anyone here experienced the same issue? Another question; I have set up the client configuration files identically on both servers (under etc/bbwin). How does that work? How do the server / client know which server to get the configuration files from? (it works fine, I'm just curious). Regards, Peter

Hi all The rrdtool RPMs are in the Fedora 7/8 Everything repos. This means that the _might_ find their way into RHEL6 providing rrdtool (and all its components) are compatible with RedHat. It's unlikely hobbit would go into RHEL until it's been in Fedora and I've had a quick look at the hobbit README and seen that there are four components that are not GPLed, this may or may not be a problem for RedHat's lawyers. This post (http://www.archivum.info/fedora-extras-list at redhat.com/2005-05/msg00099 .html) requested a review of hobbit for inclusion in Fedora but looks like no one took up the challenge. Anyway, I've raised tickets 1801320 and 1801322 with RedHat to have rrdtool and hobbit included in RHEL5. I have some experience creating/maintaining RPMs so I'll put my name forward for consideration in the interim. Last week I installed the FC5 rpm, and it installed to /etc/hobbit, whereas the tarball by default installs to a subdirectory of /home. Some people like system tools to be in a "system" directory, while others like being able to install to a user space controlled location. Any other ideas? Am I leaving anything out? Setting up second network tester

My Hobbit server does the display, network testing and alerting. Using the default 5 minute interval for network tests. Some have complained that connectivity tests to certain routers should happen more frequently. But, as far as I can see, network testing interval is an all or nothing variable. So I'm thinking of setting up second network tester and using NET variable in bb-hosts to have the particular routers in question tested by second network tester, running its tests more frequently. Preamble done - now, how do I go about setting up second network tester? Configuring another server and disabling all unnecessary tasks in hobbitlaunch.cfg? If so, which will I need for the tester to work properly? Eric Jacobs

Ext module for monitoring HPUX fiber HBA cards

Before I go off and re-invent the wheel, was wondering if anyone has developed an ext module for checking performance on fiber HBA cards on HPUX platforms. Still trying to figure out what all would be of interest besides the I/O rate (how close to saturating the PCI bus backplane). Checked on deadcat and searching with various buzz words did not find anything of interest. Figure would be generating a list of fiber devices (Tachyons in particular) and feeding them through tdutil command with "devstat all" arguments. HP support recommended using tddiag which can be overkill even with some of the options specified. I know there are some ext modules for monitoring performance on the fiber switches. I was monitoring on Brocade switches but we have switched over to Cisco switches and I no longer have access to the switches. I also want to monitor health at the PCI backplane to HBA card interface.

Help Getting Custom Graph Working

I seem to be having a problem getting a custom graph to work. I've gotten it working in the past, but I'm having problems. I'm sending four values via a test. When I do a rrdump, it shows only three of the values. The fourth value doesn't show up. If I rotate the third with the fourth value, ie..re-order them, the other value shows up. example: Users : 11 Unauth : 4 Attempts : 13 Total : 486 So,Total doesn't show up, but if I rotate total with Attempts, and remove the login.rrd file, then Attempts doesn't show up. Here's what my hobbitserver.cfg file looks like: NCV_login="Users:GAUGE,Unauth:GAUGE,Attempts:GAUGE,Total:GAUGE" Thanks.James

Monitoring modbus devices

Hi, I want to see if any one is using Hobbit to monitor devices such as generators, process coolers, fire supression systems that talk modbus and if you are how are you doing it. There are various options that I can see in my research. There is a modbus library for Linux which may enable a way of receiving the data and then using a script to alert on it. There are also modbus to snmp convertors like the babel buster which can be used with devmon. Question on Graphing - -Custom Graph

Hello, I have a question on custom graphing. When I first did my NCV graph, I had some extra text at the top and it tried to build the rrd database with that. I removed the text and the rrd database was created correctly, and I'm now graphing just fine. However, I want to add additional text in the window with my custom graph. example: Users : 11 Unauth : 4 Attempts : 13 Total : 486 Instead I want this: Number of Users connecting. Users : 11 Number of Unauthorized connections. Unauth : 4 Will it work if I do it like this? If not, what's the best way, put the descriptions at the bottom? Thanks.James
