Hi Howard, Did you modify your Apache configuration to include the Hobbit bits? trimhistory problems

Hello, I am trying to do some hobbit house keeping by using the trimhistory tool, however it is not working as expected. I have run the following command and expected no action to be taken as the server was only built in November 2007 [root at xxx01x $] /var/hobbit/server/bin/trimhistory --debug --env=/var/hobbit/server/etchobbitserver.cfg --cutoff=`date +%s --date="1 Oct 2004"` However it looks to be trimming logs from many hosts: 2008-01-09 15:30:31 Processing xxx04x.conn 2008-01-09 15:30:31 Processing xxx01x.conn 2008-01-09 15:30:31 Processing xxx01x.conn 2008-01-09 15:30:31 Processing xxx01x.conn 2008-01-09 15:30:31 Processing xxx03x.conn .......... When i then look at the conn tests on the above servers, i have different lengths of history left, days or hours, so not consistent for each one. It is as if the --cutoff option is not working, does this have to be the 1st command after trimhistory? Server in question has correct date set [root at xxx01x etc]# date Wed Jan 9 17:03:50 GMT 2008 looking at another server that it has yet to get too shows that there are no logs older than Nov 2007. hosts wildcards in clients-local.cfg

Hello, Just wanted to ask a quick question (went through the archive, but haven't found an answer for my question): Is it possible to use host wildcards in clients-local.cfg file ? They do work for me for example in hobbit-clients.cfg but it seems that I can not make it work in clients-local.cfg. In hobbit-clients.cfg I am using for example as follows: HOST=%www..\.foo\.com but it doesn't work in clients-local.cfg. Any hints ? Thanks. Can someone complete this command and send me the results? I don't think Hobbit is running correctly on my server and I'm new to Unix and want to make sure. [hobbit] Conn test problems

Josh, I just had similar problem last night. For one cycle hobbit reported it couldn't ping the entire shop! Needless to say it set off some alarms around here. I find nothing in the hobbit logs, and nothing in the syslog for the hobbit server to indicate a NIC issue. My network guy sees nothing on the switch for the switch or the port. I was also under the impression that the ping test is done every 60s or 120s so these tests just can't be true positive results. Poking around I also found that the test to my hobbit server (this is 127.0.0.1 <http://127.0.0.1> mind you) went up in early December. I believe there are some entries inside this event log causing the BBWIN difficulty. For now, I shall leave MSGS disabled and rely on the other tests. Hobbit monitoring help needed

Hobbit (4.2.0-with patches) is running http-tests for a particular system. This system is very unstable and Hobbit proves it, but now and then the http-check for that host fails in a strange way. The page output turns to YELLOW for 10 minutes(!) while each of the 5 tested URL's fail (status RED): [snip] Wed Jan 9 21:25:04 2008: Server timeout ; Server timeout ; Server timeout ; Server timeout ; Server timeoutSeconds: http://some.url/ - Server timeout Seconds: 10.06 [snip] Now 1 minute later, this same test turns into RED instead of yellow. Why first yellow, then red? And then all alarms are triggered at once?! Anyway, I do not understand Hobbit's response?! Any help much appreciated, Peter

I was wondering how you know what to set your thresholds at for the primary and secondary stats. I assume it has something to do with the size of the server but is there a way to calculate it. Like I have 8 gig of ram and 4 sparc processors so is there a way to calculate these variables for the bmio column. Thanks, Josh

Aha! It seems I made two mistakes (specifically for this problem, never mind the rest of life): 1. The defaults line should be configured thus: 0.0.0.0 .default. # [insert default tests here] 2. You cannot specify network tests in the defaults line. My question now becomes: What defines a network test? This is not as stupid as it sounds, I am looking at an email sent to this distribution list back in 2005 where it is said: the default entries can only be used for some of the tags that you can put in the bb-hosts file, and NOT for the network tests. Those that you can put in a default section are those that are not host- or test-specific: dialup, nobb2, nodisp, DESCR, TRENDS, NK, NKTIME, WML, NOPROP*, REPORTTIME, WARNPCT, NET, nosslcert, ssldays, DOWNTIME, noping, noconn, trace, notrace, depends. Surely noconn is a network test (or rather, a negation of one). Also, I don't really understand what a non-host-specific or non-test-specific entry is.
