Network tests stopped graphing

For no reason that I can see, my network tests are no longer being graphed. I run tests for ldap, smtp and ssh. All tests on all hosts are working with no alerts being generated. Until about 2 days ago, there was a single graph available for each host that showed the response times for these three tests and the ping test. Now all the graphs show is the value for ping. This is only happening for some hosts (most). The rrd's have timestamps that would indicate they are being updated, an 'rrdtool dump' of one of the tcp rrd's shows that the values for all timestamps since the problem started are 0. No changes to the configuration have been made and as I mentioned, the actual tests are working. Acknowledgment Code

Hi Henrik. I think it would be nice to see the Acknowledgment Code on the page where the alert is shown so you don't have to look at the mails to get it. Or does it make more sense to acknowledge an alert only by persons who already have been informed about the issue? regards Christian

Newbie question

I hate to ask what appears to be such a 'newbie' question, but I'm stumped... I've installed hobbit on one of about a dozen servers. I've configured bb-hosts correctly and can see some basic status information about each host. What should I install on the other hosts so that I can see cpu information, disk space, etc? Do I need to install hobbit everywhere? Thanks! [hobbit] Newbie question

Normally a Hobbit client, but I'm not sure what the status of that is. The Big Brother clients (windows included) can send their data to a Hobbit server (for now). Alert Acknowledgment Codes any update?

Hi there Is this already in Hobbit, or is it still on the drawing board ? That is the availability to let NOC acknowledge, without getting any emails with code in it ? Our monitoring is handled by a NOC manned 24x7, and when an alert pops up on the Hobbit NK view they raise a trouble-ticket in some other system. The NOC people dont get an e-mail or pager alert, but it would still be nice if they could acknowledge "yes, a TT has been raised about this" to get the problem off their monitor. So I will probably implement some way of putting an "acknowledge" function on the webpages - this would have to be protected with some sort of access control, obviously. Choose which colors to show bb2.html ?

Hi Henrik first of all I hope your back is going better. With Hobbit, currently it's possible to choose which tests to include / exclude from bb2.html, would it be possible to choose which colors should appear in bb2.html ? some questions

Hi, I'm running Hobbit snapshot as of 9/3. I got few questions. 1. In what situations, I need to restart something to make configuration works? It's not clear to me that whether to restart foo after modifying bar.cfg. 2. According to FAQ, it says after a network test is failed, it will retry every 1 minute until 30 minutes later. Does the failure means red? If so, how about yellow? 3. Is is possible to postpone some network tests after the target machine is up for 5 minutes or so? The reason is that some daemon does not start up (yet) when the machine can response ping. I don't want to get false alert for this. A possible workaround is to use badXXX tag in bb-hosts. But I wonder if there is a better way? 4. Is it possible to generate PDF reports? I saw it on demo site but it seems malfunction. Maybe I think I can generate one from the spreadsheet :-) Thanks, Rong-En Fan

http test on switches - fail

Hi all, I've set up hobbit (4.1.1) to check for http, conn and ssh on some switches, but the results have been mixed. All the switches have web interfaces and I can get to each of them via any browser. Some of the lower end switches don't appear to send any identifying information back to the hobbit server. For these switches Hobbit shows a time for the http connection and graphs it, but shows red and no identifying info. Hobbit shows a time, graph and green for the high end switches that return some info about the http server used. Is there a way to flag this http test so it doesn't go red if it doesn't receive anything but a connection time ? Or am I misunderstanding how this works ? Chuck Morrison

Have a simple rule in hobbit-alerts.cfg: HOST=%.* SCRIPT /usr/lib/hobbit/server/ext/pg/cfrun cfrun FORMAT=SCRIPT REPEAT=10 MAIL bb-pg-oncall FORMAT=TEXT REPEAT=60 DURATION>5 I note that these trigger on a yellow status, in addition to red or purple. I have ALERTCOLORS="red,purple" defined in hobbitserver.cfg. Note also I am using the BB client, not the Hobbit client. Does ALERTCOLORS have an effect? If not, what is the correct format to filter out yellow alerts, and just trigger on red and purple? Henrik, do you plan to include the messages reporting functionality within 4.1.2 release? Is it possible that you provide a statement about the approximate release date?
