We are in the process of creating custom header / footer files for our implementation of hobbit. Everything is going smoothly (the bulletin_header / footer files made things MUCH easier), but we have run into a couple of snags. Right now we are putting all the meta tag and page TITLE info (and a few of the page specific JS functions) into the normal bb_header, bb2_header, etc files, while removing all the other information normally contained in those files. We then created a bulletin_header file and moved everything else into that file. This helps us to have a standard look to all of the pages such that when we want to make a change to the appearance we only have to change the bulletin files. One of the problems with method is the page name ("Current Status", "Current non-green Systems", "EventLog", etc). Because there is no variable for this, we have no easy way to put the page name into the page body. Do you have any plans to add this variable? Because the bbgen already knows the name of the page, couldn't you just create two dimensional array or lookup table to populate this variable? The other issue we have encountered deals with the 'FONT' tags. We are converting the page to be styled using css, but the hardcoded fonts make this more difficult. We are able to unset some of the font information by setting the font variables in hobbitserver.cfg to be blank, but some of the fonts are hardcoded. What do you think about making these hardcoded fonts variables instead? How about not printing the FONT tag when the variable assigned to it (MKBBACKFONT, MKBBCOLFONT, MKBBROWFONT, etc) are set to be blank? What do you think about having a header / footer for the help files? FWIW: We are using version 4.2.0 on Solaris 8. Thanks for all the great work. Hi friends, I want to generate a summary page with some selected hosts, I would like something similar of the script from deadcat mkbb3.sh, but hacking this code , I've found that it uses the log file summary page from the big brother and in hobbit we generate the bb2 page directly from the bbgen. Has someone have an suggestion or did something like this? Thanks in advance, Mario.

[hobbit] Moving from BB to Hobbit

You can use bb clients (unix and windows work). The big difference is that with bb you'll need to have distributed configuration on all client, using the hobbit client you can centralize the configuration on the server for the Unix machine. The hobbit unix client have also some more tests it do on clients and is a bit more user friendly on configuration. You can probably start with the bb client and migrate them to hobbit in some times (the client installation is a compile 1 time for architecture and copy the directory to the same architecture servers operation so it will not require too much time). And one time you've installed 4.2 clients you can them update/upgrade them in the future automatically. We're currently using the bb windows client on more then 50 servers, we're thinking to change to the bbwin client that have some more functionality but having a xml configuration file (instead of having a centralized configuration like the unix client) and without a GUI it's a bit more complicate than the unix ones. Some of the next versions of the bbwin client should also have the gui and the centralized configuration so it could be a good thing to start testing with it also. LOG test fails to IGNORE ?

hi, I have one single Hobbit server running 4.2RC1-20060712 on CentOS 4. Clients have some harmless SELinux warning messages in /var/log/messages. I configured Hobbit to ignore such lines (conf entries appended). However, the LOG test still generates alerts. Below is excerpted from an email alert. Any idea why? Hello all, I've been running bb1.9e for some time. I am considering an upgrade to Hobbit. I'll be building a test box shortly for the server. Regarding the clients, can the hobbit server take client data from bb1.9e clients? Or do I need to use the Hobbit client? And how about Windows clients? Thanks Shane

Grouping test

Hi all, I would to like to group test as follows,because some servers have to many tests. Dear All, I try to test the spamd-test. But it does not work, since it is running on localhost and hobbit tests on hostname. Ie: $ telnet localhost 783 Trying... Connected to localhost. Escape character is 'ÜÅ'. PING SPAMC/spam SPAMD/1.2 0 PONG Connection closed by foreign host. $ telnet leopg9 783 Trying... telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused $ Could anyone help me? Hobbit perl client v1.13a (quick fix)

Hi all, there's a bug with a time convertion function in almost all old version of the script that will generate a big amount of Warning. I got it just in the netapp.pl script but it could affect also other script. The bug is currently affecting at least v1.12 and v1.13 so please upgrade as soon as you can. A little remark for people using the script with perl 5.8.0 at least on RHEL3. There's a problem with Sys-SigAction module on perl 5.8.0 (I don't know if it's also in with other OS/Release I just tested on RHEL3/perl5.8.0 and a standard installation) that will not let the alarm to be set and this will result in all script to generate timeout on all tests. A Fix for the module is probably on it's way with a 0.07 version of the module in some days. If you need any help with it or you've got malfunction with some of the last version of the script contact me for a quickfix to this issue (I hope the new Sys-SigAction will be ready and online for the next week).
