How will this handle situations where you have the same machine listed on different subpages? Will that machine show up twice in the totals? So as Francesco mentioned, you should fetch the status with the hobbitdboard command. Something like this would do it: bb 127.0.0.1 "hobbitdboard color=red,yellow,purple,green test=conn fields=color" | sort | uniq -c On one of my systems this yields: 1416 green 68 purple 143 red Sounds like what the original poster wanted. ALERTS time of day problem

Morning All (UK Time) I've got an issue with the TIME function in hobbit-alerts which is causing us a few problems. Hobbit has been running fine and we've starting making finer grained control on the alerts so that we don't get paged out of hours for stuff that we don't need to deal with. Below is the hobbit-alerts entries. The problem is that last night at 03:30am we were called out for an alert on the aq service which according to how the alert is setup should only be paging us between 0900 and 1700 weekdays. This is on 4.2PRE, we have newer snapshots running in test but I don't want to upgrade this platform unless I have to as it is running completely stable except for this TIME problem. Any ideas? Could you chage date in the script to be a variable? DATE=/path/to/gnudate. I don't mind changing the #! to point to my bash but its a pain to change date! NCV variable for custom RRD's

Henrik, Thanks for this info, i'm still using 4.1.2, so i know how to fix it. I still have two questions about this NCV system : - Is it possible to define a graph in hobbitgraph.cfg for rrd files with "variable" datasets. By example when i send status messages for different temperature sensors of a network switch (chassis, power supply, ...) the data in the (single) rrd looks good whith the different ds names. So if it is possible to just graph all the existing datasets in the rrd, i can use a single rrd-config for the temperature of different switchen, servers, ..., otherwise i need a different "temp"-testname for all the different devices. - How can i send graph data to hobbit for a "cpu" test for switches. Can this send by using a status message, or do i need to send a data message (like hobbitclient)? If it must be with a data message, i found in de man pages "data HOSTNAME.DATANAME<newline><additional text>", what is the DATANAME for the cpu data, and is there a minimum data that must be send ([date],[uname],[uptime],..). I have several questions, none of them related to each other: 1. I notice that "logfetch" is suid root. Will the hobbit client function normally if it is not suid and it is owned by the hobbit client user (assuming the hobbit client user can read /var/log/messages)? If so the client "make install" should not fail when being installed as the hobbit user. 2. Is there or will there be an option to not display the "Files" column? I'm not doing file checks on most hosts, and I'm tired of people asking me "why is that dot white?" :) 3. Can we use regular expressions or wildcards in the "expect" option of bb-services? 4. If you update client-local.cfg, do you have to restart the clients for them to receive the new configurations, or will they pick it up on their next connect? 5. I have previously brought up the issue of Acknowledging alerts requires having the alert number from the alert email. This is a problem for folks who just monitor the web page, or more likely, find it frustrating to have to go find and open the alert email to cut and paste the number. What would be nice is if the Acknowledge alert page displayed all of the hosts currently in alert status, and let you select and ack them (either with seperate explanations, or a single for all selected). 6. I think I remember long ago you were considering adding a bbfetch-like functionality, to handle the cases where the remote hosts are behind a firewall/DMZ and the only port open was for SSH. Basically the Hobbit client would have an option to, instead of sending data to the hobbit server, write it to a static datafile that the hobbit server would scp over and process. Is this still on the drawing board? Enough questions for now...Thanks for making such a great product! -Charles

That might be something we should include in the standard Hobbit client (I don't think it would require much new code, it can probably be handled almost completely by the current filesystem code). Hi, I have again a problem on solaris 9: The service "conn" is in status "red" service conn is not ok: host does not respond to ping remark: the hobbit-user has no sudo-rights. and: if I look at the conn status or other status messages, the image of hobbit graph is not shown. and: I get the following message, if I click on the "hobbit graph" Internet explorer cannot download.....eursun11&nostale&action=menu from eursun11.
