failover feature?

One of the things we really make use of in our current bb setup is the failover capability, which has been quite useful on more than one occasion. We have 2 geographically separate data centers which are connected via a fat pipe, and we do redundant monitoring of each data centers via bb servers from each data center. The bb servers in data center 1 normally does all the alerting, but in case the bb servers in data center 2 can't reach the bb servers in data center 1 (for instance in case of wan outage) the bb servers in data center 2 fail over and take on all the alerting duties. If and when the bb servers in data center 1 become reachable again, the bb servers in data center 1 revert to the normal non-alerting state. I looked through the hobbit configs but don't see that failover functionality. Is that something envisioned for a future release, or is there simply a different approach to that problem in hobbit as compared to bb?

I'm a long time bb user, looking to hobbit as a possible migration path. I've installed hobbit-4.2.beta.20060605 on a suse 10.0 system, and for the most part everything works well, just like a nicer version of big brother. hobbitd_larrd is crashing

For some reason hobbitd_larrd has started crashing on my main production server. Anyone doing VMS?

All, Just curious if anyone out there was monitoring VMS systems with hobbit, and if so, what client you were using, and if you had to do any modifications to get it to work. The best "feature rich" client I have been able to find is "bb_ovms" It monitors CPU, DISK, PROCS (up down). Most of the others just monitor CPU and DISK. Both of these clients seem to lack most of the functionality that both BB and Hobbit can provide, which is why I was wondering if there was a better client out there that i was missing. Thanks, Jeff

Is the subject line for the email alerts configurable without editing source? I'd like to place the machine name before the code, to allow them to be sorted more easily. Stewart

[hobbit] sending snmp traps

Then I suggest some quality time with Google. Net-SNMP has a trap sending program, I believe, that reduces the work. You might also check CPAN to see if someone hasn't written a trap sending module that works entirely within Perl and perhaps a library. I know MRTG uses some Perl code that doesn't appear to depend on anything else for SNMP queries. Http "forbidden" errors

Henrik, I currently have an http test that is getting a "403 Forbidden" response. Hobbit is not marking this as an error. Would it be possible to have Hobbit treat a "Forbidden" response as an error and alert on it? Thanks, Larry Barber

[hobbit] Feature request/improvement LOG file monitoring

Hello, We have some extremely busy log files, that it can be quite challenging to capture what we want. The 'trigger' key word helps, but has the side effect of only grabbing from the keyword onwards. Could it be changed to get the whole line onwards? ~David
