Hi all, I have just created a NCV graph with 2 values. My first ;-) As the RRd does avarage trending, is it at all possible to have accurate values stored ? what I mean is that I would like the current value to be excatly the same as the reported value and the max value to be the all time highest value. But does the format of RRD prevent this ? Be Thomas

ntpdate fixes ?

I'm running Hobbit on an FC6 box and had some problems in the past with it giving me a core file and crashing out. I did a fresh install with the Feb 9 allinonepatch and it cleared up. Since then I've had 2 core files show up in the server directory. Both point to ntpdate as the culprit: [hobbit at hobbit server]$ gdb ntpdate core.29335 GNU gdb Red Hat Linux (6.5-15.fc6rh) Copyright (C) 2006 Free Software Foundation, Inc. Core was generated by `ntpdate -u -q -p 2 10.1.2.35 SED=/bin/sed GREP=/bin/grep NETFAILTEXT=not OK BBD'. Program terminated with signal 11, Segmentation fault. #0 0x008d4402 in ?? () (gdb) quit Searching the archives revealed a thread in Sept. of last year talking about changing the way hobbit dealt with time stuff. When I run the ntpdate command manually I get all sorts of interesting errors, but it's acting like it is trying to find each of those entries as a server, so I'm wondering if I should just be playing with the command to get it to not send out errors ... if that would straighten out the core problems. Hobbit linux client and BB prof server

Hi Guys, I am testing the actual (4.2.0) hobbit client together with a BigBrother professional monitoring server. With windows clients and bbwin 0.9 no issue at all. Only the Linux client does not really want to work. Compilation and all that stuff works great, but when it comes to send the gathered data to the monitoring server, I receive the following errors: On the client in /var/log/hobbit/hobbitclient.log: 2007-02-23 15:20:42 Write error while sending message to bbd at x.x.x.x:1984 2007-02-23 15:20:42 Whoops ! bb failed to send message - write error On the Server in BBOUT: Fri Feb 23 15:12:16 2007 bbd Connection terminated from y.y.y.y (partial message) Does anybody know what the issue is ? find host problem

When i check "jump to page" in Admnistration Menu/Find Host, the server can´t find the generated page. If i remove "Jump to page" works great ! I try in serverals ways but nothing resolve the problem.... I have solaris 10 sparc and hobbit 4.2.0. Can somebody help me? THANKS A LOT !!!!

vmstat inconsistency on Linux

Hi all, Hobbit is a amazing software, but it has a small painful misbehaviour regarding vmstat on Linux : I have a lot of hosts with several different flavors of Linux. Every now and then in the history of procps, the output of vmstat changes. That sucks but it's there. The way hobbit handles vmstat data does not work well. Basically, it try to guess the format of vmstat from the kernel version or OS flavour (on RHEL, the format changes when you switch from 3.1 to 3.2 !). So, only the version of vmstat matters. * vmstat version 2.0.6 looks like this : procs memory swap io system cpu r b w swpd free buff cache si so bi bo in cs us sy id 0 1 0 7520 13236 31856 386296 3 0 3 2 5 1 1 4 2 * vmstat version 3.2.7 looks like this : procs -----------memory---------- ---swap-- -----io---- -system------cpu---- r b swpd free buff cache si so bi bo in cs us sy id wa 0 0 7520 14028 30544 386980 3 0 3 2 5 1 83 15 2 0 The two above commands where launched on the same machine, a Debian 2.2 with a 2.4.31 kernel. On an older kernel (2.2.25, ouch), vmstat 2.0.6 has the same output, and vmstat 3.2.7 just says "FATAL: kernel too old". [hobbit] - MySQL monitoring

You can use also dbcheck.pl to track the mysql database (connection and same stats as the normal sqlstatus script). The new version also has a custom query engine so it's possible to write to query to analyze and if someone know how to get more data out of sqlserver with query or sql command I can arrange some more checks for it (and graphs also...). Quick Feature request Service Intelligence By that I mean, under certain circumstances allow services to go above threshold levels.. So for example, if a process x is running on a database server allow CPU to go above y You could also say If a reload process is happening on server x allow http to not alert Just an idea that came to me while discussing batch job load on a database server that one of our teams is using. Where a specific batch job could send the cpu load high and that is expected, but the batch job isn't scheduled and is just run as and when. But the control has to be fairly fine grained to stop the server not alerting when there is an issue.
