Problem configuring HobbitFetch

I have my Hobbit server behind a firewall. The Hobbit server appears to be running fine. I'm getting cpu, disk, files, etc data from client systems on the same network segment. With systems outside the firewall, I am only getting the conn, info, and trends - nothing else. I'm using hobbit-4.2.0.tar.gz source on RHEL4 WS boxes, both server and clients. On my outside client, /usr/local/hobbit/client/tmp has; hobbit_vmstat.ggw-s-log.ggw.noaa.gov.10947 msg.ggw-s-log.ggw.noaa.gov.txt The file creation dates are current, and being updated. In /usr/local/hobbit/client/etc/clientlaunch.cfg I've changed [msgcache] DISABLED to ENABLED In .../hobbitclient.cfg, BBDISP="127.0.0.1" selinux is set to permissive. The hobbit client has been restarted. The msgcache.log shows a normal start and listening on 0.0.0.0:1984 The clientlaunch.log does not show any errors. The hobbitclient.log does not show any errors. (existing entries are old errors.) Hobbit is configured to use uid = "bb". User bb can ssh without a password from the internal server to the external client. Tested on IP, and all variations of the full URL, and configured alias URLs. In /usr/local/hobbit/server/etc/bb-hosts, the external client has "pulldata" listed after the # The hobbit server has been restarted. I must be missing something, but I'm not having much luck figuring out what it is. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Gar

nagios vs hobbit

In my opinion, no competition at all! I've just taken on a new job where they use Nagios for monitoring. I've never used nagios before so it's a pretty steep learning curve. The setup is basic and it's may job to flesh it out and provide some detail - graphs, reports etc. Every time I have to add a new monitor or get asked to graph something, I keep thinking 'This would be so much easier with hobbit!'

I/O Statistics per Filesystem

Hi All, Is there a scripts in hobbit that monitors disk I/O performance in linux box per filesystem and with graphical presentation ? What I have now is I/O performance but per block or system wide. Create Customized schedule for alerts

Hi, I have set of servers that I want the alerts go as followed I need the first alert to go after 5 minutes , then every 30 minutes for two hours , then every four hours till it recovers. I tried some thing like DURATION>5 REPEAT=30m,60m,90m,120m,4h RECOVERED but it didn`t work.. Any ideas .. Thanks Tom

Downtime Question

Okay, I know this is going to be an easy answer, but I'm trying to setup a multiple downtime window for one of my services, but I can't seem to have it kick in. two questions: 1 If a service is already down, when you change bb-hosts for the downtime window, will it turn red->blue? 2 What, if anything, is wrong with this statement? DOWNTIME=cam:60:0000:2400,*:1930:0830 My goal is to ignore it from 730p to 830a daily and all day saturday and sunday The info page shows: cam:60:0000:2400, All days:1930:0830 under the planned downtime. Comma-separated lists of hostnames in hobbit-alerts.cfg is not documented, so maybe we could add something like this (taken from http://hobbitmon.sourceforge.net/docs/man5/hobbit-clients.cfg.5.html) to http://hobbitmon.sourceforge.net/docs/man5/hobbit-alerts.cfg.5.html: HOST=targetstring Rule matching a host by the hostname. "targetstring" is either a comma-separated list of hostnames (from the bb-hosts file), "*" to indicate "all hosts", or a Perl-compatible regular expression. E.g. "HOST=dns.foo.com,www.foo.com" identifies two specific hosts; "HOST=%www.*.foo.com EXHOST=www-test.foo.com" matches all hosts with a name beginning with "www", except the "www-test" host. Adding an example that used the comma-separated syntax to http://hobbitmon.sourceforge.net/docs/hobbit-alerts.html and hobbit-alerts.cfg (sample) files would also be good. And, actually, maybe something to say that the comma-separated syntax can be used in all XXX= places (except, presumably, REPEAT) and also for the recipient. One really shouldn't have to work this basic stuff out using: $ ./bin/bbcmd hobbitd_alert --test ! We definitely need some more complex examples. Maybe someone who has a complex and varied hobbit-alerts.cfg can post some sanitized examples that someone can commit to SVN? Many thanks, SebA
