Hi all, I am redesigning the method we use for performing a failover to a disaster recovery installation of hobbit. I am interested in opinions on the approach and any shortcomings. Note: This is not HA/clustering, it is for DR purposes. We are aiming to have: a production hobbit deployment a DR hobbit deployment clients will be configured to send metrics to both servers. which will keep historical rrd data up to date etc. The production server will be configured to send out alerts. The dr server will not. At regular intervals, rsync will be used to synchronise data from the production server to the dr server, including the in memory checkpoint file. In the event of a dr, the dr hobbit server will be promoted to active by restarting hobbit, and loading the checkpoint and alert configurations. I am expecting that this will ensure that the dr server will be "up to date" with proudction as per the last checkpoint. This includes tests that have been disabled or acknowledged. Prior to failback to the production hobbit installation, the reverse of the above would be performed. An rsync of rrd data files would be performed to cover any windows where one of the servers was offline for a period of time. Is there anything wrong with this approach? removing a client from the ghostlist

Hi Hobbit users, If I run bb 127.0.0.1 ghostlist on my hobbit server, I get a list of hosts that are not defined in my bb-hosts file. If I then add a host into the bb-hosts file (actually, I first added it to an include file but adding it to the bb-hosts was the same), I would have expected the host to no longer show up un the ghostlist report. This does not seem to be the case, what am I doing wrong? If I restart hobbit, it goes away, but I don't want to have to do this if I don't need to. BBWin 0.11 Centralised Config problems

Hi All, I need a bit of assistance in setting up BBWin0.11 with Hobbit 4.3 in Centralised config mode. My problem lies with the eventlog monitoring of my Windows hosts. When running BBWin in local config mode, I can setup filtering so that only specific event log types get sent to the hobbit server and displayed on the msgs page. However when I configure BBWin to use a central config, I cant filter which event logs get sent to the hobbit server and displayed on the msgs page. As a result my msgs page is full of eventlog entries which I dont need to know about. Number of hosts being monitored

Hi people, What would be the best method of getting a list of all unique systems being monitored by hobbit? I first thought bbhostgrep might be useful but that will only return hosts for a specific test type of which there is none that applies to all systems. bbhostshow gives me the entire combined list, I could process this to extract all known hosts The other option would be to process the output of bb server hobbitdboard (e.g. | cut -f1 -d"|" | sort -u) Would anyone have a better solution? First off, I love Hobbit. A lot. I've been running it as a test in our department for almost 9 months now and I have convinced the boss to not renew the contract for our proprietary monitoring package (from a certain other Scandinavian country) in favor of using Hobbit. I just need to see if I can put donations on my corporate card. :) But I do have one last question after all of that effusion. Is anyone out there running dbcheck.pl and had this error: "Wed Jan 23 10:21:40 2008:ERROR on sid_name: Timeout connecting to DBI:Oracle:sid_name!" I know it isn't a network problem because the hobbit user can connect using sqlplus just fine and the oratns check is OK. The required Perl modules installed OK... I think. I have been using hobbit for over 3 years now and I LOVE IT... I have always just configured and ran it myself but now I am out of my realm on a couple questions.. I will just ask the first one for now... every time I reboot a server the hobbit server tells me for what seems like 10 times in an hour that the machine has been rebooted...ahhh! I only need one notification that the server had rebooted.. where do I find the config for that? IPv6 Support

Hobbit snapshot doesn't compile

Hi, I've grabbed the current snapshot of hobbit from http://www.hswn.dk/beta/. It won't compile, however, since apparently the signature of the sendmessage function has changed, but none of the calls to sendmessage have been adjusted. Does anybody have a recent snapshot that works (or at least compiles) or is there an ETA for a fix? Thanks, Rolf.
