Status re. renaming and my health-issue

To start with the eye-problems I've had, I am scheduled for surgery on Wednesday (Aug. 27). It's a relatively simple operation - I'll be out of the hospital the same day - but I cannot use my eyes normally for a few weeks after the operation. Meaning that I am not allowed to read, work with a computer, or drive a car for 2-4 weeks. So I'll be completely off-line during that period. Sorry, but that's the way it is. Now to the grand renaming debate. The last time I mentioned that I had another candidate, but I was waiting to see if the domain names were going to expire. Alas, they did not. The name I had in mind was "Sysdar", being short for "Systems Radar" - but phonetically also rather neat, since it brings in memories of "Big Sister" and hence "Big Brother". It didn't quite work out. That doesn't mean I'll scratch that idea completely - it's still a good name, and there are no trademark registrations or anything else indicating that the name is used at all, so we could just work it out with a different domain name (e.g. sysdar.eu or sysdar.dk). My favourite right now is G-lance. I've noted that HP has the "GlancePlus" software, but I hope that won't be a problem due to the explicit dash and therefore the very different pronounciation. "hobbitmon" and "hobbeat" are outsiders. I'd have to get an OK for those from the Tolkien lawyers, and I am a bit sceptical about them accepting either. Also, I think they are OK names for people who know what Hobbit is about - but they have no meaning what so ever to new users (or PHB's). Nothing's going to change (obviously) for the next few weeks, so feel free to voice opinions and/or come up with good ideas until then. Regards, Henrik

Hobbit integration into a portal ?

Hello, I'm working on a project that aims to "surface" Hobbit functionality through my Company's customer-facing portal, so that customers can monitor their own devices hosted in our data centres. We need to do it in a way that doesn't violate security. We need our Portal to send Hobbit some customer's parameters in a secure way, and retrieve the requested monitoring information, either in the form of directly displayable HTML pages, or in the form of (XML ?) data. One customer must not be able to manipulate the browser input to access other customers' monitors. Can't find host in bb-hosts. Please help?

I have a host "stfsvr1". It is clearly defined in bb-hosts. Devmon - Alert Color Question

Hi All, I know this is not the devmon list (I have sent there as well) but maybe others have run into this issue (or what I think is an issue). I have devmon setup and working correctly but have a situation that I don't know how to handle. Here is the situtation: 1. A new template for monitoring a Spectracom Netclock 9283 (NTP appliance) - I am running Hobbit 4.2.0 with all-in-one patch 2. Two branch (repeater) oids setup that go into a table for the message 3. There is 1 item in the branch of ntpTestName (GPS Antenna Sense) that I do not want included in the message or alerting, as it is always RED 4. I added an exception entry to remove GPS Antenna Sense (AND IT WORKED) 5. PROBLEM: The status page still shows RED even though GPS Antenna Sense is not displayed I need this page to show GREEN and not alert on GPS Antenna Sense but don't know how to remove that. Any help is appreciated. No Procs Graph?

Hi Folks, I am new to Hobbit and noticed that when you drill down to a device's procs information, there is no graph but the magnifying glass shows up as if a graph should be there. I've looked through so many man pages, wiki entries, FAQs, etc. trying to figure this out that my head is spinning! And when I go to the Hobbit demo site and drill down to http://hswn.dk/hobbit-cgi/bb-hostsvc.sh?HOST=voodoo.hswn.dk&SERVICE=procs and http://hswn.dk/hobbit-cgi/bb-hostsvc.sh?HOST=sarge&SERVICE=procs, the procs graphs don't show up there either. So, have I been wasting my time trying to make that graph work or is there some magical trick that a master is willing to reveal to me? Any/all help will be appreciated! Thanks! Ann

Strange Rule Matching Issue

Hello, I have a strange rule matching issue. I have a rule in my hobbit-alert file which looks like this: *HOST=* SERVICE=* MAIL $test COLOR=red REPEAT=10* The rule **SHOULD** only send when the disk (or any other service) reaches red color. I have disk defined in my hobbit-clients.cfg as: *DISK * 90 95 * I have a server that currently has a filesystem filled to 91%. The server name is 'stflnx1d'. I am getting the following emails: *yellow Wed Sep 3 08:52:24 EDT 2008 - Filesystems NOT ok &yellow /var (91% used) has reached the WARNING level (90%)* I ran the bin/hobbitd_alert and got the following: *00011596 2008-09-03 09:24:20 Matching host:service:page 'stflnx1d:disk:AIXDev' against rule line 138 00011596 2008-09-03 09:24:20 *** Match with 'MAIL $test COLOR=red REPEAT=10' *** 00011596 2008-09-03 09:24:20 Mail alert with command '/var/spool/mail/mrhobbit "Hobbit [12345] stflnx1d:disk CRITICAL (RED)" chris at xxxxx.com'* As you can see it matches the rule as RED even though I an the warning state of yellow for the disk on the server. It also sends me the email with Yellow status. It doesn't match any other rule. I tried setting the COLOR=yellow in the rule and it didn't match. Can anybody tell me why Hobbit thinks this is RED when it is really Yellow???? Thank You, -cs

( new to linux) On the local machine if I type http://localhost >> this shows me the default apache page If I type http://localhost/hobbit >> tells me the page is not found My installation of Hobbit is in /home/hobbit Help please.
