I am having some difficulty understanding the running of the daily, weekly, monthly reports. What do they show? How do you run them other than from the 'reports' web page pull-down? Where do you retrieve them - what URL or is it a spreadsheet for uploading? I found multiple files in the web directory - not sure what I have. Is there an executive view? I built my own report that runs every morning M-F both a long report (with details) and a short report for the blackberry. This is just a shell script I wrote using: BB=/home/xymon/server/bin/bb BBDISP=127.0.0.1 COLORS="red,yellow,blue" $BB $BBDISP "hobbitdboard color=$COLORS" to a Temp file I then add a first field for sorting the data (red-1, yellow=2, blue=3, etc.) I then check if the device has been ACKed or NOT and if it has been DISabled or NOT. For the long report I show the hobbit-alerts.cfg entries for contacting the appropriate people, etc. I also show how long the device has been down. These report are used by the managers to make sure that a device that is in a problem status is taken care of ASAP. They can also run the report at any time from the web pages and send it via Email. purple icons

Has anyone resolved the purple icon problem within Hobbit? Periodically throughout the day I receive servers that have purple alerting. I remotely view the server and see a "Route Error." Any Suggestions? Josh

I FINALLY found why some hosts are going purple. The issue is in hobbitd.c: if (strncmp(msg, "status+", 7) == 0) { validity = durationvalue(msg+7); } msg is something like: status+30 28512dbtst.conn green  Tue Feb 16 11:39:43 2010 conn ok durationvalue is parsing the duration as 28512 days and returning 28512 days in minutes which when later multiplied by 60 and added to "now" sets the valid time to a negative number. This happens with all hosts starting with a number but if the first char after the starting numbers isn't a m, h, d, or w then minutes looks to be assumed. Now to fix it...

I am running 4.3.0-0.beta2 on Cent OS 5.3 and 5.4. Hope this assists others in setting up Xymon. I have the holidays working and the date in the MM/DD format. Some how the hobbit-holidays.cfg file did not get copied over upon installation. I copied it over to the correct location (see below). I also found that you cannot have more than one space between the data pairs: e.g. =static month=99 day=88 or the line does not show. I also added the line to the top of bb-hosts: 0.0.0.0 .default. # holidays=us I also added the line to hobbitserver.cfg to fix the date format: HOLIDAYFORMAT="%m/%d" The question I have, is why when I select the 'info' icon do I get a listings of: Holidays 2009 (us) and another listing for Holidays 2010 (us)? There is only one location to set the holidays for the year in /home/xymon/server/etc/hobbit-holidays.cfg. So why do I get two columns with different headings? Is there a way to only show the current holiday year? Has anyone managed to get the client built under Snow Leopard? What I’m doing seems pretty straightforward, but the build fails. I run `./configure --client`, answer the questions, then `make` and it bombs. Sorry I answered this kind of late, but I was re-building our xymon server. I monitor who is logged in the citrix servers using the who and bb-win and it list all the sessions, and the usernames. Since it is a simple list it will not cause resource eating which you want to avoid since Citrix will also monitor the resources. Otherwise you could call the metric from the server since Citrix will add metrics to it. purple conn for one host

I have been going nuts trying to figure out why the conn test for one host of mine always goes purple. It will be purple for about 4 min then green for a few secs then purple again. But the whole time the status message is "Service conn on 28512dbtst is OK (up)" The name of the host is "28512dbtst". If I rename it to "dbtst" it stays green. But rename to "28512dbtst" and purple again. I rename to "x28512dbtst" and it stays green. So I am thinking maybe hobbit doesn't like a name starting with a number? I have another host "28512aptst" and that stays green. If I run bbtest-net from the command line the color will turn green for a second and then back to purple. It is almost like the automatic run of bbtest-net isn't updating the correct status for the color even though the message says it is up. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
