problem with xymon

Hi, I try to install xymon but when I add a new server in the hosts.cfg file the name of server and his ip address, this information don't appear in the xymon map. Please what is the file that I must modified for have the good hour and a good day in the page with the different alert. Best regards christophe

[Newbie] Smaller, lighter Xymon based program?

Hi guys, I'm very new to this Xymon-land, spent some time to install and configure Xymon on my virtual machine runs CentOS 6.3 Here's my thought, since I have very limited skill in this monitoring field, my target is only to have a program which can test the 'ping' only. Is that doable if I can use Xymon and disable some of the functions? Has anyone ever think about this before? Maybe some hint or guides, thanks! Btw, I'm working on this as my school project, hopefully I didn't break/offend anyone's work and copyright, if so, please let me know. Many thanks :D -- Best, James

Cleaning up history logs

What does Xymon check to determine if my history logs directory is full? After several months of not paying any attention to Xymon, I dove back in. I found that I was getting "Historical Status Log Not Avaialable". Some browsing around showed that if the log directory has less than 5% disk space available, the logs will not be written. I "df -i /home/xymon/data/histlog" directory and it was (and still) is showing 4% used. Unsure what to get rid of, I deleted everything I could find in the data directory that related to old hosts that do not exist. After doing so, log files were now available. Obviously, there was a disk space problem, but where was it? This is just a demo system so I wasn't too worried about doing such a destructive deletion of everything, however, if this were a production system I'd want to be a lot more careful as to what it is that I delete. newline character needed for "xymon" command?

A bug maybe? I have a custom perl script that is called by clientlaunch that runs some tests. I am calling the xymon via system and passing the arguments for the alert. As an example: system("/home/xymon/client/bin/xymon 127.0.0.1 \"status+1h myhost.mycolumn yellow My stauts message\""); When the command runs, everything seems fine. Until I drill down into the history. When I go into the "Historical Status" screen for an alert, the status message is crammed in with the "unchanged in" line on the page. It looks like: *** My status messageStatus unchanged in 0.00 minutes Status message recived from 1.1.1.1 Client data available *** It doesn't happen on the main alert pages, only in the Historical Status pages. What I did to fix it, was to put a newline character at the end of all of my messages: system("/home/xymon/client/bin/xymon 127.0.0.1 \"status+1h myhost.mycolumn yellow My stauts message\n\""); The newline corrects the formatting on the alert message and it displays property, however, I'm not sure this should be like this. Is the newline character supposed to be necessary?

While that went fine on the Ubuntu 12.04 server, it doesn't work on the CentOS 5 server. I got the xymon client.rpm from some website and it just doesn't recognize this file no matter where I put it. The version is 4.3.10. the client is installed in these directories: /etc/xymon-client /usr/libexec/xymon-client /usr/share/xymon-client I also noticed that there's no /var/lib/xymon-client directory. The Ubuntu version was installed via apt-get and still has "hobbit" naming. On CentOS client I renamed all the "hobbit" into "xymon". If I put the pass into the script itself - it works.
