Problem with NOTICE rule in alerts.cfg

I noticed that the xymon_alerts docs show there is a NOTICE keyword which is described as: NOTICE Rule matches if the message is a "notify" message. This type of message is sent when a host or test is disabled or enabled. I wanted to be alerted via a custom SMS script of any test as soon as it is enabled or disabled. So in the alerts.cfg file I had initially set up a line that I thought would trigger whenever a test was enabled or disabled like so: HOST=* SCRIPT $xymon-sms-alert $waaphone TIME=$smsalerthours FORMAT=SMS NOTICE As I was testing enabling and disabling, it appeared that I had gotten the syntax correct and I was off to the next thing. However, when a normal test went yellow, I received two SMS alerts for it. My logs shows that the CFID environment variable was showing that my new alert listed above was triggering the SMS as well as the PAGE=%firewalls/* alert that was supposed to trigger it. I then tried NOTICE SCRIPT $xymon-sms-alert $waaphone TIME=$smsalerthours FORMAT=SMS as well as NOTICE=* SCRIPT $xymon-sms-alert $waaphone TIME=$smsalerthours FORMAT=SMS and finally HOST=* NOTICE SCRIPT $xymon-sms-alert $waaphone TIME=$smsalerthours FORMAT=SMS But it seems that ANY status change including normal green, yellow, red, purple triggers this alert as well as any other correctly matching alert. xymon e-mail alerts show up as attachments instead of e-mail

Not a wild thought. Yes you are correct. I was getting ready to post my findings. We recently moved our xymon server from fedora core 3 to SLES 11. Fedora used mail and SLES 11 mail is linked to mailx. The windows clients are sending carriage returns in the status ^M (carriage return). The problem occured on SuSe server but not on redhat server, because mailx expects input text to be in Unix format, with lines separated by *newline*(^J, \n) characters only. Non-Unix text files that use *carriage return* (^M, \r) characters in addition will be treated as binary data. Hence the reason we get notifications that show up as attachments. Hi! I'm currently going to setup some "cloud" infrastructure as a training platform to get a deeper insight into very recent developments, like nested virtualization, storage failover and a lot of IPv6. Since my fellow hobbit did very well over the last couple of years, I'ld really like to stay with xymon. My question targets the proposed IPv6 capabilities in the upcoming release. Is it worth to give a try to the code in trunk? Or is it too early for resiliant statements? Also, should I expect big configuration differences between 4.3.10 and the cutting edge? ISO documentation on flapping status?

Error compiling Xymon Client in client mode

Hi, I'm trying to compile to compile the Xymon client in client mode (configuration files on the client). I'm using xymon 4.3.10. I'm compiling on ubuntu lucid with pcre and pcre-dev installed. I'm stuck at the build of xymond_client, where it needs xymonclient.a but there is no rule to build it. RRD Graph stopped graphing

I had two custom RRD graphs setup and running fine on client systems. The script that collects the data was running every minute. After I finished testing, I changed the frequency of the scripts on the clients to 1 hour in the clientlaunch.cfg file. When I did, the RRD graph stopped displaying data. It ran like this for a couple days. I changed clientlaunch.cfg back to 1 minute... and the graphs immediately started graphing again. Is there a minimum time frame that is needed, or something else that must be done? What am I missing? -- Michael Beatty

Stack Graphs with SPLITNCV data

Hi all Has anybody managed to create a stack graph with SPLITNCV data? How do we configure it? Once upon a time, I authored this http://www.xymonton.org/monitors:memstat But it had graphing problems if you didn't have ZFS running. (One field less than the RRD graph config required.) In the ToDo section, I promised to have a look at using SPLITNCV. So I am looking into it now, but struggling. To do a STACK graph, the first entry has to be AREA, and the rest need to be STACK. Configuring the RRD graph with SPLITNCV, applies the same graph type to each data set. How do we get the first to be AREA, and the rest STACK? Any assistance appreciated. Alerting on the existence of a file with wildcards

I've successfully tested monitoring for the appearance of a statically defined file (i.e. no wildcards), and have been happy with the result. I'm now tasked with trying to alarm on the appearance of file where only part of the filename will be static, hence the need for wildcards. I'm at the point where the presence of a file causes a green condition, and the removal of that file causes a white condition. The custom is to include these things as text. Images are generally frowned up on a mailing list. Generally, just where the last few lines of the error are will suffice. They are also causing people to have trouble replying because of size limits. You are looking in the wrong place now for the lib files. Libs are generally files ending in .so or .so.# or sometimes .sl depending on the OS. Those are not in the include directory. You can see where they are the same way.
