Hi, I am planing to reconfigure xymon to send me an alert if a Server is going down. Actually I am getting alerts for every service that is down but if a Server crashs, of course there are more than one service that switch to red. To get 6 SMS because 1 Server is down is a waste of money. Is there a chance to configure xymon like this in the alerts to get only 1 alert if a Server goes down? Returning configuration information to the clients

I've been doing research into the communications protocol used by Xymon and her clients. I am using the Windows PowerShell client found here: http://sourceforge.net/p/xymon/code/HEAD/tree/sandbox/WinPSClient/ I've read a man page for bb: http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/hardy/man1/hobbit.1.html QUOTE: " config FILENAME Retrieve one of the Hobbit configuration files from the server. This command allows a client to pull files from the $BBHOME/etc/ directory on the server, allowing for semi-automatic updates of the client configuration. Since the configuration files are designed to have a common file for the configuration of all hosts in the system - and this is in fact the recommended way of configuring your clients - this makes it easier to keep the configuration files synchronized." Using this information, I was able to execute this command. PS> XymonSend "config client-local.cfg" "<xymon_server_name>" . on a Windows server, inside a PowerShell window, and the entire, unedited 'client-local.cfg' file was displayed on screen. This is good. Then I read the following in the Client-Local.cfg man page: http://xymon.sourceforge.net/xymon/help/manpages/man5/client-local.cfg.5.htm l QUOTE: "The client-local.cfg file resides on the Xymon server. When clients connect to the Xymon server to send in their client data, they will receive part of this file back from the Xymon server. The configuration received by the client is then used the next time the client runs." It sounds like the Xymon server will accept a status message from the client, then parse the message for OS type, host name, etc. then parse the client-local.cfg file and find the lines that are applicable to the client (based upon OS type, host name, etc.) and return those to the client. None of my clients are receiving a response from the Xymon server containing configuration data. I've tried to construct some messages to simulate an upload from a linux host, a win32 host, and a hp-ux hosts (all of which have entries in client-local.cfg), but I never get a reply containing configuration data from the Xymon server. Can someone tell me what should be happening and how to simulate it? Thank you very much for your time and assistance. ~Greg

Alert dependencies

Hi, is it possible to define dependencies for alerts? I saw following problem. If Router X is down all Services behind that router will be notified. That's very annoying and I want to prevent that. Notifying me, that Router X is down is enough. Same for host connections. If a host is down I just want to get the host down alert. Furthermore is there a feature like "don't notifiy me if host/Service was red in <period>"? I did not found suitable options for that so far. I hope you can help me out. Hobbit Server Overload Due To Windows Event Logs

We experimented and only seemed able to achieve this by deleting the: <load name="msgs" value="msgs.dll"/> line and the entire "<msgs> ...</msgs>" stanza from the local BBWin.cfg. We thought we had a recipe for success on the rest of our Windows clients but when we started trying to make it work on two other boxes, we found that the "procs" and "timediff" tests went purple! We experimented by putting parts of the <msgs> ... stanza back in but we found that (apparently) the client data was not making it back to the server from the client after the mods. So - we got it working on our test box, but on two other "live" boxes it failed and interfered with other tests. This is a hot item for us since our Hobbit server is being overwhelmed by incoming data, in large part coming from these huge Windows event logs. Thanks! alarms and recoveries

Hi, I'd like to ask your help, what would suggest to my situation. I'm trying to set up xymon to send alarms to netcool. HOST=%wmail.*.xyz.net COLOR=red,yellow,purple EXSERVICE=ports,procs,msgs SCRIPT /etc/xymon/send_alarm.sh "WMAIL" FORMAT=plain RECOVERED When disk is getting full, it sends a warning at warning level. Then i was decreasing free space, it hit the PANIC level, alarm became critical. Then I made some space, to clear the alarms and lets see what happens. When it recovered, I only got recovery for critical alarm, but for the netcool, I need to send a recovery also to the WARNING alarm. Is this possible to do this by default, or I need to develop a script for it? Like when sending recovery to CRITICAL, send a recovery also to the MAJOR alarm? Thanks!

Problem with xymon on cgi on Ubuntu 14.04

I get the following error when I press the http column header on the xymon display on localhost or press on the red http on the line for the xymon server... The rest is running fine after the changes for the 2.2->2.4 apache... update to AIX client script

Hi, In the older version of the AIX client script, the df command was modified so it uses the filtered output of the mount command to only include local filesystems. This is removed in the newer client.
