Xymon Client Masquerade IP Address Reported

Hello, I am a fairly new user to the Xymon monitoring tool, and I am working in an unusual environment. In this environment, the Xymon server lives outside of a NATed private IP environment, which contains all of the clients. So, of course, the clients report private IPs to the server, which are then registered in hosts.cfg. The problem is that I do not have access to change the settings on the server, because it is not managed by me, and the IPs listed in our monitoring dashboard are unreachable, since the server would use NATed public IPs to reach the clients. Does anyone know of a way to force the Xymon client to report a specific IP address, especially one which may not actually be present on the host? I went through the docs, and didn't see an obvious way to make this happen, with most of the relevant advice suggesting aliasing multiple IPs to one client, on the Xymon server side, which I can't do, in this case. downtime globally

I've been using old BB 1.08 and now XYMon, I'm trying to migrate downtime rules but I am not very successful with it. The test that I need NOT reporting on weekends are NOT network tests, they are custom ALC that written on the agent folder and forwarded to the xymon server. Can I only use Downtime for Network tests? matrix of hosts

Hi, i have access to an old BB installation (i think it's bbc1.9e) which groups consecutively numbered hosts into a matrix, see attached image. The bb-hosts file, which corresponds to hosts.cfg in Xymon, contains: group-only 1|2|3|4|5|6|7|8|9|10|11|12|13|14|15|16 nodes 0.0.0.0 row-1 # noconn 0.0.0.0 row-2 # noconn 0.0.0.0 row-3 # noconn 0.0.0.0 row-4 # noconn 0.0.0.0 row-5 # noconn A single individual cell in the matrix corresponds to the given client, and when clicked presents a single page summary of client data, e.g. disk, cpu. For example: 16/row-1 corresponds the node number 16, 1/row-2 to the node number 17, etc. I've spent some time looking in the configuration and googling, but can't figure out how this is configured. Is something like that possible in Xymon (4.3.21), and if so how? Marcin

Brothers, currently I’m building a fronted for the various query-commands that can be sent to `xymond`. It is still in it’s early stages but I found myself using it daily already. So others may benefit too. It’s named `xymonq` (“xymon query”). Two examples may give a basic idea: 1. Get a list of hosts on page `dc1`: Traditionally this looks like this: $ xymon 127.0.0.1 "xymondboard page=dc1 test=info fields=hostname" With xymonq $ xymonq -P dc1 -L 2. CLIENTHOSTNAME and hosts that use FQHNs as their hostname

Is CLIENTHOSTNAME still supported? My group was asked to start managing some systems in our organization; we discovered that they use FQHNs as their "hostname". (No idea why) I want them to report in to the Xymon server (4.3.12 on RHEL 6.3) with the short name instead. Strangely, on their 2 Debian Squeezy 6.0.6 systems with Xymon 4.3.0beta2, enabling CLIENTHOSTNAME works fine. But the rest of their systems (all but one) are CentOS 5.8-5.11 and with xymon-client-4.3.17-1.el5.centos RPMs installed, enabling CLIENTHOSTNAME in "/etc/sysconfig/xymon-client" apparently has no effect. They all show up as Ghost Clients. The temp files written to "/dev/shm" are msg.<FQHN>.txt xymon_vmstat.<FQHN>.<pid> logfetch.<FQHN>.cfg etc. I've got CLIENTHOSTNAME set: [root at endeavour ~]# grep ^CLIENT /etc/sysconfig/xymon-client CLIENTHOSTNAME="endeavour" I tried manually adding "--hostname=<short name>" to the arguments and got /usr/sbin/xymonlaunch: Unsupported argument: --hostname=endeavour On the server side I tried adding the "CLIENT:<short name>" keyword: [root at xymonserver xymon]# grep endeavour hosts.cfg 192.168.1.100 endeavour CLIENT:endeavour # ssh 192.168.1.100 endeavour CLIENT:endeavour # noconn (I also tried putting it after the "#" - hey guys, a sample "hosts.cfg" file with some of the optional features/keywords wouldn't hurt, y'know.) I suppose the workaround for the problem can be - rewrite shell script calling df. 1) call df ... command a) in background b) redirecting output to some temp-file c) saving child process PID to variable 2) checking in loop the process still running if still running (can check with ps command) then sleep for 1 sec. or so and go to next check iteration if not running - exit loop and check the output if count of checks (iterations) more then N (defined in configuration), then end checking - raise the red status for disk 3) df is called twice - for space and for inodes - then implement it as shell function Best regards, Andrey Chervonets ---------------------- SIA CoMinder http://www.cominder.eu/

Hello, I'm running a xymon-client on a Debian Jessie. OS: Debian OS-Release: 8 (Jessie) xymon-client version : 4.3.17 The error happend due to a nfs ressource not responding. I suppose that as xymon launch "df" to get information and as the nfs was hanging, the xymon-client is no able to detect that the df hangs and it does not send any data to the server. Worst, the xymon-client is not verbose at all, it does not tell this test (df) takes too long to accomplish. Many thanks for xymon. Regards. Cédric BRINER

Errors for acknowledge alerts in 4.3.18

Hello, I just upgraded from 4.2.3 to 4.3.18, and we are getting errors when acknowledging alerts. I saw other people wrote to the list with similar problems, but I didn't really see a solution (or I just missed it.) So I apologize in advance for the duplicate question. Any help would be appreciated. This is the error we see in the web interface: The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, xxxx at xxx.xxx and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. DS anomaly

I set up a DS alert, which works very well except for one minor detail. No matter what I do, a lone double quote shows up in the alert message. For example, here's the analysis.cfg line: DS name conn.rrd:value >1.0 COLOR=red TEXT="Connect exceeds alert level" ...resulting in this display line: "Connect exceeds alert level DS name conn.rrd:value >1.0 COLOR=red "TEXT=Connect exceeds alert level" ...resulting in this display line: "Connect exceeds alert level DS name conn.rrd:value >1.0 COLOR=red TEXT=Connect" exceeds alert level" ...resulting in this display line: Connect" exceeds alert level For reference, I'm on Unix using Xymon 4.3.12 still. If this was problem related to this version and has been fixed, please let me know. Otherwise, any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! David
