Hi, I am getting email alerts from xymon and I think it is using the default "TEXT" format. Is there any way to change this. Anyone having a quick pointer. Temperature graphs

I've got a couple snmp tests and I'm trying to graph their output. I tried putting in my own rrd script to collect the data, but there seems to be a built-in one overriding mine. So, I tried to format my test output to work with that, but I'm just getting rrd files that lack any data. The main line of the test is like this: &green Routing Engine Temperature 43 It causes the creation of a file like this: /var/lib/hobbit/rrd/<hostname>/temperature.Routing_Engine_Temperature.rrd When I use "rrdtool dump" I still get data like this and an empty graph.  <row><v>NaN</v></row>  <row><v>NaN</v></row> If someone knows the correct format for temperature tests, I'd be set. Also, we've got snmp collecting memory data for some equipment that we'd like to override internal graphing on specific hosts if that can be done. Reformatting output on that may be a bit harder. The obvious answer is to change the test names for our custom ones, but my boss is very opposed to creating new columns in xymon. Thanks, Dave Fogarty -- Senior System Administrator CollegeNET.com

rpm for opensuse

Hello, I have been using xymon on ubuntu for years and I am very happy with it. Recently I have to install xymon for opensuse-13.2, and could not find a suitable rpm for it. I am considering the following options: (1) build and install from source (2) build from sources, install using checkinstall to keep the rpm (3) build the rpm using OBS (build.opensuse.org) What is the least painful option? I have no experience with rpm/deb building Another question is which version is recommended for a long-term installation? Is there such a thing as stable and development version for xymon? Xymon number of tests limit

Hi, I know my question might sound weird, but I need it to be answered. I have a plan to set up Xymon for more than 10000 unique tests and I need to know: can Xymon server handle it without any significant lag? Of course I understand that more or less it should be the machine's on which Xymon is running recources / parameters that have to be kept in mind. xymon, xymon-rclient and md5sum checks

This is a brand new installation of Xymon (4.3.21) and I'm trying to use xymon-rclient (0.6) to get some readings on a box where we're not allowed to run the Xymon client. My hosts.cfg has this line: 10.6.16.24 server2 # conn "RCLIENT:cmd(ssh -T root@%{H}),ostype(sunos),env(MD5=/usr/local/bin/md5sum)" My analysis.cfg has: HOST=%^server FILE /etc/.sudoers.local red md5=3478c3977fd53a9de552bf1545595b31 PORT "LOCAL=%(.80|.443)$" STATE=LISTEN col=yellow TEXT=HTTP PROC xntpd col=red My client-local.cfg (on the Xymon server) has: [server2] file:/etc/.sudoers.local:md5 All the tests are working fine (cpu/disk/procs/ports etc) but the md5 on /etc/.sudoers.local is failing. The Xymon status says: /etc/.sudoers.local File has MD5 hash (No MD5 data) - should be 3478c3977fd53a9de552bf1545595b31 So it looks like it's not being read/checksummed. [xymon] Performance issue

Hello, I'm using XYMON 4.3.12 to monitore ~1000 Windows and ~1000 UNIX. I have one xymon proxy dedicated to each type of OS. One Windows and an other UNIX. XYMON server and proxy are running on Solaris 10 zones. I currently have issue on the main XYMON server, during high activity time windows: - The number of connections in the state CLOSE_WAIT (netstat ; port 1984) is increasing on the main server until it reach ~2014, then the xymon is nearly to crash (no more web windows update, false alerts etc.). Only the windows proxy has also an increase of CLOSE_WAIT but 4 times less than on the server. - In the main XYMON logs (whatever it is), I see this messages: 2015-06-07 03:20:11 Whoops ! Failed to send message (timeout) 2015-06-07 03:20:11 -> 2015-06-07 03:20:11 -> Recipient '<main XYMON server IP>', timeout 15 2015-06-07 03:20:11 -> 1st line: 'combo' 2015-06-07 03:20:16 Flushed 2 stale messages for 0.0.0.0:0 2015-06-07 03:20:18 Flushed 1 stale messages for 0.0.0.0:0 - The xymond test shows that the Incoming Messages rate is limited to 150msg/s. - High activity is correlated with BBWin.cfg update. I'm using BBWin in local mode with the bbwinupdate feature. The BBWin config files are stored on the XYMON server and downloaded/checked by the BBWin agent. Parameters that seems to have effects: xymonserver.cfg MAXMSGSPERCOMBO (on the proxy, should be low) tasks.cfg timeout of xymond and xymonproxy set to the possible lower: 5mn xymongen => INTERVAL changed from 1m to 2m These actions seem still not to have enough effect. Bug or feature?

Hello everybody, i want to know if the following is a bug or a feature: I have a client (Ubuntu 9.10) running Xymon 4.3.7, reporting it's results to our Xymon server running Xymon 4.3.11. The client has a script in /opt/xymon/ext that is beeing kicked off once a working day in the week at 04:45 am. This is configured by a CRONDATE statement in clientlaunch.cfg. The script is reporting it's result to the Xymon server using a status lifetime of 1d (status +1d). The above is working. Now we had the situation, that this test has gone to status "red". The problem behind that wasn't a real problem, it was due to a bank holiday and not a real problem. Nevertheless I have disabled this particular test until 5 minutes beyond the next run-time of that test; it has been disabled until 4:50 am of the next day. When I checked this the next day at 08:30h, this test still was at "blue" (disabled) - I expected, that this should either be "green" or any other than "blue". When I clicked into that test I could see, that "inside" it showed the "new" test result as "green", but the test page was "blue". Hope my explanation of the situation is a bit understandeable..... Is the above a bug? Or did I do something wrong? windows event log

Hey folks, Having a major brain fart right now. How would I get Xymon to go red when a specific event ID on a Windows servers is detected in the event log? I am using the PowerShell client so the VM is in a central mode. I have played around in analysis.cfg and client-local.cfg but haven't been able to get it down to a specific ID. Xymon graphing from devmon - different template, same check name

Hi, I would have perhaps asked in the Devmon mailing list but my question is quite pertinent to Xymon too and this mailing list is a little more active with many using Devmon. I have a check, it's called temp. I have a Devmon template for an IBM UPS device and I have a template for an IBM PDU device. Both have a temp check for reading temperature and humidity. The IBM UPS template has existed for a while and has been displaying temp graphs. I have temp=ncv, temp in GRAPHS and an entry in graphs.cfg and xymonserver.cfg. What happens when you introduce a temp check to a new device that has a different template? Do you have to create an extra line in graphs.cfg/Xymonserver.cfg? Is it the same name? ie do I have to use NCV_temp=temperature:GAUGE (temperature being what is parsed from message file of template) for template 1 (IBM UPS) and NCV_temp=pdutemperature:GAUGE (pdutemperature being what is parsed from message file of template) for template 2 (IBM PDU) OR Do I have to use a different check/column name for each use of temperature per device? I might use Devmon for temperature/Humidity readings on a UPS device, or a PDU, or a server, or a network device and the templates I use in Devmon will be completely different. In which case I would have to use temppdu for example in xymonserver.cfg/Graphs.cfg alongside the existing temp Hopefully my question is clear, thanks Steve
