suppressing msgs alert

How do I suppress a msgs alert status for a particular client in 4.3.28? Ive tried #nomsgs in the hosts.cfg entry. I've also tried NOCOLUMNS:msgs But both of them make no difference - the msgs alert is still showing . I want nothing there at all :-) cheers ian

migrating xymon

I would think that if you didn't already have xymon on the new server, it'd just be a matter of making a tarball of the xymon home directory including data and configuration files, copying it to the new system, extracting it in the appropriate place, and making the manual changes. But with both already running, it's not an upgrade, it's a merge. Testing alert scripts

What's the best way to test an alert script? It runs as expected when I run it by hand and feed it the same argument that it should get from Xymon but when called by Xymon, it doesn't seem to work properly and I'm not able to get any debug out in the logs. thanks =G=

If the versions of your software don't have those options, I don't know. You may want to mention what version of Xymon you are running and what OS it's running on. My systems are running the latest Linux and Xymon from Terabithia with the requisite dependencies. can you use patterns in EXHOST ?

In analysis.cfg I have a CLASS=linux section that works fine. Fine for *our* hosts - the ones we built. Now I have to monitor a whole datacenter of other linux boxes that do not adhere to *our* standards. I added the new linux boxes into Xymon with longname ( host.yyy.xxx ) - my hosts are all shortname. Please tell me how I can exclude every linux host ending in yyy.xxx from CLASS=linux. It is not really practical to list 150 hosts by LONGname in EXHOST. Fingers crossed that this is possible! Bakkies

HOST regex

I'm having trouble getting a regex going for hostnames in analysis.cfg I've got machines iadncmds1 through iadncmds6 and iadccmds1 through iadncmds9 and a couple other machines, all should/will have the same things to look at (ports, procs, etc). I've tried the following: HOST=%iad(ncm|ccm)ds(1-9),apancmdsd1,iadncmdsd2 HOST=%iad(ncm|ccm)ds\d,apancmdsd1,iadncmdsd2 HOST=%iad(ncm|ccm)ds.*,apancmdsd1,iadncmdsd2 HOST=%iad(ncm|ccm)ds(.*),apancmdsd1,iadncmdsd2 Any help here? Hey, Is there any way to have the SCRIPT type recipient take more than 2 args? I need to be able to feed the script itself more than just the recipient...although, it occurs to me, I might be able to cheat by feeding it that inside a string with a separator. Anyone ever tried to do this? thanks =G=

How to calculate CPU Load Average

If you would like to auto calculate CPU load based on cores, there is a script posted to xymonton.org that can do that: https://wiki.xymonton.org/doku.php/monitors:cpu-load-calc Yes, a little self promotion as I wrote it, but its working well in our environment and should do the trick for what you are trying to do.
