If anyone has been having issues with bbgen logging this error mesage on Solaris 10 and intermittently failing, resulting in blank status pages, then I think I have found a workaround. If you disable TCP fusion be adding the following kernel parameter to /etc/system and reboot, hopefully you will find that the problem goes away. set ip:do_tcp_fusion = 0 Apparently this can be done on a live system as well (without rebooting), but will require hobbit to be restarted. To do this: echo do_tcp_fusion/W0 | mdb -kw TCP fusion is only used on local loopback connections to speed them up by bypassing the normal TCP stack. I found that the problem only occured when connecting to hobbitd locally. I tried running "bb localhost hobbitdboard" once a second, and found it would often return no data, but if I ran the same command from another host to the hobbit server, it always returned correct data. This made me suspect TCP fusion, as I have run into issues with it before. It it is best left disabled in my opinion.

Monitoring of MS Exchange

Hello Hobbits and friends, is there anybody out there who is monitoring MS Exchange servers with Hobbit? Unfortunately I have no skills in VB-scripting, nor knowledge of MS-Exchange in what is worth to monitor and how to do it. Any help/hint is very much appreciated! Regards Johann

BBWin Centralization mode and laptops

Hi All, Here's a thought for the Centralization server and laptops... If a laptop is on a LAN (directly or via VPN) then it will successfully report to the BBWin client running in Centralization mode, however if it is remote (home, on the road, whatever) then it will be unable to see the Centralization server, so it will not have its status reported to Hobbit. This is an issue. Sure, this *could* be addresses by the laptop sending data to both the Centralization server and the Hobbit server, but this negates the benefits of the Centralization server - lowering Internet bandwidth. What would be better is to be able to configure the BBWin client on the laptop to be able to connect directly to the Hobbit server ONLY if the connection to the Centralization server fails. Hi all, How can I use BBWIN to monitor a application logfile which is not the EVENT log ? I found the bb-logchecker.pl script on deadcat but the windows machine does not have perl installed. BR Thomas

Depends tag for files

Hobbities.... I'm trying to setup a depend tag for files so that the files check would depend on another server being up, this is useful to us as we need in the first instance to make sure a directory exists on a set of servers, but don't want it in the second instance to alert if the server is down, rather go white as it's a depend. Any ideas. Hey, I know I'm just missing something simple and it's probably something I've overlooked but I'm having an issue with a regex in one of my port tests... This works: PORT "LOCAL=%[\.:](8611|8621|8631)$" state=LISTEN But this doesn't... PORT "LOCAL=%[\.:]86?1$" state=LISTEN I'm hoping fresh eyes will see what stupid thing I've missed... =G=

Hobbit client cosmetic bug

Hello Henrik, In Hobbit 4.2 there is a comestic bug in ~hobbit/client/bin/hobbitclient- linux.sh. This script parses on what Linux-release Hobbit is running. echo "[osversion]" ...[snip]... elif [ -f /etc/SuSE-release ]; then grep ^SuSE /etc/SuSE-release ...[snip]... This produces the right output on Suse 9.1: SuSE Linux 9.1 (i586) VERSION = 9.1 But on SLES9, the file contains SUSE in uppercase. # cat /etc/SuSE-release SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 (i586) VERSION = 9 PATCHLEVEL = 3 Of course this can easily be solved with a grep -i. hobbitdxboard - Should xboard honor the fields= definition ?

All, I am playing with hobbitdboard & hobbitdxboard. Should the hobbitdxboard honor the fields= definition like hobbitdboard does ? In my testing I have found that it does not. Most desireable would be to choose to have the full log msg listed. thank you, ~Steve
