DATE="/usr/xpg4/bin/date" does not work on solaris . The %s format is NOT supported. Hello all I have read the section that describes "If e-mail is not enough" that talks about sending an SMS message or something else but there is no explanation of what generates the actual connection. There is a reference to "/usr/local/bin/smsalert" but this does not exist. Do I have to first find, install, and configure some sort of SMS alert program? If so, can someone suggest one? Also, can Hobbit send a page to a traditional paging carrier? If so, how is that done? Thanks kevin

clients-local.cfg question

I seem to be having a problem understanding clients-local.cfg. Is it not possible for a host to match multiple entries in clients-local.cfg? I have this currently: bb-hosts: .... 192.168.1.2 test # class=app clients-local.cfg: [sunos] log: /var/adm/message:10240 [app] file:/home/test/app/app.log hobbit-clients.cfg: DEFAULT .... CLASS=app FILE /home/test/app/app.log RED size<150000 I would think that this would result in the client checking the logfile size at /home/test/app/app.log. However, looking at the logfetch results on the client, I can see that it is not picking up the file config from clients-local. If I move the "file" statement to [sunos], it works fine. Two Hobbit Servers -- Works, but having a Minor Problem

Thanks for the Assistance, I now have Two Hobbit Servers going with paging disabled on one, but the clients reporting to both servers. I do have one problem, and I can't figure out why it's doing this. I wrote a test to execute on the server only, and placed it in hobbitlaunch.cfg. It works great on the primary server. However, when it runs on the second server, it does not come up, instead the test is reported on the other server. I did a check of the script and it is sending it to the second server: $BB $BBDISP "$LINE" I did an echo statement of $BBDISP in the script and stored it to a file, when it runs on the second server, $BBDISP is the IP address of the second server, but the output ends up going to the Primary Server. (If I got to the main view, I see the test, and the data directory has it in there. However, the second server has no data for the test in it) Any ideas? Thanks...James

hobbit-clients.cfg LOG problem

Hi All, I'm trying to configure log file monitoring in hobbit-clients.cfg and am having trouble with the ignore syntax. This line (in the DEFAULT section) works for me: LOG %.* %NOTICE|ERROR|OFFLINE|failed COLOR=yellow IGNORE=%compression Status goes yellow on the matching strings and ignores "compression." If I try to add multiple strings to the IGNORE statement, it breaks -- it still turns yellow correctly, but nothing is ignored. I've tried the following to no avail: LOG %.* %NOTICE|ERROR|OFFLINE|failed COLOR=yellow IGNORE=%compression|nis_bind_broadcast LOG %.* %NOTICE|ERROR|OFFLINE|failed COLOR=yellow IGNORE=%(compression|nis_bind_broadcast) LOG %.* %NOTICE|ERROR|OFFLINE|failed COLOR=yellow IGNORE=%"compression|nis_bind_broadcast" LOG %.* %NOTICE|ERROR|OFFLINE|failed COLOR=yellow IGNORE="%compression|nis_bind_broadcast" Version is 4.2.0. [hobbit] out of inodes

I think solaris (by default) doesn't allocate nearly enough inodes as (for example) ext3 inder linux. I recall dealing with inode issues under solaris 6 and 7 for an email server. I agree- a royal pain...... Hobbit never deletes history-logs by itself. You can use the "trimhistory" utility to remove old logfiles, or you can just setup a simple "find /home/hobbit/data/histlogs -mtime +90 | xargs rm" cronjob to wipe all history-logs older than 90 days (or whatever you prefer). These are generated by the hobbit network testing and I don't need to see them at the server. I'd like to key on the " tsm: 3004-035" string. [hobbit] How do I debug a hobbit client?

Interesting. The failure was an incomplete pass at cut & pase update of the clientlaunch.cfg. As a result, I had multiple [client] stanzas. I'm assuming that only the last one got launched, and it's a quick-running test that leaves no tracks on the client. Now to work on my centralized "I don't care" rules . . . What it is to do for unix compatibility? /bin/sh on your box is actual bash I think. I bet if you look its a link to /bin/bash ! ON most unix (not linux) systems /bin/sh is bourne shell; if you're lucky its a posix compliant one. Your scripts will not run correctly on such systems. As a matter of fact bash, version 2.03.0(1) will NOT work While: bash, version 2.05.0(1) Will work. So not only are they bash dependent but bash version depended! Ok I LOOKED at some of the other script and found that the date command is linux/gnu date not the date solaris uses. No problem for me since I have gnu date.
