AIX 51 ML07 bug

I have found a bug with AIX ML07 (not with the Hobbit code) on the operating system side. In the code hobbitclient-aix.sh, the line: netstat -an | grep "^tcp" gets caught in an infinite loop grep'ing a MAC. The program continues until the file system fills or until I am alerted for a purple condition and I correct the condition. I modified the line to this: netstat -an | grep "^tcp" | tail -5000 and it seems to fix it. I haven't heard anyone complain of this condition. It appears to happen only on AIX 5.1 ML07. hobbitfetch loop?

I noticed that my hobbitfetch process had hung. It was consuming all available CPU. I ran strace for a while and saw no activity, so I tried killing the process, and saw this... Missing primary oid data - DEVMON

Hello, When I am using DEVMON, somtimes my cisco switches get overloaded and wont return the oid data correctly. When this happens I check the hobbit web page and it says : Missing primary oid data This alarms "RED", I dont want to alarm on this, how can I fix this??? I just want it to alarm "clear" ... I dont want to totally ignore these alarms, but I dont want them to alarm red. I have tried using the "_AUTOMATCH_" field in the thresholds file and everything... any ideas??? thanks, michael -- Michael A. Hobbit for very large server installation

I am evaluating Hobbit for monitoring a network infrastructure with 3000+ servers. Do you have any hobbit screen shots for such large implementations? How 'Status "at a glance" ' can be achieved with hobbit for large number of servers? I am not new to bigbrother or Hobbit, but my maximum install base so far is only about 200 servers. Bb-hosts unmanageable

Hi Would it be possible to 1) Split bb-hosts into "hobbit-tests" (test config) and "hobbit-display" (display structure, use names given is hobbit-tests). Keep bb-hosts as fallback... (We do testing by ip so that we can rename our targets with **descriptive names** in bb-hosts and also monitor the network during dns-failures. Not all IPv4 devices have a hostname either. We also have "hosts" that are clusters and should go red only if ALL associated ip's go red. We have VPN-tunnels, that go red if certain criteria are met - even if pings to remote site work...through backup lines. All this complexity calls for an abstraction layer on top of possible DNS-names. That again requires the separation of the probes from the presentation). 2) Let us "include subpage filename" to cut these files into smaller, more manageable pieces. I don't like my 500 line structureless config file. 3) We would need two main VIEWS: 3a) infrastructure view: keep routers/switches on one page (&subpages), keep UPS'es on another page (the Power Page), keep servers on a third page and so on. 3b) business process view: group gateways, switches, UPSes, servers, printers by site or by business process Because of this we would like to have a separate hobbit-display. Writing EVERYTHING twice, the other half with noconn, is a nightmare. I get paid for this, but still...

Yes, but most unix es don't spport those flags for head and grep ! I didn't check on the sed. IM on a Solaris 8 system I read gnu man page for grep and didn't even understand what the -o flag did and not im not sure egrep would do the extend regular exp. If I did I might try to do it another way. . Disk Check Bug?

Just wondering. How does hobbit calculate the disk % on HPUX ? I have a fs that shows 100% on hobbit but when I do bdf it shows 99%. Is this a feature? Or a bug? Richard
