I thank to everyone who has replied to my email, if I miss anyone, I do apologize. Ok, so I've got super confused and you know what, I'm going to start everything all over fresh and clean -- that way, I can document it as I go along. I will do followings:1) shutdown xymon, and apache 2) I will even remove xymon ID and recreate it.3) keep /etc/hosts.cfg cat /etc/hosts.cfg 172.20.10.5 centos_hp0 # bbd http://centos_hp0/ 4) remove xymon's stuff in /etc/httpd/conf.d5) keep my test file for testing apache: /var/www/html/index.html cat index.html Welcome to Kern's webserver (sorry, I'm a real novice with apache since I'm a DBA) 6) anything else should I do as parts of trying to uninstall xymon, then reinstall? Looks more like an Apache config problem than Xymon. Hello, I'm a complete newbie to xymon and I don't have any luck on getting this to work yet. For our organization, we rarely have a purple alert that isn't the entire server going offline. So we solved it by only sending purple alert messages for the CPU and wrote a custom message that says, your CPU is purple but it's likely your server is down. Please log in and check it. Good day, I haven't been able to find too much information on this topic. Is it possible to configure Xymon to "roll-up" multiple purple alerts as well as their respective recoveries into one single event/alert? How do you handle retired servers?

When a server is retured, I really hate to removeit from xymon, but it is annoying to have to preiodically disable the the tests. How do folks handle this? Do you simply delete them and move on? Configuring analysis.cfg

I added the following lines to analysis.cfg: LOAD 8.0 12.0 HOST=scamanda01.lereta.com HOST=scaqmsrr01d.lereta.net PORT LOCAL=%*:5000 STATE=LISTEN TEXT="dgt balancer" As I understand the man page, the first should cause the cpu to go yellow at a load average of 8.0 and red at 12.0 but only for scamanda01.lereta.com. The second and third lines should cause xymon to report the state of port 5000 for scaqmsrr01d.lereta.net. My understanding must be wrong because neither works as I expect them to. Did I mess up the syntax? undocumented option on logfetch

I see my CentOS client script ~/client/bin/xymonclient.sh includes a call to logfetch with "--clock". On my client, it spills three times, epoch/local/UTC This option is not documented on the logfetch.1.html page. Looking in source, --clock appears to be the only undocumented option. Is this lack of documentation by design or oversight? -- Do things because you should, not just because you can. Where is the linux client name set?

It's been a couple of years since I've needed to configure a linux client (my Solaris systems are still running their old BB clients). And I'm confused with what I'm seeing. This is on a _very_ minimal server installation with client; compiled from source. I have files in ~/client/tmp/ of the form msg.xymonx.state.ak.us.txt (so fully-qualified host.domain name). Yet the first line of that file is: client xymonx.linux linux So the message body being sent to the xymon server contains the short host name. But the client is writing the file onto the disk with the fully-qualified name. The xymon server reports my client messages as 'ghosts', and correctly picks them up if I put a client alias in hosts.cfg client:xymonx I'd like to do away with that alias. Where is my linux client picking up this short name? -- Do things because you should, not just because you can.
