1. When I disable a host in hobbit, it says it was disabled by unknown at 1.2.3.4 <mailto:unknown at 1.2.3.4>. In the bb maint.pl script, it had an option to put a username, but I don't see an option to do this in the Hobbit Maint page, so is "unknown" hard coded, or does it look for it somewhere else? 2. I added the "NOTICE" rule to my hobbit-alerts.cfg HOST=* SERVICE=* COLOR=red MAIL me at mydomain.com <mailto:me at mydomain.com> RECOVERED NOTICE I then tested disabling the cpu service for a host, and I received an email with the disable message: ----- From: hobbit at myhost.com <mailto:hobbit at myhost.com> Sent: Wednesday, November 09, 2005 5:01 PM To: me at mydomain.com <mailto:me at mydomain.com> Subject: Hobbit servername:cpu NOTICE servername:cpu INFO Monitoring of servername:cpu has been DISABLED by unknown for 240 minutes Disabled by: unknown @ 1.2.3.4 Reason: testing disable notice ----- This is what I expected to get. However, I then went and re-enabled the disabled service, and I did not get an email saying it was re-enabled. I checked the /var/log/maillog to make sure that it wasn't a mail delay. There simply was no email sent about the enable. I assume this isn't normal behavior :) -Charles

Yes, I did rebuild hobbit after the upgrade (I took the same opportunity to upgrade hobbit to the newest snapshot)... FWIW, I got BB up and running on AIX 4.3.1 on an old 43p; the biggest problem was getting perl to compile. Ran just fine, but about the time I went to AIX 5.1 it started to run out of gas. That's when I went to BBGEN. And then an old Dell 4300 came my way, and I installed SuSE on it. And then I moved to hobbit, and the 43p was completely replaced for all other finctions by a Dell 2300 (also old) running SuSE 9.0. I figure on upgrading both systems to SLES 9 next month. Greetings, Recently I did a massive system upgrade, and now whenever I try to start my hobbit server I get the following error in the hobbitd.log file 2005-12-19 10:00:00 Setup complete 2005-12-19 10:00:00 Fatal error in select: Bad file descriptor And it just keeps repeating. Does anyone know what might have broke hobbit or what I have to do to fix the error? Thanks, Adam

Yeah, my pride took one on the chin for this. It's ok, I use three AIX 5.1 BBNET servers. I decided to request an intel box and run FC4 on it. RRDTool seems to be much happier on it or Solaris. At the time though, I had been running 4.3.3 and installed stuff from both Bull and the IBM Linux toolkit. I attempted the same procedure about a year ago and I could not get RRDTool 1.x working on AIX because of some oddball problem with the shared objects and the perl module. 3. Finally, to answer your question, yes, you need to dump the RRDTool databases to XML (use rrddump) and copy the resulting files over to your AIX box then use rrdrestore to get them into the format for AIX.
