Running Xymon on commercially hosted VPS?

We have a business need which could be met by running an instance of Xymon server outside our network. This would be a small instance running little more than xymonnet. There would be no clients reporting to it. It would not be running a web server. Does anyone want to share their stores of success or failure doing something similar on a USA-located hosting provider? -- Do things because you should, not just because you can. hello all, the last 4-5 days, i have a major problem with my xymon server. I run it for several years, monitoring connectivity on misc servers on my local network. Xymon server is connected to my local network via a VPN, and it seems that the problem is with the computers that have a private ip (10.xx.xx.xx). when i restart xymon, everything seems ok for a few minutes. after this, all become red and i have a "flapping status" warning. i tried to change values in tasks.cfg with no result. i unistalled/installed xymon, with no result. my configuration is very close to the default, except hosts.cfg of course. i tried to ping for hours a host on my localnet, from xymon server, successfully, with no packet lost.. can anyone help me with this ? -- regards, Metron 6 (six) Metron6 at gmail.com

Critical System Page -- HTTP 500 Error

My Data Center operators have informed me that the Critical Systems Page becomes unavailable for them due to an "Internal Server Error". This occurs predictably every night for them at approximately 2:45 (GMT-5) and lasts approximately 30 minutes. This problem has been impacting their ability to ensure that they properly inform us if any of our systems with sensitive SLAs become unavailable. A quick solution would be appreciated!! I started monitoring the Critical Page through Xymon itself for about a week now and have included the history. There seems to be no useful information that I have found in any Xymon or Apache logs. I also see no way of enabling any debugging logs for this script. I enabled the --debug option in cgioptions.cfg, but that cause a bunch of info to be displayed on the page, and that produced even more complaints, so I turned it back off. There is a series of entries in /var/log/messages every time the URL for the page is requested. During the time when the Critical Systems Page is unavailable, no other CGI script that is part of Xymon has any issues. (I offer that up because all of these scripts are the same, hard-linked file.) The /var/log/message file shows me that ABRT is also capturing crash information. It *was* discarding this information until I enabled the option for ProcessUnpackaged in /etc/abrt/abrt-action-save-package-data.conf. I have included all of the files (excluding the sosreport data; not sure if that might contain sensitive infomation or not). Configure remote client to be monitored by xymon

Hello, Can anyone please let me know how to configure my remote machine to be monitored by xymon? I Currently only ssh and conn are working but other services are not getting monitored. Please advise. Thanks

Strange Alerts

I'm getting an extremely strange behavior with alerts. Several recipients are complaining that they are getting alerts for servers that they don't manage and aren't assigned. There are about 200 lines in my alerts.cfg file. I've verified that the alert rules are accurate and running the test alert script (./bin/xymoncmd xymond_alert --test sever.name cpu) shows the correct, assigned user and the info page for the servers show the right user's email. Anyone know what I'm missing? The same problems happened with my old Hobbit server as well so it could be a config file issue but I've looked thoroughly and haven't been able to track it down yet. Alerts not monitored on host

Hello, I have setup a host to be monitored by xymon and i see that only conn and ssh are being monitored. I have other host for which all the services are being monitored but not for this. Both host have same kernel version they are using same xymon version. Please advice Thanks Zain

Hi, Finally, I have succeeded at building the xymon against an updated opessl. root at dns8:~# openssl version OpenSSL 1.0.2h 3 May 2016 root at dns8:/home/xymon_test/server/bin# ./xymonnet --version xymonnet version 4.3.27 SSL library : OpenSSL 1.0.2h 3 May 2016 The way I did it was to replace the system openssl with openssl-1.0.2h. I used the system tools to repackage a slackware-14.2 package to slackware-12.1 package. Then I completely deleted the xymon build and untarred it fresh. Then I got proper results. FYI the package over at Terabithia works with TLS 1.2 out of the box.
