I have Hobbit's bb.html page displaying just a list of other pages organized by OS platform. On a few of these pages we have production and non-production servers listed. In our environment - the non-production servers are deemed basically as important as the production servers since many highly visible and much highly politcally oriented development work and production support work is done. Now, i have been requested to separate the non-production servers from the production servers, placing them on a subpage of the productions servers page. No problem there - just a page tag and it is done. The other part of this, and what I am having trouble understanding how to do, is to prevent propagation of non-green events to the parent page where the production servers ar listed. We still generate alerts, pages, etc. for problems on the non-production pages, but I can't seem to find a way to prevent the non-green alerts for all tests on the non-prod subpages from propagting upward. Even if every single non-prod server went up in smoke, the production page should remain green (assuming there are no production problems). It seems I can alter the propagation status either globally or for a single test at a time, but there are hundreds of tests being done on the non-production systems and disabling all of them individually would really clutter up the bb-hosts file. Mosts of the tests are being done with bb client and are not even listed in Hobbit's bb-hosts file. Thanks for any help! Hobbit and RRDtool 1.2.x

Just a "heads-up" for those of you who may be thinking about using the new version of RRDtool (1.2.x) with Hobbit: Right now, it won't compile, because one of the RRDtool functions used by Hobbit has gotten some extra parameters. I've fixed that, and made the Hobbit configuration tool also recognize the new version. So starting with 4.0.3, Hobbit should compile without any problems with RRDtool 1.2.x. However, there's a bug in RRDtool that Hobbit triggers - causing all except one of the generated RRD-files to contain no data. So you must apply a patch to RRDtool 1.2.1 for it to work - it is available at http://www.hswn.dk/hobbitsw/rrdtool-1.2.1-rrdcreate.patch I've sent the patch to the RRDtool maintainers, and it seems that they will fix this in the next release. Running with "--no-ares" cured the problem; I'll just leave it this way until I do the rebuild sometime next month. After all, bbtest is reporting 359 dns lookups, a run time of 22.669 seconds, and a ping time of 21.018 seconds. It's not like I'm sitting on the host count a lot of the rest of you have. It does know about the "noconn" tag, but the way the bb-hosts file get parsed and tests added to the queue may not be quite as you expected. Just to verify that, could you try running bbtest-net with the "--no-ares" option and see if that keeps it from crashing ? I know this may cause bbtest-net to spend much more time doing DNS lookups, but I'd like to have the problem narrowed down as much as possible. OK, after some prodding by a new Hobbit user I finally got around to getting the mail archive back into working order. It should now be fully up-to-date, with automatic updates once an hour. http://www.hswn.dk/hobbiton/ The acid-test will be if things still work after the end of the month. Regards, Henrik
