I have a bunch of old rrd files taking up space that are no longer needed Will I get myself in trouble if I delete them? Is there a better way to clean them up? The specific files in question are ifstat files with bogus data that were created due to a bbwin client bug on windows 2008 servers

TS - sendmail HOWTO?

Does anyone have the setup for my Xymon server 4.3.0-0.beta2 Running on a Dell R-610 on CentOS with Sendmail. My Exchange guys say that they are not stopping delivery of Emails to my server. I need to know what options need to be set in the Sendmail system to receive Emails. Is there a HOWTO setup the Xymon login to receive and parse the returned Emails? I want to allow my users to reply with an 'a' = ACKnowledge or a 'd' = DISable of the device. I have not done something like this for 5 years and now I need it again. I need to understand in SENDMAIL where the script goes for the Xymon login to parse the Email apart And process the request and return an Email. I found something on ACK but it was not for Sendmail. Hi, I install xymon collector server and agent in the same machine. Apache server is running in the same server. Now I start collector server and agent both. After that I am trying to open web page with: http://19x.xxx.xxx.xxx/xymon/index.html I am getting following error: *Forbidden* You don't have permission to access /xymon/index.html on this server. ------------------------------ *Apache/2.2.3 (Red Hat) Server at 19x.xxx.xxx.xxx Port 80* Kindly let me know how can I resolved this problem? Greetings - I'm currently running Xymon v4.3.7, and having troubles getting the ".default." entry to work properly. Here is what I have configured: page devs Network Devices 0.0.0.0 .default. # testip NOPROPRED:if_load NOPROPYELLOW:if_load (then a bunch of hosts below) It seems the .default. entry is ignored (status IS propagated upward), *and* I see the following error in xymonnet: dnsresolve - internal error, name '' not in cache xymonnet: Cannot resolve IP for host Am I misunderstanding the ".default." entry? Hello, I'm writing a script to show disk temperature. I read about "RRDMETA" that "(...)if you create a file called rrd.meta in the hosts rrd directory, it will lookup a legend in this file(...)". But I didn't found the information about the format and how it is used by xymon. What is the preferred way to fill-in such rrd.meta file ? Is there any xymon command (like status or data) to use or does it have to be edited statically ? TIA, Jo

TIME_WAIT making client report too big

I have a couple of servers that I just started monitoring. These servers exist to run haproxy, a load balancer. The haproxy program tends to leave a lot of TIME_WAIT connections in the netstat output. This is resulting in a client report that is too big, and I am getting false red alarms on procs, because it can't find the cron process. Is there any way to have specific clients filter out TIME_WAIT before sending in their reports? If so, can it be controlled from the server? I have also been looking for ways to make haproxy clean up after itself better, but that so far is a dead end. The client is CentOS 6 running 4.3.7 from a package, the server is running 4.3.0 beta using packages in the debian repository. I know I need to get it upgraded. It's on my todo list, but because of the hobbit->xymon change throughout the program, upgrading is not going to be pretty, and I keep putting it off. Thanks, Shawn

Additional tests from xymon server

Hi, I'm trying to add a test to the xymon server. This one has to reside server-side because not it does domain checks and not all domains have an assigned IP. Also, connectivity is not a concern here. What I'm trying to do is add some domain in a subpage and check for changes in their nameserver IPs. I've written a perl script that does the job and it takes the domain name as a parameter. In practice I'm trying to replicate what xymonnet does with the various checks like dns, http, smtp, etc. I would have something like this hosts.cfg: page domainchecks <H3>Domain Checks<H3> <some IP> <the domain name> # noconn <my_test_name> I did scrip this to check all domains at once but, that's not a desired behavior because I need to xymon to treat them separately and tell me for each if something changed or not according to my script. I setup a test task in tasks.cfg like this: [Environment] ENVFILE /var/lib/xymon/server/etc/xymonserver.cfg NEEDS xymond CMD $XYMONSERVERROOT/server/ext/env.pl LOGFILE $XYMONSERVERLOGS/ext-env.log INTERVAL 5m I've set it up for some hosts to no avail: <some ip> <hostname> # env It only shows up for the xymon server, which leads me to think this is more cumbersome than I first thought. Has anyone managed to do something like this before? -- All I know is that I like you. I have no taste, but I like you.

Xymon Service alert not showing proper status for stopped service - windows

Hi folks. I just received this alert and am trying to figure out why it's showing this way. It's alerting on a service on a windows sql box - the service that looks stopped is SQLSERVERAGENT automatic stopped SQL Server Agent (MSSQLSERVER) but the alert text shows &red SQLSERVERAGENT is started/automatic - want started/automatic Is this a time delay, or is there something I'm missing that's causing the disconnect ? Will Xymon try to restart this service or do we manually code something to do that? My goal is to setup specific MYSQL and MS SQL server monitoring on a DB page, but I hope to get a better understanding of how to watch and validate these items.
