Editing Critical Systems doesn't save the host

Hello When I tries to add a host in the "edit critical system" view but the host doesn't show in the "critical system" view. I have upgrade the Hobbit server resistantly, using rpm-package, from 4.1.2 to 4.2.0. I have read about this problem on the list but the solution doesn't work for me. Deviding multiple HTTP tests / userdefined services

Hi, we monitore a server farm with several machines each providing multiple and different HTTP services, lets say some of them a forum, some others static pages and some more dynamic PHP pages. Sets of machines providing each service may overlap. Each service has a testing URL, which is unfortunately way to complicate to easily figure out the requested service from it, let say http://10.0.0.123/index.php?serviceid=7fd6c689c5832e2e7d2dc1188e2548fb http://10.0.0.123/index.php?serviceid=733fe2d6c68cd9a245be03532a867483 for forum and dynamic content, respectively. I know, that's bad by design, but there is no easy way to change it. All these URLs are configured with bb-hosts file. At the moment we tried two different approches: first we used all URLs at one line for this machine. This way the URL list in HTTP details is very long and unclear. A single failed test leads to a failure for all HTTP stuff which results in bad availability reports. Second we used some pseudo hostnames like forum-machine1 which leads again to some confusions because physical there is no such machine. Last week I was very happy to find cont=COLUMN. As I think it is a bit misplaced in content checking area I probably use the wrong option for my things. And in addition I need several URLs to check the availability of a service, eg. for forum: 10.0.0.123 machine123 # cont=forum;http://10.0.0.123/index.php?serviceid=7fd6c689c5832e2e7d2dc1188e2548fb; cont=forum;http://10.0.0.123/index.php?serviceid=898e0df11f6400ce8c47a73b38f83e80; Now I have a forum column in status pages, but AFAICS from details of this new column only the first URL is checked. If any of the later fails it does not result in an error for this service (but HTTP column shows a failed test). I thought about having a lot of external scripts to test all URLs and report them to hobbit server, but this would be a hell to maintain. In addition this lacks the performance analysis hobbit does with HTTP tests. So, is there a way to generate and "stack" user defined tests in the same way as with HTTP tests? hobbit-client Debian Ubuntu

When I installed hobbit-client at Debian system, the install shows a post-installation error: Configurando hobbit-client (4.2.0-1) ... Please configure HOBBITSERVERS in /etc/default/hobbit-client invoke-rc.d: initscript hobbit-client, action "start" failed. dpkg: error al procesar hobbit-client (--configure): post-installation script devolvió el código de salida de error 1 Se encontraron errores al procesar: hobbit-client E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) I included HOBBITSERVERS="IP_ADDRESS" at /etc/default/hobbit-client file and hobbit-client starts ok. However after the next update /etc/default/hobbit-client file has been restored to default and the above error comes again. Hey everyone. Anybody know of a way to limit the amount of notifications Hobbit sends to a recipient? We are moving away from using both cell phones and pagers and I can see a building going offline rendering the cell phone almost useless due to text-message interrupts. Thanks... Alan

[hobbit] Multigraphs generation

Hi, my hobbit version is 4.2.0 and I have a problem with --multigraph option. I wrote an external script called "memstats" that collect a lot of data about "ram" and "swap" utilization. My control creates a single rrd file with all the data collected. The graph generated by all the data is quite big and I'd like to split into two different graphs. What is the format for the bb-hosts include directive? I know you can use the full path...where would a relative filename be relative from? $SERVER/etc? Can it handle variables like $BBHOME? I need to know in order to make the notes script follow the definitions. (assuming the dispinclude and netinclude follow the same principle) =G=

First, it was developed on Solaris, and uses ptime to measure execution time. Linux doesn't have ptime, just 'time' and I'm not sure if it's giving the correct response for script post-processing. Alerting on matching group tags in bb-hosts

Hi All, I'm busy setting up alerting (first timer). We have several departments doing specialized work. One dept. Handles the network, the other linux servers, again another for windows servers and finally one that handles all the webservers. The departments are also spread over two locations. I've created a few pages (no subpages) in bb-hosts which contain group items as well. For instance: ************************************** page windows Windows group Domain controllers 1.2.3.4 dcroot # COMMENT:"main DC" 1.2.3.5 dclocation1 # COMMENT:"DC for location1" 1.2.3.6 dclocation2 # COMMENT:"DC for location2" group Windows servers in location1 1.2.4.1 server1-location1 1.2.4.2 server2-location1 group Windows servers in location2 1.2.4.3 server3-location2 1.2.4.4 server4-location2 ************************************** All servers have a hobbit-compatible client (Bbwin) installed. >From what I have read in the documentation, it is not possible to send alert emails to a defined mail group in hobbit-alerts.cfg based on the group tag in bb-hosts. It is possible for (sub)page tags and hosts matching a regexp. But what if I want all problems to any host under group "Windows servers in location2" to be directed to a list of email addresses for that specific location? How can I accomplish this? Rather than a command line tool you could write a java app to display your results. ie. go to a web page that runs a java program that tests the key parts of your app and it displays results.
