Running big, incomprehensible programs as root (sendmail, brrr....) is not on my list of things I want to do. Most Hobbit stuff - server or client - runs just fine with ordinary user privileges. Too bad, I never thinked I needed a third reply. Pick a look at the bbconfig script on www.deadcat.net. I don't know if anyone uses this script to generate hobbit config files, but it should work. You can define precisely which parameters apply to which host, and it will generate bb-hosts, bb-proctab bb-dftab. Depending on the test you wish to disable, you can place a ! Before the name of the test or a noconn to avoid the client to be pinged. For the double entries, I still have warning about thoses, but I didn't have enough time to fix it for the moment. You can generate a page which contains the whole infos the dev needs. Just take enough time to set properly the pages, subpages. They asked me to be able to generate a Hobbit page with all the stuff they deal with, not only the Oracle stuff. If I do as you explained in your mail, I will only be able to give them a part of the expected information; - I still need a default page with a complete list of all the tests running on all my servers; - Your proposed bb-hosts file has two entries for the same server. IN hobbitserver.cfg Ive changer GRAPHS="la,disk::1, ...... This HAS given me one graph per FS in the disk column but not the trends. PS found how to do this with the Hobbit mail-archive search! graph problems

Hello, I have just copied my old big brother data files (history and rrd) to a new hobbit 4.0.4 installation, it seems to work well except some problems with rrd file: - on all linux client the vmstat graph was empty, and the error message was: /dati/hobbit/data/rrd/blu/vmstat.rrd from 127.0.0.1: unknown DS name 'cpu_w' i have deleted the bigbrother vmstat.rrd, and the new one is correct. - on all AIX, linux and solaris client the netstat is empty. if i delete the rrd file, it is recreated on aix and linux (still empty however), but not for solaris. the log for linux machine: larrd-status.log:2005-07-06 14:39:34 RRD error updating /dati/hobbit/data/rrd/blu/netstat.rrd from 127.0.0.1: expected 13 data source readings (got 16) from 1120653574:102891:105479:0:17502925:398003:0:18201:0:U:U:U:U:40401904:26965995:U:453087:... for solaris machine: larrd-status.log:2005-07-06 14:42:09 RRD error updating /dati/hobbit/data/rrd/siebdbp/netstat.rrd from 127.0.0.1: expected 13 data sourcereadings (got 16) from 1120653729:4598699:4703299:0:917679:661345:601878:56101:429:3557031050:4281072706:1677389:801734229:2140806543:1738905102:1990:591967:... - on all windows client, the "memory" graph is always zero (not empty). how can i debug this situation? thanx -- Gianluca

That is controlled by the tool that generates the status message, usually the BB client or the Hobbit "bbtest-net" network test tool. Hobbit just keeps track of when a status message is no longer valid, according to the lifetime that was specified for the status message. The option you mention actually defined how often a status that had gone purple would be updated by bbgen. This is now done completely inside the Hobbit daemon, so there is no involvement on the bbgen side anymore. Regards, Henrik
