[hobbit] cpu disk procs - need the client for that?

There is no general hobbit client yet. The one on SourceForge will only work with Open(?)BSD. You still need to use the BigBrother clients. (I think the BigSister clients will work as well, but I haven't tried them myself). cpu disk procs - need the client for that?

Hi! New here, was looking through the first 4 months of the mailarchive for the answer but none could be found. I've build and installed hobbit server 4.0.4 stable release and everything seems ok. I was running bb19c before without any mods and this looks like a really nice and fast system. I need the servers to send their cpu/disk/procs data to the hobbit server but I cant seem to be able to build the hobbit client 0.3 on CentOS 4.0. Config passes through without a notice and but it fails on make. Or is there a way to utilize bb19c disk/cpu/procs scripts for it? bb is still running on the servers that act like bb-clients but doesnt seem to be able to send the data (yes, ports are open - e.i. 1984 tcp in/out and firewall reloaded with new rules). You need the rrd include files, bu I'm not sure thoseones are shipped with your rpm. The rrdinclude should be something like /usr/include. Check if you can find a rrd.h file in /usr find /usr -name rrd.h -print I don't know if there is an faq. I've installed rrd using the rpm (rrdtool-1.0.49-5.fc4.i386.rpm) and it /appears/ to have installed. When I attempt to run ./configure I get: Checking for RRDtool ... RRDtool include- or library-files not found. Trends Graphs

Henrik, I have written a custom test to poll our Netbotz Wallbotz for the temperature, humidity and dewpoint of our locations. They report fine into hobbit and I have managed to get their graphs into the trends page. My question is: Every Wallbotz test will produce the same three graphs of information. Is there anyway to tell Hobbit that whenever there is a Netbotz column to automatically put the three graphs on the trends page? Right now I have to add the separate tests in the bb-hosts file through the use of the LARRDS: option, but would simply like to have these appear on their own. I have included a snip of my bb-hosts file as an example as well as my hobbitgraph.cfg file. I poured through some of the older emails as well as the manual, but didn't find any concrete. I suspect that if this is possible I would need to modify the source code to educate Hobbit about the Netbotz. Stefan, I don't know if this is your problem. I just suggested it as a possibility for you to consider. I originally saw random lockups on a BB system after upgrading from Redhat 7 to (8 or 9, I don't remember). I thought this might be possible on other versions or distributions as well. The solution in my case was to either: 1) Down-grade the compiler to match the OS . 2) Recompile the kernel. 3) Change OS versions (sounds like you may have tried this). Yep. I did. Between myself and Henrik, we have tried a number of versions, and a few special diagnostic versions of Hobbit. We have been working mostly off-list because we have been exchanging potentially confidential information, and don't believe that our failure to diagnose a problem is of general interest. (I am sure a full account of this sad tale will be posted once it is resolved.) Kudos to Henrik though. I think he has really tried. He has worked tirelessly to try and resolve this issue, which I believe is very admirable, when you consider his reward for all this hard work. Henrik is a true mensch. (Yes, that's an English word. Look it up) So far, we have not been able to identify the root cause of the problem. Henrik was going to have a look at some of the messages that came from one of the hosts, and get back to me. Stefan, if you are interested in assisting us with this, then myself and Henrik can cc you in our off-list exchanges. Have you got any theories as to the cause? Try http://www.onelook.com/?w=mensch&ls=a :-) Once Hobbit hangs, it refuses to core. The only thing that will clobber it, is a kill -9 When it hangs, it hangs good. The logs are devoid of useful info too. Even with the latest build. This is probably the most frustrating issue I have ever seen.
