hobbitd_client crashing on FreeBSD 4.11

Hi there, I am monitoring a FreeBSD 4.11 box with Hobbit, and it works greats except for an occasional hobbitd_client process crash. I have been noticing this because I'll see a purple icon on my monitoring web page. This shows up in the /var/log/hobbit/clientdata.log file on the FBSD box: 2006-03-05 12:01:12 Worker process died with exit code 134, terminating 2006-03-05 12:01:18 Worker process died with exit code 134, terminating 2006-03-07 18:16:05 Worker process died with exit code 134, terminating 2006-03-07 18:16:10 Worker process died with exit code 134, terminating It looks to me that the hobbitd_client process is respawned, because all I have to do is reset the display with a command like: ./bb 127.0.0.1 "drop my.host.name hobbitd_client" That gets rid of the purple icon. You may have missed the point. You need to change the entry to: 192.168.0.126 DBR # BBDISPLAY BBPAGER BBNET ftps bbd http://dbr.sf-office.broadline.tv <http://dbr.sf-office.broadline.tv/> CLIENT: dbr.sf-office.broadline.tv "DBR" (the host name above) does not equal "dbr.sf-office.broadline.tv" the host name reported by the client. Believe it or not, the server also runs a client -- part of the elegance of Henrik's design... Status issues

I have an error showing up in my log that I have not been able to track down the cause of. 2006-03-08 08:49:22 hobbitd servername MACHINE='dbr,sf-office,broadline,tv' not listed in bb-hosts, dropping hobbitd status it shows the name of the hobbit server, but with comma's seperating the fqdn, I have not been able to actually find anywhere in any of the configs where this mistake was input (and I have seen myself do exactly this mistake before so...) Just not sure where it comes from, checked every config file, dug through the docs to no avail. --L

Schedule disable with BB command-line

It works, with some interesting side effects :) Edited my hobbitcgi.cfg file and added the "--multigraphs=disk,if_load" statement (the arguments and their order don't seem to matter, as long as if_load is in there). At this point, my graph was as it was before (to be expected, since I hadnt edited my hobbitserver.cfg yet), however, 14 additional graphs, all of them blank, appeared (in the html source code, the graph block was prefaced by a "" comment. The urls are all the same, /w the exception of the "first" argument that gets passed to hobbitgraph.sh; it gets incremented by 4 on every link (which, incidently, is what the 'count' argument is set to). Now, when I edit my hobbitserver.cfg and edit the if_load portion of the GRAPHS option to appear as "if_load::2," my graphs appear correctly (i.e one graph to an ifc). Yay! However, now the blank graph count has nearly quadrupled to 57. Aiieee! The urls are still nearly identical, with first counting up to 59, but now by increments of 1 (which is what 'count' is set to). Hi all, I've got Devmon collecting rrd data now, which will hopefully let me (and others) eschew with having to run MRTG. I've got a quick question, however. Right now I'm just testing things with my if_load test, under which I have 5 or 6 interfaces dumping data into separate rrd files (with inbound and outbound load data in each file). Now, my question is, is it possible, in the if_load test page, to make hobbit display a separate graph for each interface? For instance, I have ifcs Gi0/1 and Gi0/2 on a switch dumping data into two separate files (if_load.gi0_1.rrd and if_load.gi0_2.rrd, respectively). [hobbit] Feasibility of Windows Client

Well, FWIW, I managed to compile the hobbit client on Windows 98 using cygwin and it does something. Well, it runs the scripts and creates the msg.txt but I never saw it reported back to the display even though I see it connected (or try to connect) to the 1984 port. I have to do more research why it's not showing up. :/ Luis

It's funny, when I started looking at the log to figure out why the CGI's were failing it seems that , Jetty does keep the REQUEST_URI internally, but the CGI servlet does not pass the variable to the CGI. (Servlet gap? , I've not checked the servlet code...). I was not expecting this to be changed. I just wanted to point it out in case somebody else is interested in running Hobbit in Jetty instead of Apache. I think that other changes that I might do could be considered site dependent customization, but I'll be happy to share them as soon as I'm done. I'm still doing due dilligence on how I want to modify hobbit to be able to monitor a specific application. I'll keep you posted. :) Regards, Luis

My hobbit server is in Indiana (US) and we've just decided to start doing the 'change the clock twice a year' shtick again. Do I need to worry about what alerts we'll get when the time shifts by an hour, twice a year? Or does hobbit walk the status messages and re-date them when the shift occurs?
