hobbitdlog does not work anymore with latest snapshot

Hi Henrik with the latest snapshot, "hobbitdlog" does not seem to work anymore. I'm using this : $ ~/client/bin/bb hades "hobbitdlog hades.bbgen" and I get an empty string. It was working with the previous snapshots. Regards, -- Frédéric Mangeant Steria EDC Sophia-Antipolis

[hobbit] hobbitd_client crashing

Ok the --debug help me locate the problem. A sol 5.6 client was causing it . After shutting this client on and off a couple of time to verify it, I rolled back to a june 8 build and its fine! Since Ive just two 5.6 host no problem. I have not updated any other client thats I can tell but my severs 5.9 so I guess that ok. Question can I just tar up the client on the server and use it on other sol 5.9 systems and any changes need to be made after untarring? Also is there a way that clients can id themselves on the web page? Lastly, a requested , be nice if at least "drop host test" could be added to disable/enable page! All, First off, I don't exactly know where Im going with this message, Im just hoping a bunch of people out there go "Ya, I know exactly what you mean!" haha. Ok, so there are tons of different ways people out there layout their hobbit "presentation" to themselves, clients, etc... Just from reading the mailing list for the past 6 months, I've seen so many different ways: * Normal hobbit * No prop pred stuff * Alternate pagesets * Multiple bbdisplays * Multiple instances * Password protected stuff * Different ways of labeling thing via NET etc... I often wonder "Am I doing this right? Is there a better way to present all this stuff? I don't even use NKview (or critical view in the new version) Should I be" Most importantly "When I convert all of operations to hobbit, I will have a hobbit server in NY, and one where I am, and im sure they will want different views/pages etc... and I will want to look at their stuff, but not get paged on it etc. etc. etc., what am I going to do then?" Right now, Im saving all the hobbit mails that deal specifically with page layout in the hopes that in the future, I will be able to look at them all and try and extract from all the emails the different ways of doing things. The man pages are very good, if you know what your looking for. There are things you can do though that are more what you want, you just don't see them because your not looking for them. To that end, (and Im not sure exactly how this could be accomplished) Im wondering if there is some way to show everyone the different options. Almost like a web page that has something like: Scenerio #1: You are the admin, and want to see every host on one page, and you have users that need to only see the first 10 hosts, and users that need to see the second 10 hosts, and users that need to see the first 20. Here are the different ways this could be setup. Link 1 to a view of the page with the various config options you would need Link 2 to a view of the page done differently with the various config options etc... Scenerio #2 <next scenerio> etc... Thats just one idea. I just think there are so many ways of doing things with this, and I may not even know of one, but when I saw it I would say "YA! Thats exactly what I want mine to look like" and I could make it happen. Maybe I'm the only one that feels this way though :-D Anyway, just thought I would throw this out to the list and see what people thought. Sometimes you just need to push a ball down a hill to get it rolling :-) Thanks, jeff

Server side tests stopped

Hello, This morning when I got into work, I noticed that last night at around 6:15 pm local time, the server side tests on Hobbit (conn, ssh, smtp, dns, etc.) stopped on all of the machines that my Hobbit server polls. When I restarted the Hobbit Daemon, the tests returned from Purple to green, but I do not know exactly what the problem was. On Monday of this week, I incrementally upgraded from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 and then 4.1.2p1 and followed the Upgrade instructions along the way. Is there anything that I can do after the fact to find out what might have caused this to happen? I searched through the log files, and did not find anything that would indicate what might have been the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jeff

Its problable a broken gdb. But how do I envoke bt command in gdb? how else to debug ? Command line option on hobbitd_client? disk graphs - more partitions per graph?

Is there a way for me to tell hobbit to put more than 5 disk patitions on a single graph? I know I can probably do it via commandline, but how do I make the change perm for all of the disk displays? I have several hosts with 6 mounts and I'd rather have just one graph instead of a second one with a single mount point on it.

Hi, On Solaris 10, the pseudo file systems /system/contract /devices /system/object /etc/svc/volatile and /var/run should not be reported. On Solaris 8/9 /var/run should not be reported. procs graphs not displaying in trends view for snapshot 20060601

I just noticed that the procs graphs are not displaying in my trends view, using "Hobbit Monitor 4.2-beta-20060601". Is there a fix I can make without upgrading to the newest snapshot? Thanks

monitoring logs only if they exist

I have machines that may or may not have a specific log file. How do I configure hobbit to only retrieve the logs if they exist? Right now, I have msgs yellow with "Logfile not accessible" on any host without this log and I would like to have them show up as green. Thanks Jon
