Problems starting hobbit

Well after battling numerous other problems, I finally have what (I think) is a working version of the Hobbit server. Although I think I have everything configured properly, I'm unable to start it. I get the following in hobbitlaunch.log: 2006-06-15 16:05:11 hobbitlaunch starting 2006-06-15 16:05:11 Loading tasklist configuration from /usr/local/hobbit/server/etc/hobbitlaunch.cfg 2006-06-15 16:05:11 Loading hostnames 2006-06-15 16:05:11 Loading saved state 2006-06-15 16:05:11 Setting up network listener on 0.0.0.0:1984 2006-06-15 16:05:11 Setting up signal handlers 2006-06-15 16:05:11 Setting up hobbitd channels 2006-06-15 16:05:11 Could not attach shm Permission denied 2006-06-15 16:05:11 Cannot setup status channel 2006-06-15 16:05:11 Task hobbitd terminated, status 1 I've tweaked the shmseg setting in /etc/system (7 didn't work, I ended up at 10), but from reading the list archives it seems that I may need to tune shmmni and shmmax as well. Any truth to this, or am I barking up the wrong tree? Thanks, -Shaun

bbproxy to hobbit server

Hi Our network setup in a way that ecery client needs to be in the Firewall ACL to be allowed to talk to hobbit server on port 1984. Now if I use a bbproxy which IP the hobbit server sees? Odd problem with hobbit

I am in the process of automating adding new hosts to our hobbit system. I've got a bb-hosts that looks like this: subpage myis My InternetServices Servers subparent myis myis-loc1 Location 1 Servers group-except bbd|bbgen|bbtest|hobbitd|rsync|http MyIS Location 1 Servers include myis-loc1-hosts Now my script inadvertantly left the myis-loc1-hosts file owned by root with perms of 600. Therefore hobbit had a problem reading the hosts file temporarily. However, NOW whenever I try to view a history item for the servers I get the error "No such host". The URL is this: http://hobbit.myinternetservices.com/cgi-bin/bb-hostsvc.sh?HOSTSVC=127,0,0,… (IP's changed to protect the innocent. :P) Yet other locations are perfectly fine. What causes this error? More importantly how do I fix this? This is on hobbit 4.1.2p1 on a Fedora Core 3 box. [hobbit] Hobbit tracking of data from ORCA

We use it. We use orcallator for the BB server, we wrote our agent to collect files for a "tempallator." We wrote another one for a "ticallator" to track TIC statistics (a Cache Server for Real Time data). We use the procollator for Linux. To be frank, the tempallator is the most valuable, and we rarely look at the others. We wrote a web front-end to the data called heatmap, which looks up the location of the server name in a db, and puts it in the correct cab location in the DC. The map shows the rows of cabs, the color of the cab is set by the hottest machine (hard-coded thresholds). Click on the cab to see the machines. New install - Which version to get ?

Hi, I'm starting a new hobbit install session. I'll need to graph some sar I/O stats. Which version of hobbit would be the best ? 4.0 ? 4.1.2rc ? I'd like to have some autonomous system, including messages files scanning without getting some BB executables. TIA Nicolas

Host definitions that have a "noconn" tag or an IP of 0.0.0.0 get lower priority. By using the "prefer" tag you tell bbgen that this host definition should be used. TIME alert problems (still)

Fellow Hobbitiers... Some may remember an issue I raised a few weeks back with regard to the TIME option in the hobbit-alerts config in that TIME was not being honoured and so we were getting alerted during blackout time periods that were set. This still looks like it's an issue in the snapshot I downloaded 3days after the beta release. Has anyone got any other ideas, is TIME only honoured on built in checks or something along those lines as it's the ext scripts that are causing the alerting (they are sending results to hobbit and hobbit does the actual alerting). I also have the same problem with another service, this one was just easiest to get the information for. MAIL .... I received no alerts. If I check with the test command : bbcmd hobbitd_alert --test server3 red conn I get this message : Failed 'PAGE=serversNOCONN [...] (pagename not in include list) My questions are : - Is it because hosts with noconn test only are not matched ? - What is the "include list"? - did I made something wrong somewhere ? Ah! I don't always update clients right away. I m still running bb clients but they are easy to spot. But currently IM running hobbit client on hpux 11 (hpux 10.20 WAS test awhile ago and worked but I went back to bb because of client side ext scripts that needed to be converted) , Sol 2.6 , 2.8, 2.9 (Ive a 2.10 not tried yet) and linux . I could and hopeful will be running AIX 5.x , maybe VAX , SGI and NT . Hi all After a Installed 4.2 beta, I am getting core dump file in the /home/hobbit folder every time the server reloads. Any idea of how I can see what is causing this ? Regards Siggi
