Instead, you sit with frequent short outages (which may avoid the attention of managers, production managers) which have end-user impact. I like even less using a monitoring system to do this ... Thanks I created a script to grab the info I wanted to send and it worked fine. I'm now just tweaking it to get meaningful info with the page. Thanks. I need to alert via a numeric page when a red alert happens for certain services (conn, disk etc...). The page number has the following format: <areacode><number>@page.provider.com We successfully send pages out via sendmail regularly via a script on another server. How do I incorporate this method into Hobbit. Do I just use the MAIL keyword in hobbit-alerts.cfg or is there something else I need to do. Automatically enable a disabled test -> bug?

Hi everyone, I've noticed something unexpected on my hobbit installation. When I disable a lot of hosts (a bunch of access points for example) to perform some maintenance jobs on them, after a short while, hobbit seems to have "forgotten" I disabled the hosts until I click on OK. When I start with the first few AP's, the other ones that are to be dealt with later have changed their status from blue to green again... Is this a bug or do I misinterpret the "until OK" checkbox in the enable/disable section on the hobbit server? To clarify my question, here's what I do: On the hobbit server, I go to the menu "Administration -> Enable/disable". I log in and on that page I select a bunch of AP's (by matching a pagename pattern as a filter). I then select almost all the AP's on the Hosts list (upright of the browser) and I select the "conn" test to disable. Then I enter some text in the "Cause:" textbox. Then I'm starting to doubt about the "Duration:". Until now, I believed you could either set a few hours or days as duration, or until I enabled the tests again (the "until OK: checkbox). But I'm starting to think that that checkbox is not a way of disabling a test on a host forever... Am I right? Does this checkbox mean that hobbit will continue to run the disabled tests and when they succeed, hobbit will automatically enable the tests again (change status from blue to green)? If the above is true, what do I need to do when I want to disable a few tests (not all) on a host for an unknown period of time (in other words: forever, until I explicitly enable)? Or have I hit a bug? Thanks, Dennis

Purple color

Hi I am getting purple color in my web server...I belive it means the server is not getting updated...My TCP/IP , DNS looks ok , hobbit is running... Is there any thing I can check.. I figured I would share the script and setup that I am now using, Note that the script is for use with lm_sensors on linux machines, and tailored for my particular setup (different servers have different sensors and thus the temperature parsing section may have to be changed). Possible bug in hobbitd_client?

Hello, I'm having a bit of a problem with hobbitd_client on my main hobbit server. It is running Redhat Enterprise Linux ES 4 U2, kernel 2.6.9-22.ELsmp. The version of hobbit we are running is 4.1.2p1. Sporadically I get a core-file in the server/tmp directory but not every day, although hobbit is alerting daily that the client has caught a fatal signal and crashed. [hobbit] Turn off descriptions in bb2.html (latest snapshot)?

Is there a flag to turn of the descriptions on the list of hosts in bb2.html for the snapshot? Looks like this: conn cpu disk .... host01 (this is a long description) host02 host03 (sort of skews the display in an unattractive way) Server is running on fedora core 5. Snapshot is the latest. I did peruse the man pages and tried a recursive search through the build with no luck, may have missed it? The snapshot did fix my "hobbitd status-board not available" errors every couple hours in the 4.2.0 version with the allinone patch. ~David
