I have a mix environment of solaris and freebsd. I want to make sure hobbit checks for /var/log/messages for freebsd servers. All these servers ".*-apps1-*|dca-apps2-*|jfk-apps2-*|svl-apps2-*|cer-apps2-*|chi-apps2-*" are freebsd. However it is still looking at /var/adm/messages file for cer-apps2-*|chi-apps2-* servers. Rest of them behaving just fine. Here are the layouts. client problems - connection refused

I'm doing a new installation of Hobbit. I followed the directions from the web and got to "Congratulations, you now have a running Hobbit server!" without problems. Then I added a few clients - the Hobbit server seems to be working fine (immediately as they showed up in the web page http and conn went green) but I cannot seem to get the client installed and working correctly. I tar-ed and copied the client directory to each client machine, created a hobbit user there and setup the ~hobbit/client/ directory. I can launch the client: runclient.sh start and the client/logs/clientlaunch.log shows it started; ps -ef shows it's still running - but client/logs/hobbitclient.log is empty I cannot telnet to the clients on port 1984 - so naturally the hobbit server thinks bbd is dead. Do I have to build the hobbit client on all the clients? Or have I missed something else? Thanks, Frank

hobbit show devmon's community string in "info" page

Is there anyway to hide this information from hobbit server showing this community information ? It is showing like following under "info" for a host with devmon enabled. configure the looking of the web page

Hi all, I've the problem, that I'm using in my configuration under one title many pages. Now the web site is created as long list with only two columns of these pages. All works fine, but is it possible to increase the number of columns to three or four to get a shorter web site? I haven't found anything in the config files... Any ideas? ncv graphing trends

Okay, okay. I thought I was getting great at getting my data to graph - maybe not though. I'm sending data from my mail server to hobbit. The rrd *is* being created and updated. When I click on the 'trends' link that particular graph is not there. However, if (in the url) I type in the service exactly (e.g. http://10.5.0.75/hobbit-cgi/hobbitgraph.sh?host=mail&service=dnsbltrend&gra…) the graph shows up and is populated. I thought I had to add it to the bb-hosts file: 10.5.102.1 mail # noconn ssh smtp2 pop3 imap TRENDS:*,dnsbltrend But it still won't show up on its own. I'm not sure what I'm missing. Any help is appreciated, Matt

Duration reset on status change

I know this has been discussed before, but I have a slight problem with the way duration is calculated. I need to send an Email if a test is yellow, and escalating pages if it is red. My problem is that a test went yellow over the weekend when nobody was checking Email, then in the middle of the night went to red. Which caused techs, backup techs, managers, and the CEO to be paged because the duration was over 24 hours. Is there any way to reset the duration counter when the state changes. Hobbit Features

Hi Henrik! Congratulations for a job well done being the developer of Hobbit. I've been using Hobbit for over a month now to monitor our servers (database, email, dns, proxy/squid, etc.) and receiving support from you and other hobbit users whenever I have a problem configuring it. Even though it is not yet fully setup for our server needs, it is already up and running. However it is not yet fully implemented in our company because it is still under debugging/testing together with 3 other sever monitoring tool (Nagios, Zenoss Core, and Zabbix). Next week, I will defend Hobbit against the 3 other server monitoring tool regarding of what tool are we going to use and I am wondering if you can give me some important information or advantage of Hobbit among the others. I'm sure you already heard about the server monitoring tools that I mentioned above. I am also preparing my observations about the Hobbit but I think it is not enough since I was not able to expose myself to all of its functions and my technical knowledge is limited (i'm a newbie). So, I think it would be better if I can get the information I need from the Hobbit developer himself. Thank you very much and I am looking forward for your kind approval of my request. Requesting a common encrypted port number for hobbit client/server

Just and idea, port 1984 over the years got recognized by some kind of Internet organization as default port for bb client/server communication port. Should we (hobbit community) pursue a common port number for hobbit client/server encrypted communication ? I see the need but don't how to get this done. which port number to use ? who(which entity) to ask ? I am using port 1999 for my testing purpose for now. T.J. stopped reporting problem

I have consistently been getting "stopped reporting" problems on a regular basis lately. I am running Hobbit 4.2.0. I have found a couple of resources that suggest configuration changes to allow more connections and messages, I have done these but they have not solved the problem. Any other things I can try?
