Asked a question a little while back about this on the bbwin user list and thought I'd share in case anyone else might have a use for it. See the attached file for explanation and such. Save this to the BBWIN\bin directory and add the appropriate line under the cfg file (explained in the comments at the top of this script). Note that this code assumes the compress.exe utility (from the Ms Resource Tools kit) is present in the PATH, but it can be easily altered to something else (this script backs up the info to the BBWIN\logs directory - this functionality is easy enough to strip out, see script for details). Hello Etienne, I tried installing bbwin 0.11 on a few windows systems, centralized mode, only to have hobbitd_client crash (snapshot from 2008-01-22). Attempts at using today's snapshot resulted in some rather strange effects: - The files and msgs were combined for all systems (linux + win) and totally messed up - The hobbit-ghosts.c failed to compile (used 2008-01-22 version). bbwin in local configuration is working OK so far. Problems with recent snapshots

Hello, I'm running this test setup: 1. A server running Solaris 9 and the latest hobbit snapshot (downloaded and installed today), and 2. a client running Windows 2003 with BBWin 0.11 This seems to work using central configuration of the BBWin client, with a few problems: 1. In the msgs column, the output from the BBWin client and the local client on the server gets mixed up in the web pages. I can see /var/adm/messages as well as eventlog entries in the same web page. Also there is a large blank space at the top ot the page. The client data seems ok. 2. The hobbitclient.sh script, which should run hobbitclinet-sunos.sh, tries to run hobbitclient-SunOS.sh which doesn'nt exist. The problem is in this line: BBOSSCRIPT="hobbitclient-`uname -s | tr '[A-Z/]' '[a-z_]'`.sh" In an older version this line reads BBOSSCRIPT="hobbitclient-`uname -s | tr '[A-Z]' '[a-z]'`.sh" which works, so it seems that tr doesn't like the added / to _ conversion. BBgen core dumps after applying patches

Not sure who I should notify, but I went ahead and applied the allinone patch as well as the bbwin patch to the 4.2.0 source and recompiled. Make and make install worked., But when I restarted hobbit I noticed my main page wasn't updating and bbgen button said program crashed. I tried to execute bbgen with no arguments and it aborted with a core dump. I built again without the patch, and just copied bbgen to my working server, and that seems to be working so far. I still have the bbgen binary that is coredumping... I am running the hobbit server on a Suse 10.1 machine. Thanks, Taylor

Hobbit Patching HowTo

I just downloaded and setup hobbit 4.2.0 then read about the allinone patch. My question is, do you need to recompile hobbit after applying the patch, and if you do so what all do you need to do so you keep all your config data, i.e. bb-hosts, etc... Thanks, Taylor

Massive URL breaks hobbitd_rrd

Hiya, I'm tasked with the job of monitoring an address with a rather large URL, as follows (domain name altered for brevity): 192.168.0.1 webserver.soap # cont;https://webserver=192.168.0.1/booking/searchrec.action?searchrecModel.hotelCode=UKPID&searchrec Model.day=8&searchrecModel.month=1&searchrecModel.year=2009&searchrecModel.nights=1&searchrecModel.numOfRooms=1&searchrecModel.chainCode=IQ&avai labilityModel.roomRequirementList[0].adults=1&searchrecModel.roomRequirementList[0].children=0&searchrecModel.roomRequirementList[0].smoking=false&availa bilityModel.roomRequirementList[0].cot=false&searchrecModel.roomRequirementList[0].occupancy=SINGLE;pleased noconn It works and appears green in hobbit, but hobbitd_rrd crashes shortly afterwards. I've tried escaping the &, [ and ] characters, but that doesn't appear to help. Is it simply that the URL is too long? Thanks, Giles

Monitoring Backups

Hello All, We have several client sites with servers that run backups which we would like to monitor in Hobbit. We are not running the BBWin client on most of these servers and would like to avoid going that route. Instead the servers send email alerts to a mailbox on our Exchange 2007 server (x64). Our current plan is to write a script that will look at the incoming emails and trigger events in Hobbit based on the content of the email. We will also trigger alerts if we don't get email for X amount of time. Below are the two potential methods I have found. 1) Install BBWin on the Exchange server and have the alerts sent by the script that processes the emails using BBWinCmd. Not sure if this is even possible or is it possible without using BBWinCmd? The documentation says that BBWin is a diag/test tool. Can we use the hostname parameter to specify which BB-Hosts entry this message should apply to (I think yes)? I know BBWin is not fully working on x64 so this option is probably not a good idea until then, however, in the long term it seems preferred over method 2 below. 2) Have the Exchange server script send files (ftp or SMB) to the Hobbit server. These files will then be processed by a server side script which could use bbhostgrep to check the files and send the alerts into Hobbit. I figure we are not the first to try and do something like this so any other experiences or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Monitoring sendmail queue on linux machines

Hi, If you would need to monitor sendmail queue with hobbit, would you have to use a custom script to do so ? I quickly went over the documentation and could not find anything with regards to monitoring sendmail ? selinux policy

Replicating Hobbit Server

Hello, I'm setting up a redundant Hobbit server. It's working, but I'm missing about three days in the graphs. Three days ago was when I tar'd the other install up and copied it to the other server. I then do an rsync of the data directory from the current hobbit server, but it still doesn't show current graphs after the rsync, it shows three days missing. What am I missing? Thanks..James
