Xymon hosts database.

I think I have posted this quite a while ago but it is still on my mind. We currently configure the hosts, pages etc using a windows database and windows front end that I wrote quite some time ago. I keep getting the urge to convert it to a linux database and a web frontend. However I would not do this if there is no interest in using it. The point is that you never touch the bb-hosts file and all configuration of hosts and layouts is done via a user interface. Is there any interest in this? Is there anyone willing to help? If so I was going to convert to mysql and either php or perl cgi. Any comments on this? We have 400 odd hosts here and have pages split by priority, service, location, and support group all on the front page but all configured via the database. [hobbit] BBALPHAMSG max size?

BBALPHAMSG has a max size of 4096. Here are my MSG settings: ../etc/hobbitserver.cfg:MAXMSG_STATUS=2048 # maximum size of a "status" message in kB, default: 256 ../etc/hobbitserver.cfg:MAXMSG_CLIENT=2048 # maximum size of a "client" message in kB, default: 512 ../etc/hobbitserver.cfg:MAXMSG_DATA=2048 # maximum size of a "data" message in kB, default: 256 Do those MSG settings have anything at all to do with BBALPHAMSG? I am thinking no. I need more from BBALPHAMSG because I am parsing the variable for the red and yellow alarms. If you have a fairly long 'procs' list for instance and your red or yellow alarm are near the bottom of the list, you will not be able to extract the alarming procs. Is my only choice to increase the limit in the source and recompile? Anyone else run into this problem and solve it? Xymon version 4.2.2 RC1 available

I've just made the release-candidate of version 4.2.2 available for download on Sourceforge. https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=128058&package_id=14… This is how I would expect the interim 4.2.2 release to be. It includes the following changes from 4.2.0: *) Due to the Hobbit project being renamed to Xymon (for legal reasons), the documentation has been updated to refer to this as the name of the project. *) All patches from the "all-in-one" patch have been applied *) Patches from Debian and Mandriva source archives and elsewhere have been merged, fixing: - The "Critical Systems" configuration report would crash when hosts were in NKview.cfg, but no NK tags were in bb-hosts (from Mandriva) - SSL certificates with 4-digit expiration years would crash the network tester (from Debian) - Newer OpenLDAP versions have a different API, so the LDAP test code would not build correctly (from Debian) - Old Big Brother clients report disk output with no header line (from Debian) - The bb-hosts syntax for HTTP testing via a proxy could not support https target-URL's (from Debian) - Certain SuSE versions would not be identified by the Linux client as such (only affected OS name displayed in the "info" status). *) Support for sending custom graph data in a "trends" data message (from http://www.hswn.dk/hobbiton/2007/01/msg00236.html) *) Split-NCV and TRACKMAX support for custom graphs (from http://www.hobbitmon.com/hobbiton/2007/03/msg00368.htm) *) Support for the "BBWin" client http://bbwin.sf.net/ in centralized (server-side) configuration mode. This will be included in the final 4.2.2 release. Please test this if you can, and report problems to the mailing list. Hi all, I am a hobbit newby. I have a question about the PROC test: is there a way to define a test about the presence of a particular proc executed by a particular user? I'm in a situation where I have some daemons that could be started by a lot of (machine)users and so I would like to check the user the proc run as. Thanks in advance Marco

[Hobbit] URLPlus interest - looking for feedback

For those of you who have been around here for a while, you will have noticed that I've been somewhat absent of late. The short story is, I have changed jobs and just don't get as many opportunities to check in as I used to. This also means I have left my reasons for working on URLPlus behind, which is why development of it has stopped. The purpose of this post is because I have gotten a few requests from time to time about URLPlus, and I'm curious what the interest in me getting back to developing it would be. I've been out of the loop as far as new features in the latest version of Hobbit being worked on, but from what I understand, while there are more web page monitoring features built-in, there are still some things where URLPlus could be useful. So, I would be interested in the following feedback: 1) Is there still demand for more robust website content checking features than what Hobbit supports out of the box? 2) If so, what are the features missing in Hobbit that people are looking for? 3) For those who have chosen to use URLPlus, what are the reasons for that, versus using some other Hobbit plugin (or for that matter, some other monitoring tool)? 4) Finally, for those that are using URLPlus, what additional features would you like to see it be capable of doing? -Gary

Hi I am running Xymon 4.2.2-RC1-2008.12.01 and have a problem with some, but not all browsers. The problem occurs, then I go to Trends and selects the magnifying glass ican. The graph displayed for zooming is displayed and immediately coveret with a blue square. This occurs in: firefox 3.5 and Opera 9.64 This does not occur in: firefox 3.0, Crome 2.0.172.37 and IE 8.0.6001 All hints are appreciated. Best regards Harald Villemoes

Monitoring SMB shares

I want a "shares" column to show up for each file server that has smb shares indicating whether or not the shares are accessible. In a perfect world, I would like to monitor these SMB shares from the xymon server itself vs from a client. In my mind, the xymon server would have a server side script that would allow me to add "shares:Public", "shares:Users", etc. to the listings in BB-HOSTS. In fact, I had found this solution on DeadCat called "shares" that is meant to be setup on a BB server. However, it mentioned editing bbdef.sh to include shares.sh in the BBEXT variable and I just didn't know where to do this in Xymon Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

dbcheck for RAC connections refused
