Monitoring hosts behind a load balancer

Greetings, I'm monitoring several Solaris 10 servers which are behind an F5 load balancer. One of the features of the F5 is that it answers pings for all of the hosts behind it, even if they are all down. Has anyone devised a method of testing the servers for being alive in this context? There are no other network based tests being done. Yes, all of the other tests eventually go purple in Xymon, but we'd like to know that the hosts are down when that happens. I placed both the data pair and the who info in the same 'status' call to 'bb' and the graph stops. The graph does not go away, the data points stop being accepted. As long as I send the data to one icon and the graph pairs to another, it works. I am running 4.3.0-0.beta2 on CentOS. NFS mounts in disk section

Is it possible to show these mounts like partitions in disk section? Trying to create a graph

All assistance is greatly appreciated! I have a simple number that I want to have graphed in Xymon. Running 4.3.0-0.beta2 on CentOS 5.4. I have a script that is populating the information from our Juniper SSLVPN device(s). I created a new ICON 'online' where there is a lot of information passed for display by clicking the 'online' icon. This is done using 'bb' with 'status'. One of the values displayed is the number of web users. I create a file of values for a history but I want to pass the value from each run to the Xymon as 'data' to 'bb'. The pair from each run is: USERS:277 with the 277 changing with every 5 minute run. The xymon ssh test reports the remote protocol and software versions, so it must converse at least that far, but I guess it doesn't go on through the key exchange. The ssh server going wrong that way seems to be a familiar failure mode for our linux boxes, so it would be nice to have a test for it in xymon. An ssh identity that's allowed to run some single very restricted command would work. Actually ssh-keyscan does the trick too, and doesn't require any logging in or permission on the host. The only trick is ssh-keyscan exits with status 0 whether it succeeded or not, so it would have to be used in a script that actually parses its output to see if it worked. Dustin's script that does ssh-keyscan for updating the keys list could be a useful starting point. _____________________________________________________________________ Robert P. Anyone Using qpage (SMS Send Tool) With Xymon

Hello; Anyone out there successfully using qpage? I've read the "Configuring Xymon Alerts" help page, and am unable to get this working. I've installed qpage, and am having some issues getting it to work. I can send SMS pages via the command-line, so I know it is working, I am unable to send when setup in hobbit-alerts.cfg as: SCRIPT /usr/local/bin/sendsms UserName FORMAT=SMS SERVICE=cpu,disk COLOR=red,yellow RECOVERED REPEAT=1440 DURATION>90s Here is /usr/local/bin/sendsms: #!/bin/sh /usr/local/bin/qpage -l0 -m -p $* I've tried $1 and $*, both are inoperable. Hobbit falsely shows red alerts periodically

Hello Everyone ! I have recently setup a Hobbit/Xymon server and went beyond monitoring just CONN and have ensured DNS, LDAP, RDP, SSH, MYSQL, Squid, and VMWARE are also monitored. To my odd surprise these added services for Hobbit/Xymon were going into red and back into green very quickly and about every 3 minutes. When I see the red alerts and click on the specific monitored host and corresponding service, it says it's UP and it's OK but the uptime has reset. I'm basically running the default config out of a fresh install, what could be causing this? I do not believe the connections are actually down. Running on UBUNTU 10.04 with Apache Server version: Apache/2.2.14 (Ubuntu) Server built: Apr 13 2010 20:22:19 Attached are screenshots. Thanks, -Steven

Fedora 8 Problem

Hi All I got a old Fedora 8 box that I installed the xymon client on. I used the RHEL packages provided by Buchan Milne(thanks for the local mirror) and installed the xymon client using yum install xymon-client. However when I run the runclient.sh I don't get any results I looked into the /logs directory and found the following error. Could not connect to bbd at 127.0.0.1:1984 - Connection refused The install did not ask me for a BBhost file so I think the install might have skipped this part. How do I change where the client is reporting to? I looked at all the files in the client/etc directory but could not find anything. Regards Neil
