TS - Problem with the alert UP messages?

I am running 4.3.0-0.beta2 on CentOS 5.4. I have been writing a smaller output for UP, DOWN, DISABLED for use by our blackberrys. Since the blackberry has access to the inside network, it can do an ACK of a device. I include a link to a page that they can do the ACK from quickly. I have a device that answers a ping running for this test. I have a MAIL and a SCRIPT entry in the hobbit-alerts.cfg file for the device. bb-hosts entry: 128.170.99.99 Tom-Cisco-7940 # conn hobbit-alerts.cfg entries: HOST=Tom-Cisco-7940 RECOVERED MAIL D.Tom.Schmitt at l-3com.com REPEAT=365d SEQUENCE OF EVENTS: Unplug the device - DOWN DISABLE the device Plug in the device - UP For the MAIL entry - DOWN: (blank lines removed and the 'See' link line) SUBJECT: Hobbit [885819] Tom-Cisco-7940:conn CRITICAL (RED) red Wed Jun 30 14:13:32 2010 conn NOT ok Service conn on Tom-Cisco-7940 is not OK : Host does not respond to ping System unreachable for 2 poll periods (200 seconds) &red 128.170.7.47 is unreachable For the MAIL entry - At time of DISABLE: SUBJECT: Hobbit Tom-Cisco-7940:conn recovered red Wed Jun 30 14:15:33 2010 conn NOT ok Service conn on Tom-Cisco-7940 is not OK : Host does not respond to ping System unreachable for 3 poll periods (321 seconds) &red 128.170.7.47 is unreachable For the MAIL entry - At time of UP/RESTORAL: Here is the rub: There is no RECOVERED message - already sent for the DISABLE event above. The system never calls MAIL or SCRIPT statements again. If you don't do the DISABLE, then you get DOWN and UP messages as expected. Is this a BUG or a FEATURE L Can anyone try this on their system to see if I have the problem? I don't want to work on the source code. I could start a background job that will watch for a BLUE to green change and lookup those to notify in the hobbit-alerts.cfg file and send them a simple notice: XXX is back up at date-time Any thoughts please! Sorry to bother you again, with regular expression-questions :-( I want to count and track the processes on my lustreserver e.g. .... ll_ost_io_98 ll_ost_io_123 ll_ost_io_124 . . and ... ll_ost_87 ll_ost_123 . . ... How can i exclude "ll_ost_io_" for counting the "ll_ost_XX" processes ... e.g. hobbit-client.conf PROC ll_ost_io 0 -1 TRACK=ll_ost_io PROC "%ll_ost_[???]" 0 -1 TRACK=ll_ost doesn't work, of course :-( thanks in advance & cheers, martin

alert for different partitions

Hi ! Is it possible to configure alerting for different partitions/disks on a fileserver to/for different group-admins ? e.g. On my fileserver there are luns for different groups /dev/mapper/ddn_lun1 7811405140 7301180228 119533280 99% /ost/hh_A_0 /dev/mapper/ddn_lun2 7811405140 7359390896 61322612 100% /ost/hh_B_0 /dev/mapper/ddn_lun3 7811405140 7360586140 60127368 100% /ost/hh_B_2 /dev/mapper/ddn_lun4 7811405140 6983365056 437348452 95% /ost/hh_C_0 So, i want to inform the group-admins of B that their space is empty dev/mapper/ddn_lun2 7811405140 7359390896 61322612 100% /ost/hh_B_0 /dev/mapper/ddn_lun3 7811405140 7360586140 60127368 100% /ost/hh_B_2 but don't want to bother the other group-admins of A and C ... thanks in advance & cheers, martin

"virtual hosts" for combined graphs?

I created a small script that scrapes info from several hosts/rrd's (connections to a particular IIS site) and puts it in a combined graph (see attached sample). I'm curious if it's possible to somehow create a "virtual host" in hobbit and use the hobbitgraph.cgi functions to create the graphs so I can also have the zoom & history functions. Booking new scripts into Xymon

Hi All I am almost done with the scripts I talked about before. Is there any special requirements to upload these to the Xymon community? Is there a QA function or something like that? Here is what I have: 1) ASP.NET overall health(VBS Script and graph definitions) 2) ASP.NET Application Specific Scripts (VBS Script and graph definitions) 3) SQL Server(Microsoft) DBA type performance pack (rather large graph definition) On another note I have been able to interface with Xymon via telnet and using Wireshark learned some basics about the protocol. Once I am a little more clued up I will upload some docs for the Wiki. At this point I would also like to look at taking Xymon HTML pages a little further. While AJAX and web 2.0 technologies would be great I feel that for the moment I could probably add some value in making it a little easier to customize via CSS. I am not a web designer by trade but I think I can add some value in making this front end a little more configurable. Anyway if anyone can just let me know what the procedures are for contributing to the project and I will gladly give the time that xymon has saved me back into the project. Kind Regards Neil Franken

Hi, I'm using GlusterFS on my systems and got some troubles with it. Actually, I got a situation on 2 of my servers where glusterfs crashed with a core-dump and umout my volumes. Is there a solution, in Xymon, to monitor when a filesystem disappear from the "df" output ? In the documentation, the DISK directive has to be followed with 2 values for "yellow" and "red" alerts. But what's happening if I don't set these 2 values ? Sincerly, Thomas

Active Directory Check?

Hello; I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for how I might be able to test several AD Domains and show the results in Xymon? One of my AD domains became unresponsive today due to DNS (not Microsoft DNS) and the delay in notifying us caused lots of heartache. I did see Buchan's OpenLDAP tests, not sure if that is the right way to go, or even if it will work. Thanks, .vp

Disable CIFS/NFS

Is there a way of disabling CIFS and NFS disk monitoring from the hobbit client from checking thses ?, I have a few CIFS mount that are showing 20TB and the server only has 500GB and it showing red, so I tried in the ignore function according to the documentation and dosnt seem to work or I am just doing something completely wrong. Any advise would be appricated.
