Hi all For all of you that are using the diskstat.ksh I posted on Xymonton 2 weeks ago, heads-up! Following in the grand tradition that every useful program will contain at least one variable, one loop and one bug, my script must be useful. It contained a rather severe bug. Some of the more observant may have noticed that the graphs for "Percent of Time Waiting" exceeded 100 from time to time. Odd, no? OK, here's what happened. Check the for loop that kicks off around line 32. There is one less element than columns in the output of iostat -xrn The missing column is wsvc_t (average service time in wait queue, in milliseconds) Oddly enough, this column is omitted in the output of iostat -xr and only makes its appearance when -n is used. Which is the cause of my mistake. The original first draft of the script used -xr, and then changed to use -n to get more useful device names. (and then had to do some creative awking to get the device names back to the first column) Compare iostat -x | head to iostat -xn | head Methinks this is a Solaris bug. I can't think of any valid reason for the column mismatch. So, if you are using the diskstat test, all values for the last 3 graphs will be wrong. They are "Average Response Time of Transaction", "Percent of Time Waiting" and "Percent of Time Disk Busy" How to fix this. First of all, change line 32 of diskstat.ksh from for subtest in reads writes kreads kwrites wait actv svct pw pb to for subtest in reads writes kreads kwrites wait actv *wsvc *svct pw pb Update hobbitgraph.cfg with the new graph definition. [diskstat-wsvc] FNPATTERN diskstat-wsvc,(.*).rrd TITLE Average Number of Transactions Waiting YAXIS Total -l 0 DEF:p at RRDIDX@=@RRDFN@:lambda:AVERAGE LINE2:p at RRDIDX@#@COLOR@:@RRDPARAM@ GPRINT:p at RRDIDX@:LAST: \: %5.1lf (cur) GPRINT:p at RRDIDX@:MAX: \: %5.1lf (max) GPRINT:p at RRDIDX@:MIN: \: %5.1lf (min) GPRINT:p at RRDIDX@:AVERAGE: \: %5.1lf (avg)\n Add the new test to hobbitserver.cfg TEST2RRD= gets the extra diskstat-wsvc=ncv GRAPHS= gets diskstat-wsvc::7 And we need to add another line for SPLIT_NCV SPLITNCV_diskstat-wsvc="*:GAUGE" I have updated Xymonton already, so you could just grab the new version there. For those concerned with hanging onto their old data, you could do the following. Rename all diskstat-svct*.rrd to diskstat-wsvc*.rrd Rename all diskstat-pw*.rrd to diskstat-svct*.rrd Rename all diskstat-pb*.rrd to diskstat-pw*.rrd The exact command is left as an exercise for the reader. Of course, all the data that should be in diskstat-pb*.rrd, is lost. Gone forever. (Never retained, to be more correct) Or you could just trash diskstat-svct*.rrd, diskstat-pw*.rrd and diskstat-pb*.rrd and start over. It's only been 12 days, at most. function of Class-names

Hi ! Is it right, that the Class-names function only works for log-file-monitoring and nothing else ? http://www.xymon.com/hobbit/help/manpages/man5/bb-hosts.5.html CLASS:Classname Force the host to belong to a specific class. Class-names are used when configuring log-file monitoring (they can be used as references in client-local.cfg(5) and hobbit-clients.cfg(5) to group logfile checks). Normally, class-names are controlled on the client by starting the Xymon client with the "--class=Classname" option. If you specify it in the bb-hosts file on the Xymon server, it overrides any classname that the client reports. And if that's true, is it possible to tag machines with something similiar in the bb-hosts, for classification in special groups to monitor ? e.g. tags for hardware-type, farm-node, working-server .... I've got a lot of farm-nodes and Workgroupserver, but each group ( linux and solaris, also OS indepented ) have to monitor different .. and a lot of machines are placed in various page and subpages .... .. i don't want to write each page/subpage in hobbit-clients.cfg/ client-local.cfg/hobbit-alert.cfg, that is much work and would be confusing some times .. thanks & cheers martin

Has anybody ported this script to ksh93? I made some changes to get it half running but perhaps someone has done a more thorough and complete job who knows the differences between the older and newer Korn shells? ~David Gore

Hi all Just posted an iostat add-on, with graphing goodness to http://xymonton.trantor.org/doku.php/monitors:diskstat.ksh Something interesting, for perverse values of interesting, is myself and Roland Soderstrom were discussing it in the thread titled custom check / graphs with multiple rrd files. None of my last 3 posts to that thread have appeared in the list archive. This is not the first time this has happened to me. It's beginning to look that posts are dropping off threads if the thread gets too long. Is this a mailing list issue, or a Gmail issue? Anybody else with Gmail experience this? Regards Vernon

Sorry I can't reply to the thread for some reason i quit receiving the emails, I checked the archive and noticed the replies to my former thread. ( thanks ! ) Vernon, since I don't run solaris here, only linux and some tru64, the -r ( csv output ) and -n ( friendly names ) options makes it hard to use your shell script since they either don't exists or don't work the same. Can you perhaps provide a same output of "iostat -xrn" and along with formated text you pass to hobbit in your check. I can then provide a snippet of code for linux, which would provide the equivalent output. So you could just add a case in the shell script. case `uname` in Linux) /usr/bin/iostat -x $DURATION 2 | wonderful stuff > $TEMPFILE.raw ;; SunOS) /usr/bin/iostat -xrn $DURATION 2 > $TEMPFILE.raw ;; esac -- Dan

Xymon Client Permission Denied

Hi, I am trying to install Xymon client on AIX, SUN, HP and Linux machine. Client is working fine on Linux but when I am trying to run ./runclient.sh start on all other OS, I am getting the following error: ./runclient.sh: /xymon/client/bin/hobbitlaunch: 0403-006 Execute permission denied. BBwin and role-based views

Hi Guys, I am writing my own KPI(named “ABL_CB_ERROR.sh”) and keep it into the /export/home/xymon /client/script/ path and configure it into “clientlaunch.cfg” file in Agent(Client) side and also configure bb-host configuration file in the Collector(Server) side. In the “ABL_CB_ERROR.sh” file very first line it is giving following error: /export/home/xymon/client/script/ABL_CB_ERROR.sh: DEBUG=N: is not an identifier “ABL_CB_ERROR.sh” file look like: Version=1.0a # Debug-Mode ?
