hello as far as I understand the new link between devmon and xymon for rrd has changed. - no more extra rrd script and test for if_load => xymon create the right if_load(.*).rrd file I see in xymonserver.cfg : if_load=devmon but no devmon entry in any rrd definition : [root at laptop xymon-4.3.0.beta3]# grep -ri "\[devmon\]" * and the old rrd definition don't match the one. in and out for the old version ds1 and ds2 for the new one. Where can I find the new rrd definition for devmon. many thx oau

CPU, disk usage data

Hi I set up xymon on a linux server. However, I am not able to monitor the cpu and disk usage information. Here is what I did: - in the bb-hosts file, I have the following entry: ip address hostname - in the hobbitclients.cfg, I have the following entries: UP 1h LOAD 5.0 10.0 ... Can you please let me know if there are additional entries I need to make to display cpu and disk usage? Thanks -- Sridhar

urlplus.pl / xymongrep

Hi, I'm trying to implement urlplus.pl with xymon 4.3.0-beta3. But urlplus.pl complains: "SSGIS01 not defined in bb-hosts - skipping". I'm using include-files for the server definitions. A grep shows a definition, a call to xymongrep shows no output: "xymon at linux-dmcl:~/server> grep -i urlplus etc/hosts* etc/hosts_Windows_Steinfurt:10.45.64.61 SSGIS01 # urlplus xymon at linux-dmcl:~/server> bin/xymongrep urlplus xymon at linux-dmcl:~/server> bin/xymongrep urlplus SSGIS01" Does xymongrep have a problem with include files (despite the man page saying otherwise) or do I need to correct some variables in urlplus.pl? How to get the Absolutely essential result "PS".

Hi All, I configured in Server side : "hobbitserver.cfg" as follows: PS="ps -aef | egrep "process1 | process2"" Also i configured in Client side : "hobbitclient.cfg" as follows: PS="ps -aef | egrep "process1 | process2"" After that i restart xymon client and server both. But still i got the result of: PS="ps ax" I am unable to get the result of: PS="ps -aef | egrep "process1 | process2"" Kindly provide solution regarding this. With Regards, Jayanta.

Hi, In XYMON main page, procs column frequently showing red color, because of full following details not comming: PID PPID USER STARTED S PRI %CPU TIME %MEM RSZ VSZ CMD --- ------ -------- ------------- -- ----- ----- - .......................... .............. --- ------ -------- ------------- -- ----- ----- - .......................... .............. I configured 5 process in a particular server into "hobbit-clients.cfg" file. In the full list sometime 3 process details appears out of 5, sometime 2. Customisation and Migration from BB->Xymon

Hi all, We are currently looking at moving from BB to xymon. I've been wanting to move us over to Xymon for ages and am excited by the fact I finally have enough management backing to undertake the shift! I've read as much as I can find and the discussion in http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/System_Monitoring_with_Xymon/Other_Docs/FAQ#Q.… was quite helpful in many ways, but I still have some questions that I'd like to ask.... We currently have a Operations center that gets to watch a couple of different monitoring products, BB being one of them. The BB implementation was historically customised in a couple of ways, some of which can be dropped but a couple below would be significant to Operations. * Is there a way of displaying all currently RED or PURPLE (no Yellow) alerts without playing with the source? * Currently, operations only perform an escalation on RED/PURPLE alerts, so it seems that a hack was done to the bbgen/pagegen.c code that created the bbnk pages such that for ALL hosts it only displayed hosts which had Red or Purple alerts on them. Can something like this be done natively with Xymon without needing to configure each host separately? This almost looks like something the Critical Editor/view should be able to provide? * Is there a simple way to still have "unregistered" hosts show up in the "bb2" page? * The other one would be the fact that we often have new clients installed by the admins without the BB admin being informed expeditiously. With BB these would still show up in bb2.html. With the bbgen implementation, a method was found to provide a similar result, but it relies on the files in bbvar/logs to do it (which don't exist by default with Xymon). Also any hints or tips about migration and/or migration approach would be great. Is there anything special about creating an "Active/Active" Xymon environment for redundancy? Some background information about the environment in case it helps. About 1,000 entries in bb-hosts about 50% are Windows/Unix boxes and 50% network kit. One of the drivers for migration is an expectation of an additional 50-80% increase in servers through more intergration. Currently running BB 1.9c server (on AIX) with 1.9c clients on AIX, RHEL and a small amount of Solaris. Windows clients currently run a BB client of 1.08d. Using bbgen-3.6 to create the web pages. Operations alert on Red and Purple's the Yellows are currently used by the local support towers to do more pro-active fixes before Operations needs to escalate. The idea is to move to Xymon on RHEL most likely starting on a VMWare guest environment. Regards J

Is setting high importance on alert emails possible?

Hey all, I doubt I can do this but maybe someone knows a trick... I'd like to be able to send email alerts with a high importance flag based on the alert color and/or specific server or service that is down. Is there any way to do this? I've scoured the man pages but can't find anything.
