Xymon reports excessive memory usage on 1 SLES 11 host

Hi, I have a weird problem on one of my SLES 11 hosts: Tue Dec 14 03:00:52 CET 2010 - Memory CRITICAL Memory Used Total Percentage [cid:image001.gif at 01CB9B73.C1882320] Physical 3803M 3829M 99% [cid:image002.gif at 01CB9B73.C1882320] Actual 17592186044128M 3829M459445966156% [cid:image001.gif at 01CB9B73.C1882320] Swap 0M 2055M 0% - as you can see, it reports an excessive memory usage, and hence turns red and does this 2 times each night. It's the 4.2.3 client compiled under SLES 11. Any ideas? Regards, Carl Melgaard

Building the client on Mac OS X 10.6 -> success

Hi I tried to compile the xymon client on Mac OS X 10.6 and ran into the same problem that was reported about a year ago[1]. The problem comes from a namespace collision because the system include files on the Mac now have a file called Availability.h which is meant to be included by /usr/include/stdlib.h . However, xymon has a file lib/availability.h which gets included instead. Unfortunately, the default behaviour for the Mac HFS+ file system is to ignore case so the two files get mixed up. The solution to this is fairly simple. Just drop the -I. from the CFLAGS options. Having -I. should not be necessary anyway because the preprocessor differentiates between #include <file.h> and #include "file.h" precisely to separate system includes from project includes. Once this problem is solved, there are two more problems that will arise. The first one would be the same on all platforms whenever xymon is built without SSL support (not needed on the client). In lib/sendmsg.c TALK_SSLWRITE_RECEIVE will be referenced even though the enum only goes up to TALK_RECEIVE when HAVE_OPENSSL is not defined. The second problem ist with the zlib where the dynamic library for Mac OS X is in /usr/lib/libz.dylib which does not get search. Critical view and DESCR field

Is there a way in xymon-4.3.0.beta3 to drop the DESCR field appearing next to the hostname on the Critical Systems view? There is not much room for test columns if the hostname + DESCR are long. Can it not behave like the --tooltips option on xymongen? Search engine is back

By popular demand, I've setup a search facility for the Xymon mail archive. The previous one used ht://Dig, which was not very good at finding the right stuff, and also very hard on the load of the system. That's why I removed it when the mailing list was moved from "hobbit" to "xymon". The new search facility uses Omega, which is based on the Xapian engine. It's Open Source, appears to provide reasonable results, and very light on the system since it can be configured to only index updates. So I hope this will make the mail archive more useful. Static vs Dynamic IP Address for Network Tests

I'm using Xymon 4.3.0-0.beta2. I have a server with a static address listed in bb-hosts as <static ip> <hostname>. The server was reconfigured to use DHCP and it acquired a new, different dynamic IP. I didn't make any changes to the bb-hosts file but xymon didn't seem to care the server's address had changed. It began testing the host with it's new IP address like nothing was different. Historical data is all there, no alarm was triggered. I understand the hostname correctly resolves to the new IP but I don't understand why xymon isn't trying to test the old static IP, and why it didn't give some indication the address had changed. It just so happens that I'm glad it went smooth but I expected to have to reconfigure the bb-hosts file; specifically, to change the <static ip> field for that host to 0.0.0.0. Can anyone explain this behavior, and how to get xymon to alert if a host with a static IP address has it's IP changed? Thanks
