dbcheck for RAC connections refused

Hi ! FILES directory test not graphing

Hey all, I did a search, but these are rather generic terms, so I'm hoping someone has seen this. When a directory is added to the FILES test, it doesn't graph properly, even though the data is appearing at the bottom of the graph image. Any suggestions on what to tweak, how to troubleshoot this? Default templates in devmon distribution

All, There are templates being distributed in the general template package with a sysdescr of "Linux" (see dell-perc, for example). This just caused me to waste way too much time at one point trying to figure out why my custom template was not being matched properly... once I walked away and came back, I immediately realized that devmon was matching my Netgear ReadyNAS 1100 and STM-300 to the "dell-perc" template (the empty RAID columns should have tipped me off right away). When looked, the spec file was matching on "Linux". So too, does the compaq-server spec file. I'm posting this as an awareness point for users, as I think it is kind of difficult to find any string more likely to be returned as part of a system description than "Linux". I also strongly recommend that devmon template authors use something else in their spec files to trigger device matches, and to think about the overall uniqueness of the strings they are using. Special bb-hosts file just for reporting

Is there any way that I can have a special customized bb-hosts file that I use just for generating an availability report? For example, I want to have a bb-hosts file that has friendly COMMENT tags, etc and that is grouped the way that our service catalog is grouped. This way I can generate an availability report that makes sense when demonstrating to the executive team. However, I want the layout of my normal monitoring system to be layed out logically in the way that makes sense to our IT team. how to define a catch-all in hobbit-alerts.cfg

I have rules defined for many of my 300+ hosts ( a mix of windows and unix servers scattered throughout, and interleaved across, multiple pages. I want to define a default rule for hosts so that, for example, every conn alert goes to my unix administrators. I have experimented with several solutions which do not yield the desired result. e.g.: HOST=* EXHOST=<> # I can't explicitly list all hosts (too many) and tried macros consisting of wildcard host names MAIL ... HOST=* EXHOST=<> MAIL ... UNMATCHED if I use only HOST=* then I end up with multiple (sometimes redundant) recipients for some hosts and no recipients for hosts not previously explicitly defined. Help? thanks

logfetch "trigger" option doesn't appear to work as documented

Hi all, it seems the logfetch "trigger" option doesn't work as documented for our clients. We have configured in client-local.cfg: [servera] log:/var/adm/messages:10240 trigger scsi And in hobbit-clients.cfg: HOST=servera LOG /var/adm/messages "%scsi: WARNING" COLOR=RED My understanding is that because of the option "trigger", that the client should send all lines in the log file with the pattern "scsi" in it to the xymon server. In my experience however this is not the case and it just sends the last 10240 bytes. Have I configured something incorrectly or does the trigger command not work? I have also checked on the client that the logfetch cfg file contains the trigger option, which it does. Many thanks, James.

Problem converting 32 bit disk-rrd's to 64 bit

Hello, not exactly a hobbit problem, but as I am using rrd only with hobbit: I am converting my old hobbit/xymon server to a new one Copying just the data/rrd directory results in the message "ERROR: This RRD was created on another architecture". So I used "rrdtool dump <file>.rrd > <file>.xml" on the old and "rrdtool restore <file>.xml <file>.rrd -f" on the new server. Using the "--no-header" option to rrddump makes no difference. No error messages during the restore and no errors when I call the web pages. The new disk values in the rrd graphs are only 1/10 of the original size, e. g. a disk which is 82 % filled, shows up with only 8 %.. The text lines generated from the client data are correct. Connection Refused

I just set up a new server to connect to my hobbit server for monitoring. I can see conn, info and trends but nothing else. When I check the hobbitclient.log on the client server I see the following error: Could not connect to bbd at 127.0.0.1:1984 - Connection refused I have checked /etc/hosts , bb-hosts, and uname and the names all match.
