Hi! We have just started using Xymon/Hobbit and netapp.pl to monitor two Netapps, and have set the quota monitoring limits like this in netapp.ini: /vol/s50/saa4Q = 10G:101% thinking (after reading the comments in netapp.ini) that this would give a warning when there is 10G of free disk space (and a red alarm if it ever reaches 101%) But we get alarms like this: /vol/s50/saa4 (5.2G free - 2.60%) has reached the defined WARNING level (10G) while the actual data are: Full Qtree Path Total Used Available %Used Vol/Qtree /vol/s50/saa4 200.0G 5.2G 194.8G 3% s50/saa4 So the script obviously takes the 10G warning limit as a limit of disk usage, not available space. This seems to be contrary to the explanation in netapp.pl: " # NEW [filername] parameters for netapp.pl version 1.05 # /vol/vol0D = warn:panic # Warning/Panic level for disk space /vol/vol0 # /vol/vol0I = warn:panic # Warning/Panic level for inode usage /vol/vol0 # /vol/vol0/.snapshotS = warn:panic # Warning/Panic level for snapshot /vol/vol0/.snapshot # /vol/vol0/qtree1Q = warn:panic # Warning/Panic level for qtree /vol/vol0/qtree1 # # All those parameters will accept 2 parameters separated by ":". # The first is the warning level (yellow) and the second the panic level (red) # Each of them can be in the 2 form: # a) a percentage like 95% or 57.43% that is checked against the volume percent used space/inode # b) an absolute value like 200 or 200000 that can be followed by a modifier (k,m,g,t) # that is checked against the free space/inode on the volume # You can mix the 2 form in the same check so for example: # /vol/vol0D = 95.50%:5G " Any ideas if there is an easy fix for this? -Roald

Changing default status icon display times

Hi, I am wondering if it is possible to change the amount of time that a status change is held on the "All Non-Green View" page? I have uptime monitored but do not want it to stay at the top of the list for more then one minute before disappearing. Currently they stick around for 5-10 minutes. Thanks! Hello, I'm certainly not the first person to hit the problem of one test with a variable number of graphs. There are a number of threads about this topic. In my case, monitoring of licenses is needed. There are two license servers, one Linux and one Windows, each with an own set of licensed products. Each product has one or more features. Besides monitoring (are all licenses of a product/feature in use?) also the use of licenses over time is needed. In this case we'll need one graph per feature, each graph will show two lines, the total number of licenses and the number of used licenses. The current setup is to send a status message to Xymon, with a list of NCV values. SPLITNCV is used to get each value into a separate .rrd file. After some tests, I have the following questions. A) If a multiplicity is specified in hobbitserver.cfg, GRAPHS="...,license::1,...", the number of lines (and in this case thus also the number of graphs) is determined from the number of files which in this example have a name effectively matching RE "^license,.+\.rrd$". On the other hand, hobbitgraph.cgi seems to count the files which match the RE specified in hobbitgraph.cfg, FNPATTERN. These two counts need not be the same. Is it possible to have the associated FNPATTERN to be used to determine the number of lines to draw? B) The name in an NCV is often a meaningful description of what is being measured. The name becomes part of the filename when using SPLITNCV. The meaningful part of the file name can be extracted by using parentheses in FNPATTERN, for instance "^license,(.+)\.rrd$". That part of the name is available as @RRDPARAM at . However it cannot be substituted in the title of the graph. If in hobbitgraph.cfg one specifies "TITLE license_feature @RRDPARAM@", that is exactly what you get. Using the possibility to have the title generated by a script does not help: it seems to be invoked once for the set of graphs, in stead of once for each graph. Is it a reasonably small change to make a new title for each graph, either by substitution or via a script? C) In hobbitserver.cfg, GRAPHS the multiplicity is specified. The graphs in the trends column are as expected, showing one line per graph. However, the graphs in the test column, license in this case, show four lines per graph. How can one set the multiplicity for the test column? I've setup the two scripts for zonestat and mpstat from here: http://xymonton.trantor.org/doku.php/monitors:zonestat and here: http://xymonton.trantor.org/doku.php/monitors:mpstat I've followed the directions carefully and thoroughly and I get broken links for graphs in the "Trends" section of the host I have it configured on. I searched through the email threads and saw some others had this issue, but no solution seemed to be posted afterwards. Could someone reply with a solution if they know a fix? I'm a bit reserved in contacting the developer directly about this, I like to keep all xymon traffic on the list. My server is running Xymon 4.2.3, the client is currently running at 4.2.0. The script is reporting data, the RRD files have data, the graphs simply show as broken links. Any help is greatly appreciated. Using two servers as one

Hi, We are migrating from big brother to xymon and the project fell on my laps :). in BB they were able to monitor two servers and report them back to BB using a different name..... EX: our manugisitcs is the name of nothing but is monitoring different logs and databases from three different servers. How can that be done on Xymon.. the file structures are completely different and its hard to follow. I just need to be pointed in the right direction. monitoring rules

Hi, I need to document the monitoring rules that are used by Xymon. I can try to parse the hobbit-clients.cfg config file, but I need the information sorted by server. So, is there a way to ask the xymon server 'hey, what monitoring rules do you use for serverX ?' ? Stef

Alert mail TIME tag

Hi ! I've a little problem with alerts mail . The tag "TIME" is not working. This is my alert : GROUP=spooleur-email TIME=W:0800:1800 MAIL=samuel.renard at cg29.fr So in this case, I want xymon to alert me between 08am to 18 pm on the week. But I receive some alerts at 3am and 4am. So, what's wrong ? Xymon Server DNS

Hi All, I imagine this is quite a simple one, and I'm overlooking something...but here goes... I have Xymon 4.2.3 installed on Ubuntu; upgraded from Hobbit and it's been in production for almost a year now (including the time spent as hobbit). As our monitored network has grown, obviously the amount of lookups has increased with it. To try and speed up the tests I setup the Xymon server as a DNS server (slave for our domain, and forwarder onto the ISP DNS servers). Locally it works fine i.e. nslookup queries itself, and I can dig the DC and domain (again queried locally); from a remote machine I can also query the DNS on the Xymon server. However, Xymon reports the DNS service as down. Any ideas? Cheers, Phil
