Msgs - No log data available

Hello Hob-sters, I have been testing my Hobbit server [4.1.2p1] for a number of weeks now. Its working great so far with my test criteria. I am wondering how do I fix the service "msgs" that continues to stay clear on my hobbit server. The status message is reporting the following: "No log data available; The client did not report any logfile data." All other tests are working. I am not certain if my platform is the issue but I am running Debian 3.1 (stable) and I have used the server 4.1.2pl1 .deb package from sourceforge. Do I need the hobbitclient .deb to fix this? Its not a huge issue but it is something I am trying to figure out. Its probably really simple to resolve but I just haven't found it. Sooo... Here's what I have looked at: Looking at the hobbitlaunch.cfg, the hobbitserver.cfg and hobbitclient.sh I can see and follow the scripts with the resulting tests to a file called msg.txt file created in $BBHOME/TMP but its not getting back to the hobbit display that is showing clear. ie: no log data... I have noticed a runclient.sh in the client folder but don't see where its launched or referenced in the cfg files at this point. Would this be the piece I am missing in my configuration? It appears to be producing the data but its not going to the display. So any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance for responding to my questions. PS. Hi, Finally we want migrate from BB to Hobbit. I build hobbit_4.1.1 on Solaris 9 and started it. Only a part of the processes that should run are actually running. What is missing? MySQL graphs

I've been playing with hobbit-4.1.2p1 for a week or so now, and have just spent the last couple of hours banging my head on the desk trying to get bb-mysqlstat to show graphs. Well, getting the reports through wasn't hard, and I could even get an empty link to show on the trends page by (mostly) following this advice: http://www.hswn.dk/hobbiton/2005/06/msg00268.html but I wasn't getting graphs... Anyway, to make a long story short, it looks like the [mysqlslow] and [mysqlthread] entries in hobbitgraph.cfg need to have YAXIS defined. With that in, I get graphs. Looking at hobbitd/hobbitgraph.c, it appears that where YAXIS is defined, it gets copied to newitem->yaxis (line 284), then that gets copied to rrdargs (line 890). I haven't had time to really read the whole file closely, but unless rrdargs is being checked somewhere, I'd guess that rrd_graph can't handle being passed an empty pointer for the yaxis label... This is a great tool, and if I can ever persuade management to switch from Big Brother... :) Ralph Mitchell

Well, among other things, I'd be a bit happier about the client myself if the company name weren't so prominently mis-spelled in the past two releases. I'm assuming that 'UEST' in this header is really supposed to be 'QUEST': Wed Dec 28 12:01:19 UEST 2005. Leads me to wonder a bit myself about the Q/C on the rest of the code. My management (even the director was curious about this) asked for the same thing, do we have access to the source for the Windows client. So you are not alone there. Yeah, I just did some looking around -- and I can't find 'UEST' as a time zone. We've got 'EST' (Eastern Standard Time, North America, UTC - 5) and 'EST' (Eastern Summer Time, Australia at UTC + 11, Eastern Standard Time, Australia, UTC + 10) and 'U' (Uniform time zone, military (US?) UTC - 8). I'm going from this site: http://www.timeanddate.com/library/abbreviations/timezones/ But the field IS the time-zone field on the headers from the *nix systems. I wonder if we'll see 'UEDT' next year, since Indiana has decided to get back into the "change the clock" game. I'd still like to see the source . . . LOL, that is some funny ish...I seriously doubt they'd stick the name of their company in the middle of the date. It's probably referencing they are using Universal EST or something like that. Thanks, Henrik. If he needs another batty (beta) tester, we've got a couple of systems we can slide it onto. We're currently writing additional tests for the bbnt client in perl, FWIW. I know he's got the development tools setup that he wants to use now, and we exchanged some mail just before christmas about the message format between a Win32 client and the Hobbit server, so it is progressing. Timezone should be 'EST' or 'EDT'; never seen one with a 'U' as the first letter. I could be wrong, though -- I've never looked. Anyone working on an NT client?

I'm interested. I currently run the BB/Quest bbnt client, but my NT admins would feel a whole lot better about installing it if we had the source. We're an SAP/R3 shop (AIX on IBM p5 equipment), with your basic NT infrastructure -- MS-Exchange, Active Directory, NT Print Servers, that sort of thing. SAP is now pushing something they call 'portals', using Netweaver on NT to front-end databases (Oracle) on unix (AIX) -- so I have even more NT systems to add to my monitoring.
