Howto display status under differents names ?

Hi, I have some multipurpose hosts (mail, dns, ldap) I want to display under differents pages. >From the same client that reports dnsload, gets polled for dns, ldap, smtp, I want them to be shown as : smtp1 (main hostname) on the "mail servers" page ldap1 on the "ldap servers" page dns1 on the "dns servers" page I tried : 10.1.1.1 smtp1 # prefer smtp ldap dns pop3 pop3s 10.1.1.1 smtp1 # NAME:ldap1 smtp ldap dns pop3 pop3s noconn 10.1.1.1 smtp1 # NAME:dns1 smtp ldap dns pop3 pop3s noconn but no luck, they are shown under their real name, smtp1, on all pages. I was finally able to get hobbit to complete the installation process . . . as you can see, near the end of the makefile, I had to leave out OpenSSl and Openldap for the install to complete. I have a few questions: 1. Is there a way to later include OpenSSl and Openldap to be monitored? 2. Is there detailed instruction of how to configure your webserver so that it knows where the Hobbit webpages can be found? 2 graphing questions

Greetings, I know hobbit is sent vmstat info which has page in/out information - is it possible to make a vmstat2 graph which has page outs and a vmstat3 graph which has page ins (or something like that) and if most of the code is already in place, what do I have to change to make this work?? My next question is when I made a change to my hobbitserver.cfg so that in TEST2RRD cpu=vmstat when I look in trends at load (la) and clock, they have stopped graphing. Why is this happening, and is there anything I can do to fix it?? Thanks, Adam Scheblein

[hobbit] "ports" RRD graph not showing up

I'm running Hobbit 4.2.0 and just added a PORTS section for one of my hosts. It looks like the server is checking the ports correctly, but the RRD graph isn't showing up, even with the TRACK statement. PORT LOCAL=%[.:]4001$ STATE=LISTEN HOST=<hostname> PORT LOCAL=%[.:]5001$ STATE=LISTEN HOST=<hostname> PORT LOCAL=%[.:]5002$ STATE=LISTEN HOST=<hostname> PORT LOCAL=%[.:]4001$ STATE=ESTABLISHED TRACK=4001 HOST=<hostname> PORT LOCAL=%[.:]5001$ STATE=ESTABLISHED TRACK=5001 HOST=<hostname> PORT LOCAL=%[.:]5002$ STATE=ESTABLISHED TRACK=5002 HOST=<hostname> I don't see anything of interest in the client or server logs. Any ideas?

Is the new Hobbit client compatible with the old BigBrother server? Hello, You can try to check this : If this key is not present in the registry, it should means that the Performance Logs & Alerts service is not running. Start it, and then change the key as explained above. Sometimes it is not possible to start the service. See Microsoft Knowledge base art. 223187 : "This issue can occur because logs and alerts cannot be started from the Microsoft Management Console snap-in the Computer Management tool when you start the Performance Logs and Alerts service. The Performance Logs and Alerts service does not start when you start your computer, it starts when a log or alert is started." To resolve this issue, start your logs or alerts from the Microsoft Management Console snap-in Performance Logs and Alerts: 1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools and Performance, and then click Performance Logs and Alerts. 2. From the Microsoft Management Console snap-in Performance Logs and Alerts you can open Counter Logs, Trace Logs, or Alerts. Note that if no logs or alerts are present, right-click in the right-side pane, point to New, and then create new Log/Alert settings. 3. Attack of the purple port

Hi, I just upgraded my hobbit server to 4.2.0 on a RH AS4 box. Everything is working great! *except* (hah, you knew that was coming didn't you) the ports status is purple for my hobbit server, and like the few others on here, my hobbitd goes yellow. UNLIKE others here, I have no messages that I can find anywhere about truncated data. I added MAXMSG_CLIENT=1024 to the hobbitserver.cfg and restarted, but this didn't fix the problem. Perhaps I am not looking in the correct logfile? Maybe there is a setting I am overlooking? If there is more info i can provide, please let me know. I do not have any port checks defined, but on all my other boxes, it doesn't display purple, it just shows gray with the data. Thanks, jeff

Feature Request for nkview

I love the new Critical Systems overview so far! I've been configuring every single system/alert in the config file using vi, since I needed to do roughly 500 servers at once. A few things occurred to me. - It would be helpful to be able to use wildcards in the hostname and service fields. Say you've decided that any CPU alerts are really not that important and can all be PRIO 3. Right now you need to define that for every system separately, since you can only point a server to another to get /all/ of it's PRIO settings. Then you could just have one line somewhere stating: *|cpu||||3|||username 2006-07-27 15:34:05 Maybe have it at the bottom, then the code could first look for a hostname match, and if it doesn't find one, then it'll match the wildcard at the end of the config file. - Have the nkview consider ALL active alerts, and for any that it can't find a PRIO setting for, display it at the bottom in a section labeled UNKNOWN. You could also add it to the Priority drop-down menu to filter them out. I realize this may seem a little redundant, as there's always the bb2.html view, but sometimes people are adding in new servers to the bb-hosts file, but don't realize you also need to configure a PRIO in order for the alerts to show at all on nkview. - Not sure if this has already been addressed: How does nkview handle purple events from dead clients?

Hello again, Thanks for the ideas last week :) i have already setup hobbit ver 4.1.2p2 with success.
