Question about bbcombotest

Hi, I'd like to use bbcombotest to monitor a HA-system which runs in failover-mode, i.e., the processes have to run on one of the servers, but they may not run on both. I've added a rule to bbcombotest.cfg, this works fine and the combined test shows green when one of the servers is okay, as I expected. But, since the processes are not running on both servers, hobbit shows the backup server as "red" because of missing procs, which is a bit confusing. So, I tried to use NOCOLUMN=procs in bb-hosts for the two servers, but then, hobbit stops monitoring the processes completely, and do not show the procs in the combined test, too. Hm, I'm wondering how I can define this?? I'd like hobbit to stop monitoring the processes independly, and only show the combined status as defined in bbcombotest.cfg. ssl configure problem on solaris 8

Not able to see any web pages other than home page of Hobbit of my server

Hi, I had installed hobbit successfully and now i am trying to configure it. I am able to see my homepage and the host's services on it. but when i clicked on any of the link then i got the error as 500 (page can't be displayed). I use apache as web server. [ I am using solaris 5.8 ] My error log looks like this : ld.so.1: hobbitsvc.cgi: fatal: libpcre.so.0: open failed: No such file or directory [Thu Oct 18 05:35:20 2007] [error] [client 10.209.15.1] Premature end of script headers: bb-hostsvc.sh, referer: http://test.hobbit.com:8080/hobbit/ I add necessary library in apache or even i tried - LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/local/lib:/usr/local/rrdtool-1.2.2 3/lib:/usr/local/ssl/lib I also follow this link - http://hswn.dk/hobbiton/2006/08/msg00504.html and after running /usr/local/bin/gdb /home/hobbit/server/bin/hobbitsvc.cgi /tmp/core command I got the following : GNU gdb 5.0 Copyright 2000 Free Software Foundation, Inc. I saw the log from hobbit side and it not throw any abnormal messages. what could be the reason? I configure alert and i am able to get the alert as well but not able to see any page other that hompage of my hobbit monitor.please let me know whether problem is from apache or something else? monitoring large log files--does SIZE setting in clients-local.cfg affect parsing?

I'm trying to monitor a log file that gets pretty big--right now it's 14MB and won't be rotated until this evening, when it'll probably be 35MB. I would like to ensure that the hobbit client catches each and every time it runs across a line that contains WRN or ERR, but it seems like it keeps missing it and I'm wondering if the file just grows too quickly for the config I'm using. The parsing should be pretty easy, since nearly every line that we don't need to worry about contains "MSG:" after the time stamp. If ERR, red. Here's what I've got in my clients-local.cfg for this class of servers: [linux] log:/secret/path/app.log:10240 ignore MSG: Here's the hobbit-clients.cfg entry: LOG /secret/path/app.log WRN color=yellow LOG /secret/path/app.log ERR color=red The logfetch.<hostname>.cfg file gets propagated to the client, so that works correctly. I thought that my configuration would send every line from /secret/path/app.log that wasn't there the last time the hobbit client ran the test and that doesn't contain "MSG:" into the Hobbit server, as long as the total amount of log data doesn't exceet 10240 bytes. Then the hobbit server would parse that incoming data and look for two regex, WRN and ERR, and change color accordingly. However, I can grep through the logs and find instances of lines with ERR that weren't noticed by the Hobbit server. Is the LOG size of 10240 restricting the amount of data that the client processes or is there something else happening that I don't understand? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, TOm

Hello, I want to have a logfile go to /dev/null for a script I've added to hobbit. - The user wants it to run once a minute and I don't want the logfile to fill up. In the clientlaunch file, can I just do a: LOGFILE /dev/null Any concerns with this other than I'll have to change it if I want to see if I'm having any problems with the script running? filtering on bbproxy module

Hi, I have a question re: bbproxy... Currently bbproxy is forwarding "everything" to the other system(s). My question: Is it possible (or planned to implement) to do some filtering on which information (means combination client.test) is forwarded. If you want to "only" send information from specific remote clients you have to jump from system to system and configure a second IP-Address to which he sends his information. Doing so you will not take the advantage of sending combined messages to the central system like the bbproxy module does. Also a lot more effort is needed to configure all effected clients seperately. Thanks -Johann

Turning an SSH Yellow into a Red?

I have a system that, periodically, will hang up in such a way that everything appears normal with the exception of SSH not responding in a happy way. The SSH port is still able to be opened but rather the PID for SSH just isn't alive. This results in a Yellow for SSH. I'd like to, just for this host, turn that Yellow into a Red. Any ideas? drop msgs on windows clients?

Hello, I'm trying to remove the msgs check on the windoze BB 1.08d clients. I've ran the "drop <hostname> msgs" command from the host and it doesn't appear to do the trick. I've done this in the past with custom checks I've added, and it has worked fine. I noticed the NOCOLUMNS flag you can add to bb-hosts for *nix hosts, but unfortunately in this case, it's only the windows servers I care about. Any help? Andy

linux clients not getting local-client configuration

I have several different linux clients (suse redhat 3&4 ES) They are not getting the file,port,msgs or proc data to monitor (all data is white and says: No files checked etc) What can I do? Holly Lund 301-903-1174
