Do you have ISEE installed on these servers? If so your hardware will be automatically monitored and alerts will go out to HP automatically. ISEE comes with your support contract and is easy to set up. If you elect to use ioscan for checking for claimed hardware (using the -f option), then recommend you put in a chunk of timeout logic and send an appropriate error message if a timeout condition occurs. The HPUX ioscan command is not terribly robust (as we discovered after implementing a BB module using it). The ioscan command can hang for the sort of adverse hardware conditions you are trying to check for. This is commonly known as a "feature". - to be spoken aloud as either Eric Idle or John Cleese. To T. Yang: I never bothered putting together a tarball for www.deadcat.net; lack of energy to write up a usage document. It supports table and group files for defining classes of hardware components to be checked for (number of HBAs, tape drives, etc). If you want a tarball to play with or use as a starting point for development, let me know. The module does not have a timeout control - knocking down a hung ioscan is problematic. Will not post tarball here as Mr. Storner would probably hunt me down and toss a holy hand grenade and/or taunt me mercilessly. bbtest-net can't ping when run from hobbitlaunch.cfg

Hi all on a new Hobbit server (running CentOS 5.0 w/ Hobbit 4.2.0 + allinone patch), ping tests always fail when run from hobbitlaunch.cfg, but they do work when run by hand... SSH, HTTP tests work as expected, and this problem occurs whether I use "sudo fping" or "hobbitping". Multiple graphs on a custom test status page?

I have written a custom test with four counters via NCV. Two of those are suitable to share a graph so I got them up and going. Everything works fine so far -- the graph appears on the status page and on trends. How/can I put a second graph on the status page (and trends) for this test? Pointers appreciated. -- Darin Dugan

[hobbit] weird rrd output (using the NCV module)

I'm seeing a weird output for one of my custom RRD graphs, using the NCV module. The collector script on the client is creating an ncv-style output based on the bind 9 "rndc stats" command. These numbers are counter-style numbers, always increasing (until named is restarted). As such, the default DERIVE format of the NCV module is correct. The problem I'm seeing is that the numbers showing up in the RRD graph--as far as I can tell--have nothing at all to do with the actual "rndc stats" values. For instance, the "last" and "current" values of the data was: success : 283 -> 294 (11) referral : 0 -> 0 (0) nxrrset : 149 -> 156 (7) nxdomain : 298 -> 312 (14) recursion : 247 -> 254 (7) failure : 400 -> 400 (0) duplicate : 0 -> 0 (0) dropped : 0 -> 0 (0) The number in () above is the actual difference between the numbers, and the values I'm expecting to show up in the RRD graph. But the actual values that are showing up for the above example (for the "(cur)" value) are, respectively: 34.0m 0.0 20.8m 41.6m 25.6m 0.0 0.0 0.0 These numbers don't correspond to any value, anywhere. Any idea where these numbers are coming from? I can post the relevant section of the hobbitgraph.cfg file if that would help. I'm not sure if this is an RRD issue or Hobbit issue, but when I use rrdtool to dump the actual RRD file, the value for "<last_ds>" is the correct value.

How to graph RRD data from DEVMON

I would like to create graphs from the devmon output of cisco switches. For this, I found a document "How to if_* grpah from Devmon to Hobbit". [hobbit] on-going snapshot issue

Since my other issues with 4.2.0/allinone did not get any respones, please let me know if there is going to be a way to turn OFF descriptions in bb2.html in the snapshot? Time is short and it is very tedious to compile a new snapshot daily hoping it is changed. I did look through the documentation, the first time it appeared, and I couldn't find anything Again here is what it looks like: Host1 (My host type:This host is a standalone server for the xyz group) conn cpu disk files info memory msgs oradb orasys procs prtdiag trends vxvm Host2 conn cpu disk files info memory ... trends Host3 conn cpu disk files info memory ... trends Host4 (Part of the cluster foo, contact support for help 123-5555) conn cpu disk files info memory msgs oradb orasys procs ... trends We use our descriptions in the info column and they are needed, so I cannot just remove all descriptions and comments from bb-hosts. Any help would be appreciated. Do people like the descriptions on bb2.html or is just my config that has done this with the snapshot? If it wasn't for 'Whoops ! bb failed to send message - timeout', stale alerts, and hung memory segments and semaphores I would just wait until the first pre-release or full release. Pease help. Upgrading Hobbit Server to 4.2.0 and old bb/hobbit clients

If I upgrade my server to 4.2.0 from 4.1.2p1, will I have to upgrade my current bb clients (bb16e1) and the hobbit clients? Will the bb clients and hobbit clients still work with this version of the server? Sorry, I'm new to Hobbit and have had to take on the responsibility. Thank you.
