In the file hobbit-clients.cfg there is the following configuration that does not seem to work as I expected. CLASS=Linux PROC cron PROC ntpd FILE /var/log/messages SIZE>0 MTIME<604800 yellow DEFAULT # These are the built-in defaults. UP 10 # LOAD 5.0 10.0 EXHOST=snaefell.rhi.hi.is CLOCK 5 The settings for the CLASS=Linux section used to be under default, until I introduced a bbwin client into the set. Then I introduced CLASS=Linux, hoping that it would do what I expected it to do. I need to be able to set some default settings for hobbit clients running on a Linux host and some other default settings for BBWin clients. Hi again, The various replies set me thinking again. The non-global zone is indeed a whole root zone. However, the users home directory filesystem /export is a loopback filesystem from the global zone, so that users in all the zones share a common home directory structure. I was building the hobbit kit in a subdirectory of /export/home/user1. I had tried running the config/make sequence as both user1 and as root, both failed as previously described. As a result of the replies, I tried unpacking the kit in the root filesystem, in /usr/local. I ran the configure/make sequence as root (I know, it's not best practice, but I was getting desperate) and it worked! I don't fully understand why - I thought hte root filesystem in a non-global zone was effectively a loopback filesystem similar to my /export filesystem, but that's the only difference I can see between this and my previous efforts. I now have a problem with the make install, but that looks like a simple library path issue, so back to trawling the mail archives for me :-) Thanks again for all the contributions, Cheers, John

It is designed so > that they can be. It is not a ghost problem. I was expecting that the information will be send to both BBDISPLAY servers and that they will decide what to do with the information. But that's not the case, it talks to the first BBDISPLAY server and only if that server is accepting the information it is also send to the second BBDISPLAY server. Stef

Actually you can also use BBGHOSTS in hobbitserver.cfg, which is more convenient I think. The man page unhelpfully doesn't list what BBGHOSTS of 0 does, but the cfg file does, so... you want a BBGHOSTS of 0. Or make sure the bb-hosts file are the same on both servers... need help in monitoring edmz client

I believe there is some confusion as to what you are doing. Option 1 >From my understanding Daniel was suggesting you setup a ssh tunnel from your hobbit server to your dmz host. Your client should work without any further changes i.e. your BBDISPLAY setting should be the real IP of your hobbit server (not the loopback you currently have). You will then have to ensure the tunnel stays up. Option 2. Use msgcache, which is what I think you originally asked about. On your dmz client, edit clientlaunch.cfg Ensure in the section for [msgcache] your have a line with ENABLED hobbitclient.cfg on your dmz client should have BBDISP="127.0.0.1" This makes the client report results to itself. On your hobbit server ensure hobbitlaunch.cfg has this: [hobbitfetch] ENABLED ... Ensure your bb-hosts on hobbit server has the pulldata tag added for your dmz client. e.g. 0.0.0.0 dmz-client # pulldata Restart your hobbit server and wait 10+ minutes. There are pros and cons with both options. Craig

However, in this instance I believe all the packages from the global zone were successfully installed in the non-global zone, apart from two relating to zone management (which aren't meant to install in non-global zones because they aren't appropriate). Here is some of the information from the ~/hobbit-4.2.0/bbnet/c-ares/config.log file as suggested by Martin Ward. It looks to me like a repeat of the error messages posted earlier, and I can't see any more useful clues, but perhaps that's just me: configure:2272: gcc --version </dev/null >&5 job-working-directory: error retrieving current directory: getcwd: cannot access parent directories: No such file or directory gcc (GCC) 3.4.6 and so it repeats. Hi, I have been trying to build a Hobbit server in a Solaris 10 non-global zone (or container), having downloaded the 4.2.0 source kit. I believe I have met all the prerequisites, but when I come to the "make" stage, the build fails. I spent some time checking what I had done and searching for known problems, so apologies if the information is already out there and I've missed it. I repeated the steps I went through on another similar server, but this time built the kit in the global zone, and it built OK. Has anyone sucessfully built a hobbit server in a Solaris 10 non-global zone? Details: OS: Solaris 10 1/06 Hobbit 4.2.0 Hardware: SunFire V240 (Sparc). The configure goes OK. Ya, mon! Hobbitmon is acceptable. H.O.B.B.I.T. looks like part of a (bad) '60s spy thriller title ("The man from H.O.B.B.I.T.", with Bono playing the part of Henrik Stoerner). This should probably be considered a short-term fix. As others have said, it may be time to pick up a more "corporate" name. I'm brain-dead right now, and all I'm coming up with is 'memonsys' (Massively Extendable MONitoring SYStem). ignore log lines problem

Hey, In my hobbit (4.3.0-0.20080403) setup I am receiving messages from a windows server via BBWin(0.12). My problem is that I keep getting all the "eventlog security" success lines, which is a massive amount of lines, leading to truncated messages in hobbitd. I have raised the size of MAXMSG_STATUS and MAXMSG_CLIENT, but I would like to get the ignore statement to work. I have tried to avoid getting the "success lines" with this setup: The bbwin configuration is set to central: <setting name="mode" value="central" /> <setting name="configclass" value="win32" /> The hobbit-clients.cfg have: CLASS=win32 LOG %.* "%error - .*" COLOR=yellow LOG %.* "%failure - .*" COLOR=yellow client-local.cfg have: [win32] log:security:10240 ignore success I can see that this info is delivered to the BBWin client in the file [bbwindir]\tmp\clientlocal.cfg, with “unix carriage return” at each line. No errors in the BBWin.log. Is it a bug or am I missing some configuration? other subjections? Regards Christian
